Well no offense to Dushku, but she's already struck out twice. With Faith, she knows there's going to be an audience. Instead of being all "I wanna distance myself from Faith", she could embrace Faith because that was her breakthrough role. Yeah, but she could hardly know back in 2003 that "Tru Calling" and "Dollhouse" weren't going to last, could she? When she turned the spinoff down back then, it wasn't about "distancing herself from Faith"--it was that she was scared of being typecast. She was 22, her career was just beginning to get going, and she had just done a string of movies where she played characters very similar to Faith ("Bring It On", "Soul Survivors", "Jay & Silent Bob"), plus 5 years of playing Faith, off & on. She was worried that people would think that that's all she could do, and those would be the only types of roles she would be offered. She wanted to show that she could play other kinds of characters besides just "the bad girl". Hey, I would've loved to have seen a Faith spinoff, too, but under the circumstances I understand why she made the decision she did, and I respect her for it.

I remember telling Xi this a long time back, but hey, I'll throw it out there again: Summer Glau as the first female incarnation of Robin. Never happen, but I think it'd be cool.

Anya "embellishing" that woman's wish in "Beneath You" from a worm to a Sluggoth demon. She's supposed to be punishing the guy, right? So wouldn't it have been much worse of a punishment to make him a tiny little worm that even a little kid could step on and kill, rather than a ginormous creature that can eat dogs and continue to terrorize the woman he'd been abusing? Seems like she skewed that bit of vengeance way more toward the wish ee than the wish er.

Ooooh, good question. I like the one in Into the Woods where Buffy makes short order of all the vamps in the alley and then sees the cracked out vamp whore (lol) that Riley was with, let's her go, but then as the vamp is running down the street, thinking she is making her escape, Buffy hurtles the pool cue and impales her from the back. She turns into dust before she ever sees it coming. All of Buffy's dustage in this scene was bad ass! ;D Funny--that's actually maybe my least favorite. I just think it's one of Buffy's least-noble moments. Yeah, that last vamp is completely evil and doesn't deserve any mercy, but to act as tho she's letting her go, and then dust her at the last minute like that... it's the vampire-slaying equivalent of shooting someone in the back, which has always been looked at in battles/fights as one of the most underhanded, cowardly things you can do. Buffy absolutely should have staked her, but she should have done it right away, face to face. My favorites are probably the ones where the vampires have a funny reaction just before they go poof. Like Mr. Trick's, "Oh, no--no, this isn't good at all," or Sunday putting her hands on her hips and shaking her head. Or the stoner-vamp in her gang, and his disbelieving, "Whoa!"

She does look good, and she's funny and everything, and if she were the only one in it... It's just, I can't help but think are Lou Ferrigno and Erik Estrada really the kind of big-name celebs you wanna be putting your career on a par with?

