Here is some more info (and covers!): Spinning out of the events of Angel #23, Gunn and Illyria embark on their very own four-part miniseries. Fully restored in body if not in mind, Illyria—infected with humanity—and Gunn—infected with darkness—hit the road in an attempt to find redemption, or die trying. By Scott Lobdell (Galaxy Quest) and David Messina (Star Trek: Countdown)!

This is so cool! Focus on Gunn and Illyria sounds like it could make for a great story, based on where both characters are at, they could help each other. SO happy about the writer, Galaxy Quest is one of my favorite comedies, hope he'll be able to do both characters justice. Messina doing the art is so cool too, he draws such an amazing Gunn. Love the covers, funny and epic.
Not sure if I'll be buying the single issues or waiting for TPB/HC.

Woooohoooooo, more info! Yes! Where'd you find this narflet? I can't believe Scott Lobdell is writing! Galaxy Quest is one of the funniest movies of all time (yes, that's a fact). I can't wait to see how he handles the characters. And David Messina! So excited he gets to jump into this series again. His artwork in Spike's FIRST NIGHT story was some of my favorite in AFTER THE FALL and his work in SMILE TIME was excellent as well. I am glad this is going to be a separate mini-series, as that means we'll be able to get back to Angel in #26, hopefully. I wonder when this will launch and if Gunn and Illyria will be out of the main title (say #26-29) while this series is running? Guess we'll need a new sub-board! EDIT: Oh and how cool of a concept is that first cover? I harkens back to old children's book series from the early 90s, like the Boxcar Children: Messina's cover is fantastic as well.

Hahaha, The Boxcar Children is a perfect example. Still can't get over how funny that cover is, Illyria looks hilarious. I hope every issue has a cover like that.

Never heard of the writer, but I'm happy that others are glad that he writes it.
I love the little Burkle sign in the first cover, is it random or are they finally going to tell the Burkles that their daughter is kind of gone?

EDIT: Oh and how cool of a concept is that first cover? I harkens back to old children's book series from the early 90s, like the Boxcar Children: Lobdell writes the Hardy Boys books, doesn't he? Just looked him upon Wikipedia and he writes the Hardy Boys graphic novel/comic series. He also didn't write the "Galaxy Quest" movie, but the comic series IDW is publishing. It seems he has also wrote a popular X-Men series in the 90s and even spent some time on the old Darkhorse Buffy run (issues 47-59). Those arcs are "Viva las Buffy!" "Slayer Interrupted" and "Angels We Have Seen On High" from the first two Omnibuses. I think there may be another, but I couldn't find his name after the first two. I enjoyed those stories more than the others in the Omnibuses, and I thought he captured character voices very well. Oh and the other arc "Note from the Underground/Hellmouth to Mouth" is set during the 6th season and is a Buffy/Angel crossover, and I don't have the 6th Omnibus yet (or will this story be in the 7th?). Anyone read this one? How was it?

Oh, and I haven't read "Note from the Underground" but I want to, because Pike is in it and I have a soft spot for him. It'll be in the seventh omnibus I'd imagine.

Yeah I really want to read his final story as well. I believe Faith gets busted out of jail and Angel tells Buffy about Connor. Sounds like a fun story.

is that suppost to be illirya in the 1 cover? i'm scareddddd That is Illyria, as Fred, turning back into Illyria (I believe). And I really, really love that cover design. Like I posted earlier, it really looks a lot like old children's series from the late 80s and 90s, and I think the concept is pretty awesome. I wonder who did the art? Be great if all 4 issues had a cover like that. I love the little Burkle sign in the first cover, is it random or are they finally going to tell the Burkles that their daughter is kind of gone? I didn't even notice the mailbox when I first saw the cover, but nice catch! If Gunn and Illyria really do go to the Burkles, then I think we are in for some great character studies. The man largely responsible for Fred's death and the thing that killed her showing up at their door? Can't wait.

This is better than I could have expected. This means we'll be getting the main title AND this? Utterly fantastic. I definitely hope (and think that) Gunn and Illyria rejoin the main cast after this, but I couldn't be happier about this. Lobdell did great in "Viva Las Buffy" and I'm sure he'll do just as great with these characters.

Since this will technically take place during AFTERMATH, Gunn and Illyria could be back with #26 theoretically. That may be kind of weird though, but I hope this starts a month after #23, which would allow Gunn and Illyria to return to the main ANGEL title in #28 or so.

I've been trying to work out who the A cover is by. From inspecting the signature I think it might be Dave Dorman: www.davedorman.com/index.shtmlI've fired off an email to him to ask, so I'll let you know when (and what) reply I get.

That would definitely be the ideal starting point. Both from a storytelling perspective and from a "We have a lot of Angel books to read, yay!" perspective. Because check it out.
JUNE Final AFTERMATH issue. Final BLOOD & TRENCHES issue. Second NOT FADE AWAY issue.
JULY Angel #23 Final NOT FADE AWAY issue.
AUGUST Angel #24 Angel: Only Human #1
It would be ideal to start that way. Because after so many months having so much Angel, I might go through withdrawal if it goes back to only one per month.

Yeah with NOT FADE AWAY and BLOOD & TRENCHES done by August, starting ONLY HUMAN with #24 seems like the best plan. I guess we will find out in two weeks or so when we get the solicitation for August.

Wow, this looks actually really cool. I hope its better than Aftermath, because so far, it makes me want to tear my hair out and cry. Im glad that we will finally have someone else than Kelly on the Angel train now because its time that Season 6 got good again. Full speed ahead!

Anyone read this one? How was it? That is so cool! Note From the Underground is easily the best non-canon Buffy arc, it's like an epic action movie from beginning to end. Didn't know it was from the same writer, now I'm really excited for this.
