Yeah. Not gonna survive with numbers like this. At this point we should be relieved that Fox has committed to showing the 13 episodes.
Shows like this can't survive on the networks anymore. It needs to be on cable. I wonder if there's any chance Fox would release the rights.

It should if it were contemplating cancellation. Otherwise it would really not be fair to Joss. No idea what the laws are or what the contract says.

Comparing last nights episode to Episode 4 (which drew 3.5 million viewers), the show did well. Overall, it did ok. But, considering it went from 3.5 to 4.4, I have faith it'll raise next week

Last night's episode had to improve on last week's, to show it could build on the momentum it got. HAD to.
It didn't. It lost viewers... a lot of viewers, in fact, and it's now barely improving on T:SCC.
It was on against basketball this week, it was on against the BSG finale last week, it was on against the Watchmen movie premiere the week before that... all this is telling me is there's always something most people would rather be doing than watching Dollhouse.
I love the show, and this breaks my heart. I hope they didn't do episode 13 as a cliffhanger.
Joss needs to not even consider doing network TV ever again. It's just not the right place for him anymore, and never will be.

has anyone else noticed that TSCC had 11 million viewers average for its 1st season and then was put into the deathslot with dollhouse and has 4.1 mill. average? FOX has to see this pattern... i'm not saying that if they put it on wednesdays at 8 will give it 11 million viewers, but don't put it into the deathslot...
i mean we won't know if it will get picked up until mid-april/early may... but if it were doing as well as we all had hoped, it would've gotten picked up by now.

I agree. Damn it, this makes me mad. Why don't you just put something stupid reality show in the death slot that will actually still get views. If Dollhouse wasn't on Friday then I bet it would be at least getting 10 million viewers an episode.

or at least put 24 or House or American Idol before... i hate to admit it, but that's a big reason Bones did so well initially.

God, this is so stupid! Fox is so stupid. Fox, stop being stupid and put Dollhouse on a better night! This is upsetting.

The second season of Terminator started on Mondays and the ratings were bad. FOX could have easily cancelled the show, but they gave it another chance and moved it to Friday along with Dollhouse. I love Terminator to death, but FOX gave it every chance. Dollhouse hasn't been so lucky. With these ratings I don't see FOX moving it and I honestly don't think it'll help, seems too late. If Dollhouse was on Mondays like originally planned, a night with heavy competition, it could have been cancelled already. We just have to hope it improves, it's not over yet. FOX announces their schedule five days after the finale. I'm not giving up hope until then. It's a new show and still has six episodes to improve. Shows like this can't survive on the networks anymore. It needs to be on cable. I wonder if there's any chance Fox would release the rights. I really hope FOX moves it to FX or something, it'd seem like a good fit. And it's a FOX owned channel so I don't see how it could be a big problem. If FOX releases the rights, could it even be picked up by another network since Eliza has a six-figure contract with them?

Sounds to me like the prized 18-49 male demographic was watching basketball instead. So the ratings aren't much of a shock to me when I see the .3 drop in demo. Does it ever matter how many women ever watch shows? Screw 'em and their demos.
Next week'll probably improve a tad, but I'm not looking for much because Fox has pretty much screwed the show over from the start. Surprise! And if it just continues to drop, still won't be surprised because two or three better-than-mediocre eps out of 7 does not make a hit.
I don't even find it surprising or appalling anymore, how TV shows go all awry and WTF because of network meddling. When suits start interfering, you start to get mountains of brain-melting, worthless "reality" instead of quality story telling.

The thing is... we blame Fox for imposing those first five episodes on the show and supposedly boring away a large chunk of the potential audience... but those episodes were absolutely necessary to set up who these people are, what's going on, and why we should care.
Episodes 6 and 7 were only as cool as they were because of the setup in episodes 1-5.
I think 90% of the show's troubles can be traced back to all the negative buzz before the first episode came out. When a show gets widely known as a "troubled" production before it even premieres, it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. The critics spend all their time looking for reasons why the show is having problems, and that's all they report. And the audience, having nothing else to go on, don't bother investing their time in a show that everyone seems to agree is doomed from day 1.

AC has a point there. We were all waiting for the show to fail when it started, thats the kind of bad buzz that'll cause a show to eat itself. And truth is, the show couldn't have started with episode 6 or 7. Those first 5 introductory episodes tried to draw in viewers while building the characters. We're getting a lot of pay-off now, but the numbers just aren't there.

Episodes 6 and 7 were only as cool as they were because of the setup in episodes 1-5. Really? I don't even remember the first three eps. To me, those were STINKY bad. That's about all I remember. And the only reason I know eps starting with 4 were marginally better is because I remember how awful the first 3 eps were. I don't like the last few eps because of the setup they got in the craptastic crapfest that kicked off the series, I like them because they were interesting, fun, dramatic in their own right. But I think it's still got a long way to go. If you like the recent eps because of the setup in the first few eps, more power to ya.

I fully enjoyed the first 3 eps myself. I've liked them all so far, some more than others. I'd rather watch the worst Dollhouse ep on a 12-hour loop than a single minute of the Wife Swap/Super Nanny reality show cat-vomit that's on the other channels on Friday nights.

If you read the original script, you'll find that the first 5 episodes were mostly scraps of the originally shot pilot. I thought FOX decided to reshoot the first half of the season, spreading out the exposition... in effect making it hard to follow for any undevoted viewer. Had FOX aired Joss' original pilot, we'd have had all that exposition cleared up at the start and possibly a larger following. We'll never know now

They should just advertise their show more during Fringe and American Idol. They seemed to have stopped after the show premiered meanwhile I see promos for Amiercan Idol, Bones, Terminator, and everything else at least twice a night on FOX.

They seemed to have stopped after the show premiered meanwhile I see promos for Amiercan Idol, Bones, Terminator, and everything else at least twice a night on FOX. I definitely think this could be one of the problems. After The Target aired, promos basically stopped. I've seen one quick 15 second one since then. I always get annoyed while watching a FOX show and seeing a promo for the same show two-three times. Basically everyone knows when American Idol is on, but I swear there is a promo during every 24 commercial break. Seems like FOX doesn't even care anymore.
