I personally like Angel more then Buffy.
I felt that the characters on Angel went though more character development then the characters on Buffy did.
There were times were the characters on Buffy were acting too childish.
And at times the show felt like it went too over the top with it's metaphors Willow's magic problem.
But they are both very awesome TV shows, and are better then the trash that's on TV now.

Obviously I love both shows but I would have to say Buffy wins out overall.
I grew up watching Buffy since I was 9 so I watched the characters grow up whereas Angel presents with a cast of adults who I found less able to relate to and understand. Another major problem I have with Ats is that I don't actually like the character of Angel. I would also have to say initially Angel seemed like it was given the reject characters of Buffy namely Cordelia and Wesley. In contrast I immediately liked all of the core scooby gang.
I also find Buffy to be the more quotable show with each character being thoroughly quirky and hilarious in their own way as opposed to Angels characters.
However I did enjoy the darker tone of Angel that I often felt Buffy lacked until season 6 (which also happens to be my favourite season of Buffy).
A bad point of Buffy = no Illyria, such as shame she was only in less than half a season.
Anyway this has turned into a huge rambling mess of a post now so sorry but Buffy ftw!

Angel was overall the better show.
