Didn't they mention something about that in shells (Angel season 5) ? That she was on the Astral plane? Yeah something like that. "Astral Projection" and the "Himalayas". It'll be cool to see if that's explored. I wonder if the fact that Retreat takes place in the Himalaya region is just a coincidence.

Oz did mention in season 4 that he'd been sent to monks and when he couldn't hold his wolfness in it would make sense that he would go back so probably not.

I want to know what the "major transformational change for Buffy" will be that Scott mentioned in the podcast. Lycanthropy?

I want to know what the "major transformational change for Buffy" will be that Scott mentioned in the podcast. Lycanthropy? God... I hope that's not what he meant... I hate to say it, but... it may be the loss of her Slayerhood. Permanently. Buffy may decide the best thing to do is depower all the Slayers -- including herself -- using the Scythe. This would turn out to be a disastrous decision (although made for good intentions) that would be seen as the closest and most unexpected betrayal. The Slayers then decide to go on being Slayers... just without their magical powers... and end up winning. (That's the only way I can imagine Joss undoing the Slayer spell... if he replaces it with an even more empowering story.)

But like you said earlier - any set up now has to run almost a year... seems a little early for that drastic a step.

^^ An entire year, but only two arcs. That's like two episodes.

Well, if this is anything to go by, the shake-up we've been warned about is probably going to be quite big, since Brad Meltzer is apparently writing the climax:
Trusting the climax to a complete noob to the Buffyverse writing team... that's a pretty big gamble, though.

I doubt he knows nothing of the story. I mean I'm sure when the writers were specifically asked to come on they had some prior Knowledge. Heck they might have even been fans like us.

Not saying that he knows nothing of the 'verse, just that trusting such a big part to someone who hasn't proven that he can write these characters yet is a big gamble. #24 was written by a noob, and was an utter disaster. "NFFY" was written by a noob, and remains one of the strongest arcs to date. Hence, the usage of "gamble", and not "disaster" on my part. I've read some of Meltzer's works... he can do suspense, but ultimately, the two books I read felt like Dan Brown Lite, which isn't the best compliment I can think of.

I've read his stuff too. This arc while assuredly seperate the lightweight writers of the verse from the not so light weights lol

Considering the importance of the arc, I'm sure Joss will be keeping a close eye on it, and may in fact have plotted most of it himself. The same probably can't be said of Predators & Prey, which seems to me like it was planned as a run of Joss-lite issues while he was busy with Dollhouse and Cabin in the Woods.

Well, the plot at large is supervised by Joss, since the season is his vision. He did say that there was probably a little too much leeway on his part at one point, and I think it's safe to assume that he meant "Predators and Prey" in general. Given that this is supposed to be the climax, I'm sure he's keeping tabs on it, and from it sounds like, Joss did co-plot the entire arc with Meltzer. However, it's not just plot I'm worried about, but Meltzer's ability to capture "voices". But since I'm only peripherally acquainted with his work, and have not seen any of his work within the 'verse yet, I'll sit pretty and wait for it. Just hoping to be pleasantly surprised.

Apparently Joss and Brad are friends, and presumably Joss specifically invited him to write the arc. I have to trust that means Joss knows this arc in particular will be suited to his strengths.
Or maybe Brad won the assignment off him in a poker game.

Hm... reading over Jeanty's session 4 Q&A makes me think that Twilight will be revealed in this issue:
He lumps the Reveal of Twilight and "what happens at the end of Issue 30" (my guess very Willow heavy) in with the same thought. My thought is they happen in the same issue, this one.
Also, Allie seems to think Fans won't be too pleased with the end of Retreat:

Yeah, that quote is making me wicked excited/scared for this issue. I've been looking forward too a nice, good, huge, healthly Season 8-related debate.

Comics Continuum posted the solicit. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Written by Jane Espenson, penciled by Georges Jeanty, inked by Andy Owens, colored by Michelle Madsen, covers by Jeanty and Adam Hughes.
"Retreat," part 5 of 5. The war between Twilight's minions and Buffy's army rages in the Tibetan mountains. Bereft of their magic, the girls‹Wiccans and Slayers‹face an epic battle in which they have no hope of victory. Buffy has already done the retreat thing once, plus also put herself and her army into hiding . . . What can she do now that there is no magic to help them escape from another losing battle?
40 pages, $2.99, in stores on Nov. 4."------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Wow. Adam Hughes cover is absolutely breathtaking. Jeanty's is great too!

I mean, this cover is nice and all, but I can't help but miss Jo Chen. Her covers are always incredible. Sigh. It'll be nice to have her back. That said, I do like these last two covers more than the ones for Wolves At The Gate. The Jeanty cover is nice as well, one of his better ones I think. And hey, I've been reading this forum for awhile, and this may or may not be my first post, I'm not sure. Anyway...hi.

Yeah, great covers.
I really, really want to know what the Slayers did to suppress their magic in such a way that they can't get it back when they need it... and why they would do such a thing.

Ooh, looks like they do suppress their magic. Interesting.
What will our heroes ever do now? *snicker*
