This was one of my favorite issues yet! And the writing is so much tighter than in #12 (which was a rather good ish too).
Andrew was by far my favorite part of the thing. Okay, maybe not "favorite," but definitely the funniest. Though I do love his Storyteller-esque moments, this is his second this season if you count the Lando Calrissian spiel. I want some actual action Andrew!
Does anybody just absolutely love the panel of Willow where she references the HGOGA cookbook?

Thoughts: It was good! I liked it more than WaTG 1.
It seem's that the spell only affects whoever it hits, so now Joss can choose which slayers he wants to keep!
Maybe B will have to destroy the scythe. Hmm.
Also, I got Aiko and Satsu confused. Same with Drac and the Jap vamp.

Maybe B will have to destroy the scythe. Hmm. Also, I got Aiko and Satsu confused. Same with Drac and the Jap vamp. While it's probably true that the spell only works if it hits a slayer, in the final panel, there was a big ass crystal thing on top of a building. It looks almost identical to the small one that Aiko picked up, meaning I'm pretty sure that's what Toru meant when he said he was planning to take it global. Meaning, it probably has a pretty good range, and the bad news is Buffy's moving the entire Scotland team over. I did get Aiko and Satsu confused for a sec, but I guess the only difference is Aiko has slightly tanner skin, and wears purple lipstick. Oh well, don't have to worry about that confusion anymore... But as for destroying the Scythe, doubt it for now. I'm not sure how much of a spoiler this is, but I'd say go look at future covers if you haven't already.

I didn't get it either, until I read Whedonesque. This issue was just okay, in my opinion. I don't like seeing Xan-Man back in buttmonkey mode, I'm still not loving Batsu, or the fallout from Batsu, and though it was nice to finally get a mention of Anya, I don't buy Xander willingly hanging out with Drac. Dracula being back is a total waste of time, IMHO. And unfortunately, I don't feel as upset/worried about the Slayers losing their power as I maybe should. I think the Slayer is kind of like the Highlander--it's better when there's only one. Well, two. Buffy and Faith. These new people are just distractions...

I really enjoyed this issue! Dracula was hilarious! So freaking racist! But it's ok because it's Dracula. I really liked how they tied in Antique and words cannot DESCRIBE how happy I was that Anya was mentioned. I loved how Dracula gambled off his powers.
Part of me wanted to smack Buffy this issue. She was such a bitch to Satsu! I also think Satsu is right, they should keep some Slayers back at the castle. I have a feeling something bad is going to happen because of it. The Willow and Satsu part was great! So funny! And how cool is it that they have a military plane?
I expected the vamps were planning on someway to reverse the spell, but I didn't expect it to happen like that! I wonder how they got the Scythe to do that. Seems complicated too, do the Slayers have to hold that red thing and then have the Scythe hit it directly? Can't wait for it to be explained.
Also, kill Renee. Please. I was looking forward to her being a bigger part of this arc, but this issue and last, she's just been annoying!

I think the Slayer is kind of like the Highlander--it's better when there's only one. Well, two. Buffy and Faith. These new people are just distractions... I actually don't really give a toss about the new slayers. The ones mentioned by name are probably more important, but for the most part, the rest of them kinda just run about and do their jobs. What I DO like about this new situation is that it's whole new territory to explore old themes in. Like how Buffy's still alone. While I know many people just write it off as her just being whiny, I think that Cordelia's little speech in S1 kind of encapsulates how she feels: that everyone is so busy paying attention to what she's saying that no one's actually listening, or something along those lines. Sure she's got friends, but it's always come down to her making certain choices, and cutting loose when the time comes (rewatch "Conversations with Dead People" for a summary... it's an excellent Goddard-penned character study). So here she is, with 2000+ new girls who share her giift/curse/plight/etc, and she's still alone. And why is that? S8 has been a systematic isolation of Buffy from the core group. First Dawn got big and they stopped talking. Then Giles cannot be trusted. Then she has a minor falling apart with Willow. All's left is Xander. Should we set a timer on this one too? With all the new slayers, is Buffy any different? In a perfect world, Faith said it best: "You're not the one and only Chosen anymore. Just gotta live like a person. How's that feel?" But most people don't live in a castle with nearly 100 other girls, with an armory and high-tech and mystical security alarms. Even amongst her peers, she's still the general, because someone needs to lead, be it her, or the fun aunt who visits (Faith). But Buffy carries the Scythe. It's Buffy who's almost mythic. It's in Buffy's name that some are willing to die (The Chain). Of course she's different. But there's a whole new playground now to explore what makes the show still about her.

