Is it just me that Buffy blood give Angel an upgrade on his abilities, thats why he can kill demons and vampire on his own show?

I've now finished Season 1 of Angel and I've come to realize...I can't stand it. Its like watching Buffy with all the life and humor sucked out of it, and the main character is painfully dull, and inappropriately shirtless all the time. It is such a drag to watch...but Cordelia's storyline keeps beckoning me to keep watching.. I've just finished the first season, too - and I feel the same way. Although I must say that Wesley ( rogue demon hunter) joining the team made me like the show a bit more ..."As a point of courtesy, I like to get to know my opponents before I engage them in mortal combat. Do, uh, do you have any hobbies?" xD I only watch AtS because of him and Cordy. I hope that Angel eventually will become more likable - I've seen glimpses of this on youtube, and I'm waiting patiently

Angel is only good for Doyle, Wesley, Lindsey and Spike and Harmony when they turn up.

Angel as a show is not Superior then the mother show BUFFSTER. I liked Doyle but i didn't like how his character was so similar to Angels, IMO that's why i think The writer killed him off.

I prefer Buffy as a whole, but Angel is a lot less annoying. Seasons 2, 3 and 5 are absolutely amazing, and I'd rather watch them then 1, 2, 6 and 7 of Buffy. Angels dullness really doesn't bother me because there's so much more to be interested in, and he actually becomes okay later on. Angel certainly got better secondary characters than Buffy ever did.

I prefer Buffy way more, Buffy has lots of arrange of great quality episode but too me Angel lack that because some episode were boring, plus their were attached to the main arch. And to me Angel dullness does matter because he is the main character. But i agree that Angel does have some highs. Like season 4 for an example. Season 5, bleh.

Blaah. I guess I'll keep watching it, hopefully it gets better. The crossovers from the supporting characters in Buffy make it worth it I guess. But if they gave Spike a spin-off series, it'd be so much more tolerable. I guess Angel does have a fanbase...but I will never understand why. Plus Doyle was 100x cuter than Angel, which in my personal opinion, is why he was killed

The thing i hate about Angel, is how much they destroyed Spike's character in season 5....
You will only understand it if you watch seasons 4,5,6and 7 from Buffy and then immediately season 5 from AtS.
The first time i've watched the shows i didn't realize it, and i thought that season 5 of AtS was super, but when i rewatched Buffy, from season 7 i went straight to season 5 of AtS....
Spike's character goes back to Spike season 4-5 in Buffy.... No redemption, no feeling guilty, just the annoying, sharp-witted Spike we knew in Buffy 4-5.
I think the main reason was that Spike's character was becoming too popular, even more than Angel's, and they had to do something about it....

And to me Angel dullness does matter because he is the main character. I was just thinking about this exact topic today. I prefer BtVS a whole lot more. Even if it's an episode I don't particularly care for I'm more likely to watch a so-so ep of Buffy over a good episode of Angel. For me with Angel I tend to like moments in the episodes but it's rare that I like the whole episode. I tend to be bored when I watch Angel eps. Right now I'm trying to get through Angel and Buffy Season 3/6 and I'm excited for the Buffy eps but with the Angel eps I procrastinate. And many times I have to force myself to watch the Angel ep so I can get to the Buffy one. It's weird because I love the characters on Angel. I liked Angel, I mostly like seeing his past experiences over his current ones though. Wesley and Gunn I've loved since the second they came on. Fred I had to warm too but once I did I enjoyed her. Cordy I loved in season's 1 and 2 and half of 3 and I loved her again in the ep Your Welcome. I also loved the bad guys, Lindsey, Lilah, Darla, and Dru. But I prefer to watch a Buffy episode over 95% of Angel episodes.

