This episode was really great but I can't watch it a second time because it virtually acted out a fear of mine. I am very close to my mother and I also happen to be a very paranoid person so I have many times imagined what it would be like if something happened to her and well, that same thing happened. Apparently whoever wrote it was very well aware of what it was like to lose someone close to you because it was almost surreally, real if that makes sense. Like more real than most things you see on television, and that says a lot for Buffy and Angel because those shows have a way of doing that.
My mother's favorite part was Anya's speech I think.

its most definately the anya speech, cos we've all been there . i also 100% agree with "we're not supposed to move the body!". I hadnt realised until this years rewatch how AMAZING SMG is in the first 10 mins. . . im a lil slow lol. willow is heartbreaking too, wanting to be supportive but worrying she might seem disrespectful with what she wears.. cute and heartbreaking at the same time. aww its making me sad thinking of it now LOL.

SMG is amazing in pretty much the whole episode. I'd hate to think what the show would have been like with a lesser cast.

I totally agree. The acting on this show and Angel is amazing and is what makes everything so moving and makes us able to love the characters so much.

The worst part for me is definitely the end of the episode before/beginning of the episode when Buffy comes home, is talking to her mom, then sees her lying on the couch and is confused while the audience is realizing what happened. When she says 'Mommy', that's the worst part for me, cause that's when you see that she realizes what happened.

For me the saddest part is the brief moment where Buffy imagines that her mom was saved/revived and then she comes back to reality and her mom is dead. That was pretty gut-wrenching for me.

Buffy telling Dawn, her breaking down being directly contrasted with her happiness in class beforehand really got me

Oh so many parts. Anya's speech is probably the saddest part, it explains death from a point of view of someone who's never had to deal with it before and doesn't understand what it is, but also points out how no-one understands it. The bit where Buffy says 'Mom? Mom?...Mommy?' I find that really sad, also the bit where she's on the phone and the woman on the ther end says 'the body's cold?' and Buffy says 'no...My mom' because she's refusing to believe her mom could be dead. And then when she tells Giles not to touch the body, then suddenly realises that in saying 'the body' rather than 'mom' she's acceptping that she really is dead. It is such a sad epsiode, I cry solidly through the whole thing... very well done though.
EDIT: I also just remembered the bit where ANya says 'I wish Joyce didn't die'. Not because that bit was particularly sad, but because it shows how much it means to Anya, seeing as she never uses to 'W' word.
