That's what I'm wondering. They've been saying 40 pages since The Chain but there is still usually only 22-24 actual comic pages.

Both the covers are really cool. I like having a new artist on the regular covers for a few issues, shakes things up a little. But I hope Jo comes back soon! I think this is definitely my favorite variant as well.
So The Great Master-bator will be making his return?? Sounds good.
I would love to see Oz come back. He did treat Willow badly in the end, but before that he was great with her. It would really be interesting to see what their dynamic is like. But I certainly don't think Willow would renounce her lesbianism.
I would kill for a Xander arc. The world needs more Xander.

Think the woman in the Foster cover might be a wacky take on Drusilla? It would be interesting to see Dracula and Dru together. She might buy into his cheesy crap! LOL Interesting thought! Also, on the Foster cover, I think you can see the werewolf in between the vamps morphing from vamp to wolf. Might just be me but I think I can see something. Finally, I'm glad it's gonna be a vampire-based arc. And 40 pages! WOOP! Is that werewolf wearing pants and a belt?! Just counted. 24 pages of content.

I love the Jon Foster cover! His Buffy likeness is great. What a great title! "Wolves at the Gate"! I'm really excited for this arc, but mostly because I love Drew Goddard. He was an amazing writer on Buffy and wrote some great episodes of Alias. I wish he got to write Anya in this arc, because he wrote her so well. Bring Anya back! I'm still not very impressed with Georges variant cover, I think he focuses to much on the characters eyes and neglects all the other facial features, so it ends up being a blank face with big eyes.

I've just got into Buffy comics since Season 8 and was wondering if this above is from another comic or is it for this arc?

This artwork is from the original buffy series by cliff richards, an arc about a slayer that was sired by the master.

Willow looks tres cool dressed up as a geisha on that cover, if Oz comes back (yes please), he's gonna see what he's been missing.
And when are we going to get a proper love interest for Buffy?

Can't wait for this I think Xander will still have an issue to himself in this arc like in the first arc issue one was Buffy's issue 2 was Xander and Buffy's and Issue 3 was willows and now they are doing it in this one aswell. I really would prefer to see Oz in Buffy but I want Drusilla to return in Angel After The Fall.

I don't like this cover as much as I like A Beautiful Sunset, but it's still beats Jo Chen's work. Yes, I am in the minority that likes Jo Chen's work, but I've been finding it very boring as of late. I'm glad we're switching artists, and I think it should happen more often, maybe for every arc, have a new cover artist. A new artist brings a certain freshness to the comic.
Or maybe I'm just a big Jon fanboy?

Looks like Xander has boobs. :\
I ho they don't do cross breeds. Vampire Were-wolfs because urg i didn't like it when films did it. Like half breeds of vampires grr its just pointless nearly every vampire or werewolf film out these days is like it. Its Sukey.
I feel the Jon cover is more fadedly blurry then Chens. Cant wait for her to come back.

This issue sounds great! I would like to see Oz come back even if it is just for an arc. I think that Dru would be better suited in L.A. with Angel's Avengers but it would still be great to see her too. It seems that this is where The Count makes his return but who knows. He still owes Spike 11 pounds...XD

I (not the biggest fan of Oz) would love to see him return but I have to agree: Willow can't renounce her lesbianism b/c he's there. Also, I wonder if we'll ever find out more about the whole 'we're taking a break' thing with Kennedy. Not that I dislike her but I still think she isn't the best partner for Willow.
This would make the most sense for Oz to return, since he studied in Asia, and it's got wolves in this arc. The gang may know how to fight werewolves but it would help to have a wolf on their side. Then again, they never really could control Oz as a wolf, and he barely could himself. He may have killed Veruca but he would've eaten Willow (in a bad way) if he wasn't tranqued.

That may be why he is in Asia more training and such. It would make sense. He might have been studying with monks and heard about the "Wolf Pack" and come to check it out. Stranger things have happened to the Scoobies!

Both covers are very nice. But, I do miss Jo as well. I can only imagine what she could have done with the cover art set in Tokyo. I really like the Jeanty cover as well. I normally don't like his covers (I'm just not into the really cartoon look) but I think his sometimes have really interesting visuals, like this one and the cover with Willow and Xander putting the Buffy puzzle together (which I think was a great representation of the series as a whole - Buffy's friends helping her). I will be picking up both covers I think. I agree. It's most likely because I am far from a comic veteran, I've really just started getting into the whole scene because of Season Eight. I quickly learned that I'm what's called "a completionist," having collected every version of every issue. (Insane, I know. Even got the TPB and just ordered the HC the second I saw it was available.) And being able to see the full spectrum of the covers layed out in front of me, my eyes just get drawn to the painted covers more so than the "cartoon look" covers. Jo's covers are nothing short of amazing, and it's true that Jon Foster doesn't quite match up, but I still much prefer it over Georges'. Anyone have any insights?

You've been finding Jo's art "boring" as of late? Faith in the fire is boring? Are you INSANE? hahaha It's beautifully rendered, but her work is pretty static.

Is that werewolf wearing pants and a belt?! Just counted. 24 pages of content. I think the werewolf is wearing trousers and a belt. I think it's supposed to be morphing.

I wonder if "the Gate" means something more than just a fence. Could Tokyo be some center of mystical activity as well??
