Oh, god, I just had a horrible thought. All the speculation about Xander...
If it was Xander and Xander's the one who got all the weapons, what if all the weapons malfunction?

You'll be surprised at how much American TV makes it to the other side of the world. I grew up watching mostly American TV... including quite a bit of junk. Globalization at its finest.

I don't think American TV is allowed in China. They consider it western propaganda and decadent trash. Even if it was allowed, I don't think they would have much interest in, or understanding of, a show like Harmony's. If the Chinese government would be willing to tolerate an invasion of American soldiers in Tibet (their most sensitive area) under any circumstances, then I have to conclude season 8 is taking place in some bizarre alternate reality, and nothing we know about the world will be of any use in trying to understand things.

Well we also don't know how far Twilight's pull with military/government really reaches. He could have China in his pocket just like he does with America.

If he's got both China and America in his pocket, then he's the most powerful man in the history of the world. If so, there had better be a very compelling explanation for how he got that kind of influence. And why such a man would have to plot and plan and scheme, instead of just waving his hand and getting what he wants.

He's kind of wigging me out a bit too. I can't quite put my finger on why, but all of his weapon talk gave me pause. Then there is the fact that Jeanty said part of the reason why Buffy is into Xander is because he's a bad boy. Xander as we know him now, doesn't strike me as a bad boy. Eyepatch and the leader of an army of slayers on the run makes him edgier than carpenter Xander, yes, but a bad boy? Riley was the leader in a covert military demon-hunting operation which is kind of the same thing as the army of slayers, so I don't really see how Xander is bad and Riley is "notwithstanding." Unless Riley really is a good guy and Xander not-so-much. I'm probably totally wrong, but my spidey-sense got very tingly, and when I saw your post I got all nervous about the possibilities.

Wow good preview. I'm hoping the full issue stands well. I still agree that this is going to end in the bad for the white hats. Anyone else been feeling really bad for Will? Especially from the preview.

Seen any vampires lately? There's been no indication, in all the years of Buffyverse history, that the world itself and its people are fundamentally different from our reality, except for the presence of magic and vampires (largely unknown until recently.) It's supposed to be our world. And my suspension of disbelief is already stretched quite far enough this season. Joss is a good enough writer that he shouldn't have to change established reality and human nature just so he can hammer in his plot. It's all moot, though. Buffy won't call the Chinese army because that would short-circuit the story. So, question: What's the "big thing over there" that Andrew is referring to? And other question: Why did the Slayers and Wiccans lose their power so quickly when, as Willow points out, it was supposed to take weeks?

I'm not sure what the big item in question could be besides a high quality military weapon that's probably going to be their ace in the hole. Always wanted to use that term. I was thinking for a bit that maybe Oz was the traitor & that going to his home was a trap. I thought that maybe Twilight had approached him sometime, like the case with Riley, & got him to agree to help & he would spare his family. Narrow valley, alien terrain, stripped of your most familiar weapons & abilities. It would be a massacre. Then again that makes no sense because Twilight had to use his minions to track down Buffy's army. If Oz was involved he could have just shown up already. Something I've been wondering: Are all the girls present the 500, minus the lot who have died, from the squads? There are 1800 activated. Is twilight going after the girls who have the power but wanted nothing to do with the fight in the first place? That leaves 1300 out there, right? Then again you go after the one's who are the active threat before you go after the ones who could possibly be a threat.

The big thing... hmmm... maybe team Slayer salvaged the Mecha-Dawn. Wouldn't be the first time they do something like that...
Ruleto: I think it's been quite clearly established that Twilight's beef is not with Slayers in general, but with Buffy.

I wonder if it will be significant that they lost their powers so quickly... and that Willow in particular seemed to lose hers in a matter of hours.
I have to admit... my trust in Oz and Bay is not at 100% like it should be in a good Buffy fan.

That was some great stuff. Love the moral dilemmas and it was great to finally see Willow freak out. Jeanty really brought his A game to these pages too. Hopefully Buffy will pull something awesome off.

Someone mentioned they found it weird that Wilow dissapeared in issue 3. That tied with the fact that Willow has suddenly lost all her magic, like instantly. I've got a feeling Willow might have channeled her magic into something (other than "the earth") That or the baby is sucking up all of their magic........

After this preview I'm sure that Willow has somehow seen the future, read a propechy, whatever. She believes she will be a martyr in the future and taht she has to cast her nornal life aside for the greater good.
She thinks that she has to do things, maybe horrible things, and then that Buffy will kill her. She has to be magic, not Willow.
On the plus side tough, in the scenes with or in reference to Vasuki, it might not be guilt about cheating Willow is showing. It's just plain ol' "I have no life, I have a destiny, buhuu me".
Not that big a plus, but still.

I'm starting to distrust Bay as well. Oz I don't see betraying Buffy and the gang, but Bay I could totally see doing it.
My question is: what were they doing with the spare parts they salvaged from the submarine? Did they use those parts to make whatever it was Andrew was referring to? Perhaps Mecha-Dawn isn't that far off.

My question is: what were they doing with the spare parts they salvaged from the submarine? Did they use those parts to make whatever it was Andrew was referring to? Perhaps Mecha-Dawn isn't that far off. I think it was mentioned (last issue) that they were selling the parts to get weapons. That's where they got all those guns and grenades and things. (A submarine wouldn't carry much of that kind of stuff, since its crew would almost never have to engage in hand-to-hand combat.) Stuff that makes me suspicious about Bay and/or Oz: 1) Oz's unsurprised reaction to the submarine materializing in his front lawn. 2) The panel in #27 where Bay is shown with a sunburst background and Oz with a dark background... Georges Jeanty confimed this was deliberate and "subliminal." The transition from sun to dark is twilight. I don't think Oz or Bay is Twilight, but there could be a connection. 3) The fact that neither of them seemed surprised to see a strange cat hanging around in their house. 4) The fact that Bay can still transform at will into a werewolf, even though she has supposedly suppressed her nature. 5) The fact that the Slayers and Wiccans lost their powers so much more quickly than Oz and Bay said they would. I wonder if the renegade werewolves lurking out there in the woods will have any role to play in the upcoming fight. It would be cool if they showed up just at the right moment to attack Twilight's forces from behind. And why is nobody making any move to get Bay and the baby out of there to someplace safe? The place is going to become a war zone at any moment.

No no no! I'm totally with Willow on this one. I've said it before and I'll say it again. The scoobies are making a big mistake supressing their power. If I was one of them, I'd be protesting worse than Willow.
