Has anyone else noticed that with this new wave of superhero adaptations....there are none with any strong females featured?
I know they are very few female super heroines in general but still. It's not like someone couldn't make one up!
The last big comic inspired film with a female lead (that I remember) was catwoman, and we all know how awful that was.
I'm also starting to take notice of the people directing and writing this films and they all pretty much such at creating a strong 3 dimensional female character! I'm hoping with The Avengers that a woman is given a chance to shine.
Bad casting-->bad female direction-->bad acting--->forgettable role in my book.
Any female comic characters you wish would get their due?

I know they're making a Wonder Woman movie if that makes you feel better.
And I know these movies are horrible. But the Fantastic Four have a female hero in them.

I had always hoped for Elektra to get her due on screen. Alas, we know how that turned out. (The only reason I can even begin to forgive Jen Garner is due to five incredible years in Alias)
There's definitely a huge huge lack of strong, solid, female characters at the moment. I was pleasantly surprised with Changeling because it's the first film in a while to offer a believable female character that's not a conniving vixen (i.e. bitch), "troubled", a damsel in distress, whiny...etc.
I've never been that big on Wonder Woman, and now that it's off of Joss' hands, I doubt I'll really be interested in the film.
Red Sonja looks terrible and I doubt they'll do Witchblade right (two times a failure).
Buffy was really the last great heroine up until now. It's quite sad that there have been rather few attempts to create another great heroine, and that the few attempts made have been either weak or just failed terribly.

Overall, if we are talking about exisiting female character, not too many of them have the status and level of recognition that it takes to make a successful movie, if we are only playing the DC/Marvel sandboxes. In the past, the studios just haven't gotten it right.
One character I think could be adapted very well is Jessica Jones. "Alias" (nothing to do with the TV show) is one of my favorite series, and it really shows a different side of a superheros, not just female heroes. I would love to see Jessica in her own story first, then in the "sequel" she would marry Luke Cage and start a family, while still struggling with her independence (or lack thereof now) and being a mother and a wife. Luke and Jessica's story is one of my fav. love stories in the comics.

I don't think it's a case of being sexist tbh. The most successful comic book heroes are male ones, and they're predominantly male because comic's target audience are boys. *shrugs*

These aren't superhero movies, but the prime example of female strong characters are Elphaba and Glinda in Wicked.
As to strong SUPER HERO female characters... The females on the show "Heroes" "Charmed" although that show sucked. X-Men Liv Tyler was a pretty strong female in The Incredible Hulk but she wasn't the hero.

You have Whistler of the Nightstalkers in Blade 3, Liz in Hellboy, and Elecktra in Daredevil too.

I guess what I'm looking for is a great MAIN female character. we can all think of a token female in a group of heros, or characters who are on the edge of hero and villain.

Are you looking for a female superhero to rival Buffy? Yeah, that hasn't happened yet.

hahahhaa no way!! I think buffy was a prime example of a strong, fleshed female heroine. I just wish there were more.
Where the fuck is Xena when you need her. she was fierce

Interestingly, I think the best female "superheroes" have been on TV. Not the comic books or movies.
Buffy, Sydney Bristow, Xena.

I think Buffy takes the cake as best female MAIN hero character of all time now that I really think about it.

I would like to see more of Raven Darkholme aka Mystique. I loved her on X Men (1-2) but I feel that she could of had a little more face time. So that her character could truly shine. An since I'm talking about Mystique, I just want to say that her eyes in X2 were awesome. I'll put up pictures to show you what I mean. I hated what happened to her in X3. The whole film was a disgrace and should be burned from everyone's memory for the sake on the X Men franchise.
Also... Raven! You know, that Gothic chick from Teen Titans. I want to see a movie based on her character so bad. Her background and powers are so interesting.

The Elektra film was horrid. Her part in the Daredevil film was already bad enough, and then Hollywood completely destroyed her in her own film. Quite sadly actually, because she is one of my favorite characters, and honestly, one of the best female characters in any fiction. As for the women in Heroes, sorry, but no. Love the series, but the female characters thus far, with the exception of Elle, have been weak and rather expendable. Elle herself isn't much of a champion for feminism either. Like I kinda said before, it's rather annoying that every female heroine/anti-heroine/villaness has to be either troubled, overtly sexual, whiny, etc. I definitely agree that Buffy is pretty much unchallenged thus far. Are you looking for a female superhero to rival Buffy? Yeah, that hasn't happened yet. True. Hopefully one day it will, and hopefully I'll be one of the guys on the forefront. Whedon has made a lasting impact on my writing, so I hope to one day write a heroine that's as unique and memorable as Buffy.

That movie was so bad that I walked out the theater cursing. (I don't usually curse in public!) Maybe some superheroes shouldn't be made into movies, I guess. Look what they did to X Men: The Last Stand! Elektra was so annoying with all that broodiness and "I'm antisocial and have a disturbing past!". I get enough of that with Angel. Ya heard? Too much of a transformation from sweet rich daddy's girl who knows how to kick some but to the depressed, OCD, crazy assassin. Seriously, what was wedged up her butt?

Wedged up her butt? Well, certainly not any originality or real sense of the character. And don't worry, I cursed as well.