I really liked this issue, mainly because of the whole Xander-Dracula thing. Also was glad to see Andrew explain what the deal was with Antique. It's good to know for sure that it was before Season 8.

It's good to know for sure that it was before Season 8. I highly doubt if Andrew's description of the events leading to Antique were exact. It sounded like he was euphemising, and Xander was definitely under Dracula's thrall in Antique... so it wasn't exactly a "study abroad" thing. Who knows... I like to take Andrew with an entire canister of that stuff with the girl in a yellow dress and umbrella.

Yay! =) Although I didn't enjoy it on a whole like issue 12, a absolutley loved #13. And I'm hoping my wish of lots less slayers is going to come true! 50 would probably be ideal as they can concentrate on two squads where there can still be background characters. Oooo I'm so excited now!!

I liked this issue. Although it seemed really short for some reason.
I kinda wish they would zap all the slayers'--who aren't Buffy and Faith--powers away. They bore me. But on second thought the idea of a slayer army is pretty frakking cool.
I liked the little Andrew scene. And I'm proud of myself for knowing what a Skrull is. (Thank you Runaways!)
All in all, awesome. And currently beating the crap out of Angel: After The Fall.

Pretty good issue, but I wonder, how do Buffy and co get access to a massive military troop transport airplane? And who pilots it?

God, I didn't love this issue much, but it was okay. I think that the best scenes were the ones with Aiko, but I also liked the Buffy command central scene. The nitpick I have is Dracula. Was he meant to be in Buffy vs. Dracula for comedic value? I thought he was there to show Buffy her darker roots, and right now he seems totally out of character. Didn't like the Andrew scene too much, nor that Xander was under Drac's thrall. I will tell you one thing I did love though, and that was the art! Georges is a top notch artist who gets better and better each issue. His Buffy and Willow likenesses were spot on during this issue and I have to say, Michelle Madsen is far better at colouring than Dave Stewart. The whole reversing of the spell is intruiging and I cannot wait to see how it palys out. Bring on the preview for issue #14!

after reading this, my prediction is that they are going to be aiming the de-slayer-izer at Buffy, and Satsu is gonna jump in the way and take the 'bullet' for her. Then Buffy will kill the vampires and theyll try to get Satsu her power back but they wont and that will be the end of Satsu. This can be the massive hit they were talking about for issue 15

Does anybody just absolutely love the panel of Willow where she references the HGOGA cookbook? Yes! I thought that panel was perfect! Poor Aiko, she was set up as so badass that I loved her from the first scene where she whooped the kabuki demons. I should have known what was gonna happen to her, they made her too cool. Leaving Scotland HQ undefended seems like a big mistake - bad judgment on Buffy's part. I love Willow in this issue; she shows how well she understands Buffy and her creds as the best friend. Buffy's personality was non-existent in this episode. It reminds me of how she acted towards the end of Season 5 and midparts of Season 7. When the pressure is on, she closes off and becomes all-business. The 'weight of the world'. I think having a slayer army has made it worse for Buffy, as far as pressure goes. Before she was the chosen one, but she had her friends to support her. Now she's the chosen general and doesn't have time to worry about herself because she has to look out for 500 slayers. And her friends are busy supporting the army more than her. They're all supporting the mission and Buffy's not getting the emotional-social support she needs. I'm worried about Buffy breaking down like she's done before if something doesn't change. Kinda weird how Dawn was completely absent from this issue, but she gets a bigger part in the next one so...