I think the only thing that's majorly different in the original, as-written version is Dawn's bit at the very end. Yeah, there's different dialogue leading up to that, and more of it, but that's mostly just window-dressing. And if anything, I think I like the as-written version even less than the as-aired one. The "heart of the piece" is the same in both: Buffy comes up with a crazy-reckless plan, and everyone else finally decides "Enough!" And when some of them realize that they have a newcomer who has most of the same qualifications as Buffy, sentiment quickly grows for making a change at the top ("Yes we can!"). In the as-aired version, Buffy immediately becomes hostile and confrontational when she feels her grip on the reins starting to slip. Dawn finally does what she does because she realizes that the group has decided to follow Faith, and she knows that they can't have Buffy there as a disruptive influence. If Faith is going to be in charge, then everyone has to have confidence in her and believe in her, and they can't afford to have Buffy standing around in the corner saying, "Don't do it that way, she's going to get you all killed!" It's a great character-moment for Dawn, because even tho it's an incredibly-hard thing for her to do to the person she loves the most, she does it because she understands that it needs to be done, for the sake and safety of everyone else. But in the as-written version, in a true WTF? moment, Dawn simply decides that Buffy's not qualified for the job anymore... but somehow Faith is. Not only does she suddenly and inexplicably lose all confidence in Buffy's abilities, but she turns against her in favor of the try-to-kill-your-sister-type that she didn't even want in the house in the previous episode! The only way this makes any sense to me is if it was the beginning of the payoff (that ultimately never came) for the "Buffy won't choose you," bit in CwDP. If they'd aired this version, would there have been mention in the next ep that Dawn turned against Buffy here because she was convinced that Buffy was going to turn against her? In the end, I think all the changes they made for the final version were for the better. The original was more flattering toward Buffy, but made everyone else (Dawn and Giles especially) look even worse. But honestly, I don't like either one very much. They both feel phony, like drama just for the sake of drama. They're filler. Let's call them what they are: filler. They had 3 episodes between "Dirty Girls" and "Chosen", and they needed some stuff to happen to fill 'em up. Like, "Hey, let's have everyone stage a coup against Buffy for her crappy leadership, and throw her out of the house... but of course, she'll be right back in charge again 2 eps later." To be fair, there's probably not too much else they could've done by that point that would've been better, but that's their own fault--they were paying the price for neglecting the main characters (minus Buffy and Spike) all season long. Those 3 eps would've been a great time to pay off and wrap up the season-long character arcs for Willow, Xander, Anya, and Dawn... except they forgot to include any season-long character arcs for them. They spent so much time on the First/potentials/Seal of Danzalmacallit flobotanum-fest that they only had time to give each of them one frickin' centric ep in the entire season. Hell of a waste.

It is, but I didn't wanna spend a lot of $$, and it's still more than enough space for all my music (don't really care much about watching videos on it). And you can buy an 8GB memory card for it for another $10 that'll bump it up to 16, so that should last me for awhile. The 160GB ipod is ridiculous. My laptop is barely more than a year old, and it's only got a 130GB HD!

Along the lines of Buffy's SAT scores, the apparent-inconsistency of Cordy's intelligence is kind of annoying. She's shown to be pretty much of a ditz over the first 2.5 seasons ("The Tomato: Fruit or Vegetable?"), yet gets great marks on her SATs, and is admitted to some of the best schools in the country (Duke, Columbia). It even continues onto "Angel", when she doesn't know the difference between "anagogic" and "anorexic".
You could probably explain it away by saying that she was always very smart, and just did her best to hide it (as she once told Xander) because it didn't fit with the image she wanted to project, but in that case, that bugs me, too. I hate it when girls pretend to be dumb just to be popular, and it seems like a weird trait for a character to have on a show that was based on such a strong feminist idea...

- Almost all of the scenes with either Xander or Blaine in "Teacher's Pet".
- The giant bees in "Nightmares" (I have bee-fear; hornets, wasps, and yellowjackets, too).
- Dawn's cheerleader tryout. Scenes that are all about embarrassing a character as badly as possible always make me uncomfortable.

Cordy: Big demerits for the store-bought boobs. That's unfair. Cordy never got a boob job. Charisma did. You can't demerit her what Charisma did. I'm sure at least one of the cast have been anorexic, doesn't mean you hate them. She wanted a boob job, boobs look great, and we don't have to worry about the ethics of it because Cordy and Charisma are different people. Can you be sure that Cordy didn't? True, she never talked about it, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything. It seemed to happen sometime during the second half of S2 (BtVS), when Cordy's parents still had lots of money and her appearance was just about the most important thing in her life. It was during the course of the show, so I think it almost has to be tied to the character, at least somewhat. And she'd hardly be the first high school girl to have it done--the nut-case that was my uncle's first wife had it done when she was still in HS. But either way, when it's a topic like this that's strictly about physical appearance, I can't separate the actor and the character like that. There's almost nothing else that can ruin a hot girl the way that fake boobs do, and it sucks that Charisma felt the need to do it. I give big props to SMG, Aly, MT, Emma, Amy, and the rest for having enough self-confidence to realize that they didn't need them.
