How will Prison Break help? New and, most likely, larger audience that might stick around after and give Dollhouse a try.

I think FOX is actually going to renew the show. Based on the DVD and the fact that both shows (Terminator, Prison Break) came from other nights with large audiences, moved to Friday, and their viewers dropped (well, only for Terminator but you know).
Dollhouse, on the other hand, OPENED on Friday's (with FOX expecting bad ratings...and they haven't been falling in the last 3 episodes) and this show never had a chance on another night. That's where I stand right now. Also, neither Prison Break nor Terminator has a cult following like Whedon.

I'm a little sad that there won't be a new Dollhouse ep this Friday. But I'll try and convince a mess load of people to watch the show! They have time to catch up until the new ep comes on in 2 weeks!
In the mean time...rewatching eps on hulu and praying that this show gets renewed!

Watch eps on FOX.com, not Hulu!
Hulu has a better interface but FOX.com actually counts toward ratings!

Why don't Hulu's views count?

FOX and NBC are equity partners with Hulu, in that both FOX and NBC make money off Hulu, but Hulu doesn't disclose the financial agreements with content providers. It's never said explicitly that watching your favorite shows on Hulu will help those shows' ratings and revenue.
I'm inclined to believe under the circumstances in their About page that there is no guarantee that FOX will even look at the play counts for Dollhouse on Hulu. I am more confident that FOX will review play counts on their own site where they receive direct ad monies, as opposed to an "equity partnership" with revenue profited from Hulu.com.
It's perfectly reasonable to think they will look at both, but then again, they could look at neither. The revenue accumulated from online viewings could be minimal compared to what advertisers pay to play on first screening. Given a choice? I would watch on FOX.com, not Hulu.com.

It's never said explicitly that watching your favorite shows on Hulu will help those shows' ratings and revenue. It may not be explicitly said, but it makes absolutely no business sense for FOX not to "count" what views happen over at Hulu. News Corp (the owners of Fox Broadcasting) co-own Hulu, and they are in that for a profit, and they are only going to air shows on Hulu that earn them that profit. The ad revenue is only generated if people see the ads. So of course Hulu is going to report back to its owners what its best viewerships are--it would be absolutely insane not to, because that's how they know what is earning them money! Unless you have explicit proof that they don't pay attention to Hulu's viewership--which again, makes no sense whatsoever under the circumstances--I would stop insisting on that. Especially since you're pushing an alternative that requires extra plug-in downloading, and some of us don't want extra plug-ins and the like running in the background while we're on the 'net.

It all depends whether FOX profits off Dollhouse viewings on Hulu offset the lack of ad revenue from on-air advertisement.
I just want the show renewed. If watching on FOX.com in anyway could help Dollhouse, I'll urge it.

Well Prison Break completely FAILED last night, doing worse than Dollhouse has ever done: Click here.[/u][/url] It's hard to tell if this will help or hurt Dollhouse. Prison Break doing bad could maybe hopefully have FOX just say "screw it" and give Dollhouse a second season. But we also wanted semi-higher ratings to help Dollhouse gain more viewers, which could still happen because it's a new audience. Next week should be interesting.

Well Prison Break is already cancelled, these are its final episodes. I really hope Dollhouse beats it next week, maybe show FOX that it has its own audience regardless of the lead-in. This could be good news for Terminator too, I think they maintained a 1.3 on Friday night, only going under 1.2 once.

If they were airing the Prison Break double in hopes that some of the orphaned Dollhouse viewers would be there to help pick up the slack, it was misguided. I just watched a movie on my DVR instead. Also, the break, and PB double ep instead of a new DH, probably won't do anything to bolster viewer ratings anyway. As it is, the only TV viewing numbers that count are the Nielsens, and there's only (at least) 12,000 of them (out of, what, 200 million TV viewers?), so it's not even worth it to waste my time watching TV anyway. I watch the show on Hulu on Saturday afternoon, though.
Hulu is owned by NBC and Fox, btw.

That's really strange to me. I'd wait for TVbythenumbers to have it posted because it really comes down to the demo.

NO! I hate life! After seeing the first 10 episodes and the preview for next... DOLLHOUSE MUST GO ON! I can't deal with only having an hour and forty minutes left of it!
