Story's starting to remind me a lot of the episode in Season Four entitled "Awakening" where Wesley brings a ninja/shaman to extract Angel's soul by giving him the 'perfect' day. If it's Angel's hell, then is it possible that it's all happening in his mind? Part of me wouldn't be surprised if the whole story just ended up being a nightmare in Angel's head, or a nightmare in Angelus's head, for that matter, because Angelus never wanted the world fall into the hands of demons or devils- he wanted the world for himself just as it was. I had the same thought... What if the whole story is taking place in Angel's mind, and somewhere in HellA Angel himself is already wreaking the destruction seen in Wesley's vision? It's a pretty wild theory, and I have no idea how autopilotAngel might actually work, but it's fun to grasp at straws. At least it would explain how everybody keeps popping back from the dead... But I don't think Angelus could actually play any part in the Shanshu. The prophecy's pretty specific about the vampire with a soul, so I'm pretty sure that one way or another, that's Angel in the vision. On a side note, there was that one time when Angelus tried to accomplish sucking the whole world into hell, so I think he'd kinda love HellA. But he would definitely want to be Lord of it.

On a weird sidenote, I once read a fanfic where Angel lost his soul and Angelus was back. He trapped the soul in a charm and wore it around his neck making him a vampire *with* a soul, just not an ensouled vampire...and this allowed Angelus to be the one who fulfilled the prophecy.

I seriously doubt that HellA is all in Angel's head. Brian and Joss wouldn't do that cop out type of storytelling. There are definitely going to be explanations for why everyone who was dead keeps coming back. We just got Cordy "back" and she came with an explanation as to why she was there. So more info is coming, I'm sure. I would be very disappointed if it were all a part of a dream Angel was having.

Well you could get metaphysical with it. I've seen some pretty crappy stories (not yours) that have physical manifestations of people's guilt. OH! You could even turn After The Fall into a political platform and drench the rest of the run with symbolism! Global Warming... Corporate America... You know, or you could just keep doing what your doing and making a really great story.

Extraordinary issue. I've read it several times already. Just seems to keep getting better. It's definitely obvious that Brian's getting more excited about the writing as the series goes on, as you can see the quality improve issue by issue. He's really getting to the meat of the series as a whole now, and in response the writing is pretty flawless. The only issue I had with the writing in the entire thing was the vague wording that's already been mentioned in Wesley's comment about Frillyria. Then again, that might have been intentional, showing that Wesley's not quite prepared to accept it's really her. I'd find that easy to believe, as Wes is a pretty grounded guy, not to mention if he truly believed without a doubt that she was in there, I'd think he'd have been doing more since their reunion to try to dig it out.
The only other thing that bothered me somewhat about the issue is how quickly Angel believed that the W&H vision was real. I suppose it could be because it came through a trusted source, but still, I don't get Angel being so ready to go off and die because W&H, master decievers, popped one little image in his head and said "Oh yeah, this is how it's gonna go down." If they were so certain of this little future of theirs, why would they have tried so hard for, I guess, six long years now to influence him?
As for the Frillyria theories, I'll throw mine in for sport: I'm wondering if maybe it was true that Fred's soul was consumed in the "fires of resurrection," as the creepy doctor said. Fred's soul was used as fuel, a reagent, for Illyria's return. Thing is, we don't know exactly how this mystical process works. It's entirely possible that Fred's soul was "consumed" in the sense that it was somehow transformed into Illyria's soul, or essence, or whatever it is she has. Now, we already know that Illyria's plan was never long-term habitation of the body. It was a temporary shell to be used to transport her to her lair where she could take her true form. When that plan failed, unexpected problems arose as a result of her using the body in the long term, hence the mutari generator. Perhaps another unexpected consequence of her prolonged habitation of Fred's body is that the soul that was transformed during her resurrection begins to reassert itself. The plan was for the body to be dead and gone by now. Who knows what parts of the resurrection she overlooked in her self-assuredness?
PS I was completely against all the cries of "bring Cordelia back" on account of her perfectly orchestrated ending on the show, but, Mr. Lynch, you've once again managed to best me. This was probably the only possible way I'd feel that her return was not just cheesy fanservice, and it was certainly not something I saw coming (I mean, come on, Angel dying? Yeah, right! Never gonna happen! haha)

Thank you, hunter233!
In all honesty, issues 12 and 13 play like one big chapter, so here's hoping everyone likes 13 as much as 12.

Doyle is not in the story, no. I haven't read Angel After the Fall. Trust me, Im looking in every store I CAN FOR IT! But I have heard people coming back form the dead. Like Wes, and well...I think the whole 'bring every1 back from the dead' thing is getting old... Not to be mean! I just think it's getting a bit old. And I am totally with bringing Fred back, because Joss planned it, and he ALSO planned on bringing Doyle back in the story in the ending to be a super mega god type. xD I think not bringing Doyle back would be a ... disgrace to his character. I feel he has to come back, at least for a page! xD Just my thoughts. !VS! P.S. - I plan on buying all TPB'S of Angel after the fall soon!
