Chris Ryall posted some new tidbits about the upcoming Franco Urru (and possibly John Byrne) Angelus project on his BLOG: This first cover we have already seen, but the image tag gave us the title of the project: ANGEL: BARBARY COAST. And Urru continues to prove he's one of the best with the first preview page:

I wonder... since Buffy has lost her Slayer abilities and has gained these new ones, can she still be classified as a Slayer anymore? If not, then what claim can she make for the Slayer Scythe? She found the Scythe (finders keepers...) and has been the one to primarily wield it, but from now on... should she? Will she even need a physical weapon with her new abilities? For all we know she could be strong enough to just rip off heads as opposed to slicing them off, or just carry a demon a mile into the air and let go, etc.
So should the Scythe go to Faith then? I'm assuming, of course, that all of the other Slayers will get their powers back. While Buffy will still be in charge, Faith would be the new "Slayer in Charge" in a sense.
Something fun to think about, although I am definitely not against Buffy flying around with that Scythe causing demon-slaying mayhem.

I really love Jenny's cover. After her first iffy cover, all the rest have been just great. I love how each has its own unique imagery and cover palette. I love what she did with the transfusion tubes here, and how defeated and dead Angel's eyes look.
I hope she posts a higher quality cover on her deviantART page soon, because whoever is resizing and saving these covers over at IDW to send to outlets needs to learn how to save in the proper high quality in Photoshop.

Yeah I also found it a bit odd that there wasn't any scrambling about how to save everyone that was captured. The tone in the preview was the exact opposite of that, as if no one has even been captured (we still have to see how it all plays out anyway).
Except for that though, very interesting preview. Buffy's thought about how her flying feels so natural is interesting, not because she has hated it in the past, but because "natural" is a term she would probably use to describe her old Slayer powers. They came natural to her, just like her newfound abilities seem to be. It raises some interesting questions about destiny in an "all roads lead to here" type of way. Cool.
If Willow got her powers back as a result of FDW Willow dying at the end of TOYL, then that is just awesome.

That's a shame. I wonder if she had a similar problem that Andy did? Either way, 32 is way too young. She hadn't done much recently, but she was alway pretty good in whatever she was in.
R.I.P.
(Moved this to the Bronze since that is where we have posted deaths in the past.)

I think Brian has said somewhere that as long as this sells well, IDW will do more. So it's up to us!

Yeah it will be interesting to see what Willingham does with James. He's only been in a few issues (and written by a poor writer), so Willingham could really take him into any direction he wants.

Also, while the repetition of the "Halloween" thing bothered Emmie, I loved it. Of all the things Joss is so, so amazing at, the one things he is bad at is consistent mythology. From vampires facial hair to nature of Hell and Evil and souls... a lot of it is inconsistent. Which is why I love the fact that the same object is being used again, because it just makes the 'verse--in my opinion--seem realer. To me, it always seemed false when something so big and important would be mentioned by Giles or discovered in research, and then never mentioned again. One of my favorite parts about that issue was that they were using the same method "Halloween" used. Wanted to bring this its proper thread, because this is how I feel as well. Saying it makes the 'verse "realer" is the best way to describe it, as that is exactly what it does. It's always refreshing to see mythology revisited.

Do you one better - I'll incorporate that into my Christmas fic for SlayAlive Scribes Challenge. Realistically, they'll probably drive each other crazy for 100 years, then sit and drink and shoot the breeze for another 100. Then they'll try to escape, only to have Illyria yank them out as they're about to execute the escape plan. Lmao, I definitely could see it playing out that way. ;D

Hehe it would be interesting to see what would happen to Angel and Spike if the "brothers in arms" aspect of their relationship was removed (perhaps when magic is banished, if that brought upon some world peace). My guess would be that they'd kill each other within a week. ;D
That would make for an interesting story somewhere down the line. Send Angel and Spike to a dimension where there are no demons or evils to fight, and see how long they can stand each other.

I've always found the Angel/Gunn relationship to be more of a mentor/mentee (uh, someone who is mentored... I dunno the word for that - apprentice?). It always seemed like Gunn was trying to do the right thing whenever he acted, but he was never really sure what the right thing was, exactly, which is where Angel comes in. See: end of "That Old Gang of Mine" and the "it should wake you up in the middle of the night, and it will... because you're a good man" scene from "Underneath". Angel's had quite a few years of experience in trying to do the right thing (and variously succeeding/failing on different levels), so he knows how Gunn feels moreso than most. Angel/Connor will probably always have that arbitrary distance that exists between father/son - at least IMO. I definitely think they'll grow closer, but it won't be like best-bros close. Definitely agree with you here, on both counts. I think that both of the reasons for Gunn and Connor that you gave might ultimately prevent them from reaching that level. Connor maybe when he is much older, but with what Gunn went through in AtF, I don't see him ever not being able to learn something from Angel. I do think they could get to that place in their friendship though, but it could be a while. I did want to include Spike, but since Spike will be getting his own limelight soon, and won't be around Angel enough to establish a much closer bond, I didn't think it was wise to include him. I love their relationship though, especially how much it has grown since After the Fall started.
