Good news! Fox will air all 13 episodes! They definitely don't sound happy about the numbers though. Very glad there will be some closure with the last episode.

Airing these 13 was actually my best-case scenario. Even a back 9 sounds like crazy talk at this point.
I'm just glad Joss will have the opportunity to tell his story. If people still don't watch... hey, not every good work of art is popular. Mozart was buried in a pauper's grave.
Fox is definitely building some goodwill with the fans here, though. Compared to the crew in charge when "Firefly" was on, this is like Bizarro Fox.

I agree, but there will definitely still be insane outrage towards them when it's probably cancelled after the 13. FOX deserves loads of thanks from us. They could've cancelled the show after Season 1, but chose to renew it. They can easily take it off the air right now, but chose to air the remaining. I don't agree with some of the things they've been doing, like the lack of promotion, and especially having Joss change the entire tone from the start, but they are giving us more episodes that they could've taken away twice. Mad props.

26 episodes is a heck of a lot better than 13, so there's a lot to be thankful for. It will suck seeing Joss's third show get canceled though.

Cancellation after this season ends isn't a guarantee right?

Cancellation after this season ends isn't a guarantee right? If the ratings get back to where they were last year or even improve further, then I bet we'd see a Season 3. It will take a lot to do that though.

It will take a lot to do that though. American TV needs to think outside of the box a bit. I think it might be worth producing say 6-8 episodes a year. Look at Torchwood-Series 3 was only 5 episodes, which was a disappointment for some, but still leaves open the opportunity for Series 4.

American TV needs to think outside of the box a bit. I think it might be worth producing say 6-8 episodes a year. Look at Torchwood-Series 3 was only 5 episodes, which was a disappointment for some, but still leaves open the opportunity for Series 4. They do this on HBO/Showtime - Six Feet Under, True Blood, Entourage, etc. Those networks play the shows in cycles of somewhere between 6-12 episodes per season; every time a show finishes a season, a new show (or returning show) is available to start up again, creating a constant cascade of content. I think that's sort of beside the point, though - the real problem right now is that Nielsen ratings are still the X-factor in determining a show's success, despite DVR/TiVo/Hulu/TheWB becoming increasingly widespread in the viewing of content. Not everybody who watches the show is on a Nielsen box; we're just lucky that FOX is willing to take into account these other viewing numbers (over a greater period of time) in addition to the Nielsen. I like CBS's current approach to Fridays - they know the shows on that day won't be getting groundbreaking Nielsen numbers, so they lowered their projections for that night to allow the shows airing on Friday more wiggle room for negotiating seasons. It's been particularly beneficial to Numb3rs because Numb3rs has been Fridays 10/9c since it started airing in January 2005 (to fairly good Nielsen numbers, by the way), and now CBS has Medium and a surefire way to keep Medium on the air for as long as it wants to stay on the air. But my ranting aside, I'm still streaming Dollhouse episodes on Hulu and tagging all my tweets with #dollhouse #recorddollhouse and #savedollhouse

at least they aren't going to cancel it mid season like poor tru calling. i really feel that the series would be better off being bought by scifi. i think they would advirtise it more and let it live up to it's full potential.

At this point, I'm grateful for what FOX has done for the show, but disappointed in what it hasn't done for the show. I'd like to see it on a different network as well, like Scyfy or the CW.
When does Eliza's contract end?

I'm glad we'll get all 13 episodes, but I'm still pissed at Fox. They didn't promote it at all really. They kept it in the worst time slot, so of course the ratings are going to be shit. If they cancel Dollhouse I will never watch anything on Fox again. They fuck up too many great shows.

They fuck up too many great shows. don't think i'd go that far - but it is weird how many people are suddenly 'YAY FOX, YAY NEW EXECUTIVES' all over again like it's the party line, y'know? Not all the flaws in Dollhouse are the fault of the powers that be, Season One had weakness that can be pinned on the writers as much as the network - but the overall treatment, just the same as ever. I'm glad we get the full 13 but we could have had a lot more. As it is we're going to get an accelerated closing of the story. And that means less time to build Alexis and Summer as they intended. Just as network prevarication meant the loss of Amy Acker - which is now... well, she's just gone i guess. I know people will be bitchin'; 'Ungrateful fans' yadda yadda but when you step back and look at the thing objectively Dollhouse's treatment was just off. They dropped the ball. It won't happen - but sure, i'd love to see it on another network, i'd love to see more.

Hey, can we put out a plea on the general discussion boards since many think that the Whedon group has abandoned the Dollhouse?

Through some modest googling myself, it seems she had a two year contract to develop/star in a new show.
Perhaps, if that proves to be true, after this half season airs it could be transferred to a different network. I can only hope.
