I really dont think that there should be anymore gay prominent gay couples in the universe unless Willow gets another lover or something like that. The show is about female empowerment and I think that the sexuality aspect has been explored between Willows discovering she is gay (bisexual!) and Buffy experimenting with a woman.
I understand that the show has a strong gay following but I really dont think that adding any more gays or lesbians would just be overdoing it.

At this point, I'm more interested in seeing some development of the relationships between the Scoobies. Feels like it's been a while since they sat down and talked - or not-talked - to each other for reasons other than exposition.

nicholas- you see, that's the problem w/gay characters in just about anything nowadays (movies, tv, comics)-they can't just be there and play a part w/o them being defined as the 'gay' character. Why cant a gay character just come in and have a story and have the fact that they're gay be @ least mostly irrelevant to their story? This rarely happens, if ever.

I can understand where you're coming from Rufio. I guess for some people realizing they're gay is a huge deal and it can take a long time to figure out, it can be going through their head so often that maybe figuring out their sexuality becomes a huge part of their life. But really that is only one aspect of them. I just thought that it would be cool to see some gay guys in the Buffyverse since Whedon does such a good job of portraying different kinds of characters. Yes Buffy is about female impowerment, but they're are some guys out there who could use some empowering images themselves. There just aren't that many gay, male characters out there that break outside the steoreotypes of what being a gay guy is. Like the comics are already hinting that Andrew is gay but was that spice world top necessary? Like ok he listens to them but the top common. Not that being flamboyant is wrong I am flamboyant in my own ways, I just think we need some variety with male gay characters and maybe these comics could do a good job of that.

Thanks! Just to clarify, im not labeling them as the gay character but one of the things that Joss and his team attempt to do is do express certain themes and such. I think that the sexuality/gay theme was expressed with Willow perfectly and the experimentation theme had been expressed fine with Buffy. All im saying is that I don't feel that adding a gay male to the series would really be necessary because that theme had already been expressed. It just feels like there is a lot of prominent gay people in the Buffy-verse at this point, but not too much. Adding another just for the sake of it, wouldn't be wise in my opinion.

You seem to be missing my point totally. You're saying that introducing another gay character would be unnecessary? - Why?? A gay character could come into the picture in a totally non-sex-related capactity. It's like saying a bird can come into the story-only if it flies- a bird can do other things besides fly. Don't ask why I'm using a bird analogy but i'm just trying to make my point.
NOT adding another gay character just because he's gay is just as stupid as ADDING a gay character just because he's gay...lol, read that a couple times-it actually does make sense. i think.

Well I think what I mean is that we have a lot of gay relationships in the Buffy-verse. I think we need another straight relationship.

I think the addition of gay male characters would be fine as long as Joss did it (if it were done right). Obviously it wouldn't make sense to introduce a gay male into the story "just for the sake of doing it" and I think that goes for everything: it shouldn't be done just because it can be done. Just because Buffy is "about female empowerment" doesn't mean that's all it's about. Sure, it's a major theme, but there are other themes as well so I don't think that "oh, well it's about female empowerment" is a good argument against introducing gay male characters. That's like saying "it's about female empowerment...so there shouldn't be any main male characters." Uh, what? There's no reason to add any more relationships, no matter the sexual nature of them, just for the hell of it. So why does the story "need another straight relationship"? As long as it can be done tastefully, with depth and reason, I don't see a problem with introducing (or adding more, if you count Andrew like I do) gay guys into the 'verse. I trust Joss with whatever he chooses to do and am happy whether or not he decides to include more gay characters or not because I know he's definitely not one to discriminate.

See, I dont really think I would mind, but the entire time watching Season 7, I really felt that Andrew and xander were going to hook up much like the way Buffy and Satsu did.

Problem is, this whole thread and everyone behind adding a gay character is just as guilty of this as anyone saying there's enough gayness. It isn't just when someone says "they shouldn't add another gay character because...", it's just as much when the other person first said "there should be more gay characters!". I agree with your view, however I'm not sure how this will ever change. If we must do the numbers, there's what? 3 major male characters in Season 8 now? So one out of three is gay. That's a pretty fair percentage.

The only reason we've seen a lot of lesbians is because Willow, one of the main characters, is a lesbian. To explore that plot, there has to be other lesbians for her to have romantic relationships with. If Xander was the one Joss decided would be gay there would be a whole bunch of gay guys and nary a lesbian to be seen.

If Andrew wanted to jump anyones bones it was definitely Spike! And I think Spike would sooner snap andrews neck than kiss him.

Angel and Spike together sounds pretty steamy to me too....
But please no addition of gay characters in the Buffyverse or else BTVS is going to become "Buffy the show where every character turns gay at some point". That would be lame. Buffy's night with Satsu was already farfetched even though I understand now that she could be experimenting but it really seems like Buffy is way too much into guys for turning completely gay. Seriously. She's just open to new things and possibilities but that's all.
