What stereotypes have you noticed that are rude, hurtful, offensive, and untrue? This thread is for all genders, races, ethnicity, etc.

Thank you, Beaumonde. I already mentioned above that you could correct me if I was wrong.

What's camp? If I don't know what that is, does that make me an idiot (I'm gay, too).

It's probably only used in the UK lol. Over we here we use the word camp to desribe really feminine gay men

Oh. That's one of the stereotypes that I hate most. They picture gay men as always wearing drag, or walking like a girl, talking like a girl. Batting their eyelashes and crap. But some of it actually is true, at least about me and people I've seen on reality shows. Sometimes gay mens voices are a little high and sometimes they walk a little femminine, but it's annoying to assume the same about everyone.

I know that sometimes its true, and thats perfectly fine, I just think it's silly that people assume all gay guys are like that, because at the end of the day, some straight people are camp, so why cant some gay people not be camp? Like me.

I know, right. And I'm not "camp" either. At least I don't think so...
My voice is a bit girly, but that's about all.

That's another thing that annoys me, people think a gay guy is camp if he has a girly voice, even though lots of people have girly voices no matter if they are gay or straight.

I hate that people assume that because I wear black I must be a satan-worshipper

I hate that people assume that because I wear black I must be a satan-worshipper Yep, yet another stereotype that annoys me. People should be able to wear what they want to wear, its just clothes.

I hate when people assume that I'm posh because I go to an all-girls school, I only go there because I got bullied at my old school so badly that I developed anxiety and the teachers blamed me, so I had to get out of there to somewhere that would actually support me. And most of my friends are really down-to-earth too, but we get discriminated against when people see our uniforms; like the driver of my local bus had a real go at my once when I wa sonly 15 because of my school. I say this of British private schools, I don't know about American ones, but it really upsets me.

I am always wearing black, but people at my school just call me emo for it. But what they call me and what they call you are both stereotypes that annoy the tell out of me. But my school is right; I'm emo.
I don't know why people would think that your are snobby just because you go to a school with uniforms. They should think about other reasons first! For all they know, you could have been sent their against your will. People just shouldn't assume things.

I have a few friends from really good schools and even have what we would call posh accents because they are from England. They have the same problem, everyone thinks of them as posh and that means that some people just dont want to know them, but in truth they are some of the most down to earth people I know.

I can't stand the assumption that gay gals outside the media are super masculine... On TV they're always ridiculously girly. And IRL, they're expected to be very butch. I've never understood this, honestly. I mean. Why can't people be in between?
People are always SO SURPRISED that I like girls just 'cause I don't wear boy's clothes...

^^^ There are so many unpleasant stereotypes about gay women. I think it was the movie "4 Christmases" implied there was a "gay woman haircut" to watch out for. I mean seriously, come on. And thanks for the support MB and Somnambulist

^^ what Danner said and the stereotype that all lesbians are man-haters and/or feminists.
I have more guy friends then girl friends....and one of them is one of my best friends.

That one bothers me a ton too. Also, even that feminists are assumed to be gay bugs me... Most of the feminist stereotypes bother me, actually, like how people say they don't have proper hygiene and hate men for no reason.

I'ts pretty annoying that because I'm "innocent," have strong religious values, and that I'm nice and sweet (yeah, in real life I am overly nice. I know right? Who knew?), that I grew up in a very sheltered family. Apparently when you're like that, you MUST be raised in a "Seventh Heaven" style home. Truth is, I was raised pretty much by my mom in every crappy apartment you can think of (who had me out of wedlock--neither of my parents have ever been married), my dad is "law-impaired" and is basically a slut, and I had little to no restrictions as far as what I was and wasn't allowed to do growing up. My morals have nothing to do with my family's.
