I hate to say it, but I think Angel is at the point now where he'd be a more interesting character if he just did an Anakin Skywalker, and embraced the evil. After this, I have to think he's coming around to the opinion that there's no point in fighting it.
I wonder whether his role in season 9 will be that of a white hat or a black hat?
Season 9 could be based on the contrast between Angel (destiny's bitch) and Buffy (destiny's nemesis).
One of the first things Buffy says when Merrick comes to her is "I'm destiny-free, really." I suspect her whole character arc is pointed in the direction of finally making that a reality. And Angel is the counterpoint. If he's saved in the end, it's going to be because Buffy saves him.

So the Master and Giles have an alliance? Is that what the panels are hinting at?

Nice preview! Though I wonder how it's gonna wrap up by the end of the issue. Angel tries to kill Spike, Angel and Buffy are beating each other up again (no surprise there. As Spike said, they fight and they shag) and Xander is thinking they're gonna lose. Hm, I smell someone dying in this issue

I swear, this is the best preview I've read in a while, for the reason stated above -- it MADE ME WANT TO READ THE REST OF THE ISSUE.
Epic conclusion incoming!

You bring up something I never really considered before. What if Angel is not redeemed? What if he becomes an ongoing Big Bad, ala the Joker or Doctor Doom? Or maybe he is "Morally ambiguous" going forward? I just always assumed Joss would find a way to bring him back to good guy status.

We already had the shagging and fighting part - maybe the hating part is about to start? Lovers Walk- the "love's bitch" speech in kinetic typography clip.

The paneling was really well done! The art, the dialogue (for the most part) is also on point! Really excited for the issue.
I'm kind of scared. I don't want anyone to be killed off, because I don't think this story justifies the death of any core character. Overall the Season took a turn for me around Issue 20-24. I lost interest, and I haven't liked the developments that much. But that aside, I am still really looking forward to the ending of the Season and news about what's to come next Season.
I'm hoping for epic, I'm hoping for heartbreak, and I am also hoping for closure.
I read somewhere that Buffy was always at it's best when it involved Angel, or Angelus. And while that may be true, I still find myself not as invested in this Twilight as Angel stuff. Maybe it's because I side with Willow, I do not want this world to end.
Protect the Seed!

That settles it. I'm now completely convinced Xander is the betrayer. Unless those flashforwards we saw in Anywhere But Here were lies, we know the Seed will be broken. These past issues and the preview have really set up Xander as wanting to end the whole demon-horde-thing (which breaking the Seed will do), so it just makes sense to me. They've also been making a real point of showing Faith has the scythe. It's been said it'll come back into play, right? Perhaps, she and Xander will work together. Xander certainly can't get passed Willow and The Master by himself.
*obligatory statement that Giles is going to die*

*obligatory statement that Giles is going to die* Why would he need to get past them? He has that nice shiny pistol he can use to just shoot the Seed and Willow and the Master would probably be too preoccupied to stop him.

I've said this before, the onyl way Angel will be redeemed in my eyes is if hell is thrown on top of him and he comes out of it - again. He can't be blamed for being controlled NOW, but before -- Angel being destiny's bitch must stop. Season 8 ruined Angel for me...I hope they bring him back.
I'm pretty sure Willow, Xander or Giles are ever going to die. They're the core Scoobies. I'm pretty sure Joss said that they won't ever die. That's why my thoughts are lingering over to Dawn...

Like Angel's journey of redemption has ever mattered on Buffy? As usual, it gets tossed aside in favour of Angel being Buffy's lovesick puppy whenever the guy shows up. Angel was pretty cool, you know, he was my hero and all....until season 8 came along and %&@#ed him up completely and tore him apart

I say that agai and again This Angel - the one in s8- is not and never will be the Angel I love, the Angel of five seasons of AtS, After the Fall and IDW comics. He's a puppet only put here at Buffy' service... i don't give a piss about B/A but I want Joss not to destroy this character, five seasons of his show and his journey because Buffy has to shine, be the strongest one and possibly save him.

Thank God there are other like minded sane people here!People wondered why we were getting upset that Angelnwas going back to Dark Horse-this is why.
I can only hope and pray they do a good job with the character in his own title because I cannot take anything that happens in Season 8 seriously.
Reset button would be handy right about now...

..also, I do not find that the story you're narrating, both then so original ... the plot whole eighth season the feel so deeply redundant and I wonder, if in the end, it was worth it to destroy a character like Angel. Obviously I reserve my final judgment, once everything is finished, but see my favorite character reduced in this way, I don't me bodes well for the ninth season, and it says a that awaited a meeting between Angel and Buffy by time... but not this way ...careful what you want, you may obtain itthat bitterness

Slayer getting cut in half But yeah the art's stepping up man, nice one Jeanty. Not really feeling Willow's generic love speech to the seed, that stuff gets real old real fast. Although I am liking the fight panels. The gritty fight scenes are what first attracted me to the show. PROTECT THE SEED!
