Well, why does every issue need to be ground breaking and deep? It'll be a funny look at Spike and Angel realizing how the public see them as. You can't picture Spike reacting to the public seeing him as the female love interest of Angel in a negative, and, yeah, sorta deep way? Out of everything we've found out from Comic-Con this year, that bit is probably tied for my favorite with the Bill Willingham announcement. If they served an actual point and there was a story besides Angel acting all flustered, Spike making inappropiate jokes at Angel's expense, and Groo being amazed trying to figure out what everything around him means... then maybe it'd be cool. But it's something I'd expect five pages of, not two complete issues.

"The Cautionary Tale of Numero Cinco." "Harm's Way." "Disharmony." None of those are one note stories, all of them have silly concepts. I mean, even in comics. "Shadow Puppets" is about Spike going to Japan and becoming a puppet. And it's four issue. Yet it was emotional, hilarious, and true to the 'verse... because it was well written.

I'm guessing you're imagining something different.

I'm guessing you're imagining something different. Yeah, I am. I don't know what about Comic-Con makes you automatically think, "This will be a one dimensional story," buttt I don't think we have to worry about that. There will probably be some passing of the booths, but can you honestly picture Brian Lynch writing a 44 page story about that? C'mon. Remember why they're going. Not to see the New Moon posters or to go to a Joss Whedon panel or to interview Scott Allie. To see a movie... about themselves. How the public interpreted the events of "After the Fall." Could this not include some reflection? Examining of self? Spike being hilariously incredulous that he has been turned into a woman in the movie. Imagination. But either way, we're all just speculating off of someone's admittedly choppy Twitter reactions. I just don't see why the assumption that a writer who gave us funny series before that always had depth would suddenly throw it out because, ya know what, Comic-Con.

There are huge revelations in issues 26 and 27, some heartfelt stuff. Just so happens that the plot is a fun adventure. Kind of a pallet cleanser after the very dark Drusilla issues. If you don't want to read it, that's more than fine. Those that do will be entertained.
Also, Spike doesn't go dressed as Angel...you'll see.

26 and 27 sound... interesting, lol. I'm really looking forward to an Angel & Spike "double-act". Those two play off of eachother so well.
All looks promising for 28+, good writer and some great artists. I'll look out for that when it drops. IDW should really consider taking the numbers off of their HC's though lol; Aftermath is a black hole in the story.

Alrighty, don't say I don't love you kids. Here's arguably better coverage than the CBR one, courtesy of Newsarama: There's more there, but I think most of it was already covered before. This was the stuff that some of you were looking for and didn't find in the previous report.

Thanks for posting the coverage, I'm a bit confused, so Angel will even leave his own story but he will be somewhere? Connor deserves some decent story, but everybody is getting good stories in Angel's story except Angel ... poor guy. And poor me, because I love Angel.

That's pretty much how I feel about Angel; it just seems like he's being shafted because everyone wants to work with the peripheral characters, but no one really seems to want to do further work on him. But that gripe aside, I'm genuinely intrigued by the new guy...

Yesterday I read this:
"Beginning with issue #28 of Angel, Willingham plots a gripping story as the title character struggles with his new-found celebrity and the myriad, moral complications it creates."
From one of the recaps of the panel.
This suggests that Angel is around, maybe he is not gone for 6 issues?

I gotta say I agree. not happy that Angel is going to be missing. Then whats the point in calling it Angel?
By all means give the other characters intersting stories. Just not at the expense of the lead. After the Fall managed this. Even Aftermath (whatever you thought of it) was all about Angel. But having 6 issues taking place over 6 months with little or no Angel. Not my idea of an Angel comic.
Of course as always this is all based out of one Con report and it may be clarified at a later date (ie that Angel will be back in the 3rd issue or something) but for now all I can think is - " Will wait for the trade"
And those of you that know me know how much of a crazy statement that is. I even kept buying the individual issues of Aftermath for crying out loud!

Can't say I like the news that Angel is taking the backseat in the new story. After what happened with Aftermath, and now Only Human and Drusilla, it will feel like he haven't seen the character in a year. We need Angel to play a big part. I don't want to read six months worth of comics without the title character playing a big part... even though I will. It's just bugging me. We need Angel in Angel. Of course I'm going to read it, even if it was just Angel and Spike walking around. "Revelations", "heartfelt" and "fun adventure" is just something I needed to hear. Thanks.

Nah, as long as theres a reason he's not in it for however many issues then sure. Although it does sound like he's just in the background rather than totally gone to me. Either way though, i love Angel but i'm fine with an Angelbreak.

I suspect that, with Angel himself being a "franchise" character, there may have been too many Fox-imposed restrictions on what could be done with him in the story. So rather than compromise, Willingham decided to focus on a character he could go further with. He's not a typical "hired gun" writer who would be satisfied to just tell a boilerplate story and not disturb the status quo.
But Connor is far from my favorite character, so I have to trust he knows what he's doing.

No way he's gone for an extended period of time, much less six issues.
I'm pretty sure he means Angel will be away from the main action in LA for a while. "[T]hrough the magic of comic books" implies that we'll be seeing his side of things as well, doesn't it?

Angel gone... ?!!!!!
What is the point in calling it 'Angel' anymore?!
Is anyone else thinking that he may be gone to go pop up in Buffy Season 8?
Also, just hearign that the one writer said, "Illyria goes to her Uncle's funeral," makes me a bit unsure how well he understands Illyria/Fred.
All I want is a good story again. :/

Yeah, thats what i was thinking. He'll still be there but just not the focus. And thats fine by me. I don't even mind the focus shifting on to Connor, as long as he's written as well as under Mr Lynch and not just the whiny brat he returned to in Aftermath, which is my main worry. Wasn't his whole role in ATF more or less him growing up and not whining? And wasn't the new childhood Angel gave him at the end of series 4 also to make him more stable and less whiny? There better be a hell of a lot more to the story than "look at how much Connor's grown up" otherwise i will wait it out and i still picked up, and more shockingly, didnt completely hate Aftermath.