I agree that the arcs in Angel, that take up large portions of the seasons, can be unsatisfying, in case I just want to watch one ep, not 5 in a row. I haven't counted them, but I feel like Buffy has more stand alone episodes. I think the main reason was that Spike's character was becoming too popular, even more than Angel's, and they had to do something about it.... I can't exactly agree. For me, I think it's understandable that he gets back to his "roots" in season 5, because he didn't have Buffy to impress anymore, and he was thrown into a building surrounded by people who didn't give a damn about him (expect for Fred and Harmony). No wonder he got bitchy again. I also don't blame him for not being able to feel regret at first (we saw in Lies My Parents Told Me that he wasn't exactly a 100 per cent understanding), or not acting as shameful as around Buffy in season 7, because he hadn't tried to rape anyone a W&H. In season 4, he was trying to become his own man, living without Dru, chipped yet with a murderous mind. The same for season 5, except then he falls in love again, and starts acting all gooey and whipped. This continues into season 6, expect now, in a destructive relationship, he's gooey, trapped, loving, yet still evil. He doesn't joke around as much then as in the earlier seasons, but I bet that's just because we're not following him around all the time (when he's not hanging around Buffy he's probably regular old season 4 Spike). In season 7 he was a shell, a echo of the snarky vampire he used the be, tamed, but we could see the potential of the man and hero he could be. He was starting to grow as a person. Then came Angel season 5 and he started a journey to become a man that jokes, bitches and whines, likes ladies and has a heart of, well, if not gold, something gold-like. I see the Ats S5 version as all the earlier versions of Spike (except for the BtVS season 2 villain) combined. But without Buffy, he did revert a bit into his earlier more carefree self, which was to be expected, since he didn't need to be all "Oh Buffy, sorry for trying to rape you, I love you, and I'm still a bit insane". But by the end of the season, he was doing the right thing again, without Buffy needing to inspire him to greatness like before (although he probably did want to impress Fred a bit, and honor her memory after she died). To sum up, in season 6 & 7, great parts of Spike's personality was repressed so he could get into Buffy's pants. Then Buffy, and her pants, were nowhere near him, and Spike stopped being whipped, started to fool around a bit, then started to grow up for real.

If I had to pick a season Spike was destroyed in it was season seven hands down. I didn't mind crazy Spike in the beginning, but everything after that until Get it Done was awful. I've already express in this thread how I couldn't stand how he was in Sleeper. I love season five Spike in Angel. For some reason a lot of people don't, but I seriously don't get it. JM and DB had the best chemistry.

I think I never do get the same feeling watching Angel as I do Buffy, but at the same time, I probably shouldn't. I do think Buffy is probably a superior show in many ways, but I think if Angel had been continuing on with the power it had in the 5th season, it might then become a contender.
I think there are many many things that AtS has that makes it a great show, but there does always seem to be something missing. I do feel that it some ways Angel is not necessarily the best person to have as the main character. I like him on his show and I like that he grew out of being 'the hot, brooding boyfriend of Buffy' role, but is he the best character to be at the front of the show? I don't know. However I don't think any of the others would necessarily be best either...

I don't like Under Your Spell. Amber Benson has an absolutely gorgeous voice but I just find the song boring. The reprise with Tony Head though is the best song from Once More With Feeling.

I don't enjoy watching Once More With Feeling as much as I used to. It's great, great editing, singing, acting, writing, but it makes me so sad, seeing Tara's reaction to being violated and Buffy & Spike "relationship" starting, which will lead to more heartbreak, disgust and finally, Seeing Red.
I have that icky-feeling throughout the entire season, until the end with Dark Willow, because at least then Willow and Tara had made up and Spike was out getting his soul. Kind of messed up that the happiest part of the season for me is around the time of Tara's death.

I don't tihnk Angel is dull in Angel, I used to hate him in Buffy. But in Angel he seems.. cute. So incredibly socially inept he reaches the same level of cuteness as Willow. Plus Cordy makes him fun half of the time

I love it when Angel gets things wrong. Favourite moments include him going to tell the scoobies that Willow is dead, infront of Willow. And in the first season of Angel when he's chasing the bad guy, he leaps into the car and tries to start it, only to realise it's the wrong car.

I'm sorry to all the Cangel and Spuffy fans in advance. This is coming from a major Spuffy fan and someone who only ships Cangel's friendship. I do believe that Angel loved Cordelia and Buffy loved Spike in a different way than Angel loved Buffy and vice versa. With that being said...I think people are fooling themselves when they say Buffy loved Spike more than Angel or Angel loved Cordelia more Buffy. A part of it is because all you ever heard is how much Buffy and Angel loved each other and blah blah blah. The other part of it is because I don't think Spike and Cordelia never really got their chance since they died before anything got to be build or rebuild.

Willow, Xander and Doyle are overrated. Dawn is underrated. Season four of Angel was the best and the fans need to get over Cordelia. Season five of Angel sucked and Spike sucked in it. Kennedy sucked*. The Predators and Prey story line in Season Eight was pretty good. Joss' idea of bringing back Tara in season seven by Buffy's wish is ridiculous. It would go against everything that Tara's death meant and I hope to god he was joking was he said that's what he wanted to do. Everyone kicking Buffy out of the house in season seven was BS. Pure, utter BS. Giles encourages Buffy to train the girls and create an army, but the moment she makes a decision they don't like, they kick her out? BS. The Faith the Vampire Slayer spinoff sounded pretty meh. *I know this is in no way unpopular. I just like saying it.
