Good news for Spike fans...guess we are gonna find out what Spike and Illyria got up to in the months leading up to After the Fall in this 4 issue miniseries leading up to the events of Angel:After the Fall! "While the character has appeared in Angel: After the Fall, there were certainly some questions left unanswered. Those burning questions will be answered in Spike: After the Fall miniseries launching in July from IDW, by Brian Lynch and Franco Urru. As for the continuity…hang on… Angel: After the Fall #6, #7 and #8 tell stories of how the cast of characters was affected by the fight in the alley that ended the series. Issue #6 will feature Spike, Connor and Lorne; issue #7 will feature Wesley and a surprise return of a character from the Whedonverse; while issue #8 will feature Gwen, the effect of LA being thrust into hell on the city’s residents, and the fate if Gunn. Issue #9 will pick up from the cliffhanger at the end of issue #5, and will feature the new art team of Nick Runge and Art Lyon. #8 and #9 will both ship in June. Spike: After the Fall will spin out of the “First Night” events seen in Angel: After the Fall and events in issue #7, and tells of Spike’s first few months in hell and co-stars Illyria. Spike: After the Fall will run four issues." forum.newsarama.com/showthread.php?t=149750

Hmm.... excited? Hell yes! More Angel comics! This is amazing news and I hope we see more characters. One thing that kind of bugs me though, is that it seems like Spike it taking away Angel's thunder, but I am excited about this. Maybe this will pave the way for more spin-offs! Connor, Gwen & Nina? Gunn?
I'm a little annoyed that the art team is changing for After the Fall after First Night, since I like one style of art for mini-series. Hopefully it will be good.

Angel has his own title, and dont forget this is still taking place in Angels world. Angel:After the Fall is still going on, and still will. There is room for Spike and the others too:)

I'm a little annoyed that the art team is changing for After the Fall after First Night That's exactly what I was going to say! Especially since Urru is apparently just moving over to work on this "Spike" series? Why not just have the new art team do Spike, and Urru continue on "Angel"? Then everything would match. On the other hand, when Paul Lee and Cliff Richards stepped in for an issue each on S8, their style was similar enough that there wasn't a jarring difference compared to Jeanty's. Hopefully that'll be the case here, too.

Should be interesting, I'm glad they're expanding the series. I was wondering how they were going to cover so much that happened between First Night and the first issue, but with a Spike mini-series coming, that answers my question.

Good news!! But honestly I would rather read about Gwen and Nina and how they got involved. Who knows maybe that will all be in the first night issues.

Stealing Angel's thunder is what Spike does best! The wonderful thing about Spike is that he's the only one... Heeee's the only one.

Stealing Angel's thunder is what Spike does best! The wonderful thing about Spike is that he's the only one... Heeee's the only one. I was waiting for these reactions to come lol See I dont see it that way at all. I am an Angel fan first and foremost, yet I don't see this as Spike stealing Angels 'thunder'. No more than Faith stole Buffy's thunder with her 'mini within a story'. This is just another part of the main story. I think that we will see more than Spikes story in this.Of course Illyria will play a main part. And I suspect we will see Connor involved as well. Since Angel was...incapacitated at this point then the story of the first few weeks after NFA can be told with Spike. I cant wait to see what happens in this.

I wonder how similar this is going to be to the TV movie Joss had planned for Spike and Illyria? Interesting stuff, though. I've never been a huge Spike fan - I think his presence became too overbearing in the last seasons of both shows, Buffy especially - but I do think he's an interesting character, and I'm looking forward to seeing where they take this one...
Also quite excited by the fact that we're going to get so much of this before July! I wish Buffy was over at IDW, they really keep their writers hopping with knocking out the comics!
