No. I'm speculating. I think it's likely that Willow, a gay woman, would probably have at some point in their friendship had a crush on Buffy. I mean look how awesome Buffy is? ^_^ And she's gorgeous too. hehe as much as i agree with Buffy being gorgeous and all and Willow would have had to be blind not to have a crush on her. Will didn't turn gay until there friendship has grown i don't think she would have seen Buffy like that at all. Xander had moved on for her by then too because they had all grown so close. I think it would be like Willow crushing on her sister which is ew.

It’s a publicity stunt to boost sales, imho.
Here are the numbers for the 2007 best sellers from the latest previews magazine (available for $4.50 at your local comic shop):
Buffy S8 #1 - 15th
Buffy S8 #2 - 29th
Buffy S8 #3 – 41st
Buffy S8 #4 – 54th
Buffy S8 #5 – 84th
Buffy S8 #6 – 91st
Anyone notice a trend? Issues 7, 8 and 9 were also released in 2007, but either didn’t make the top 100 or the sales numbers weren’t available in time to make this list.

I'm not sure how those figures are calculated, but I find it difficult to attribute this downtrend to more than simple number of issues sold. It definately could have to do with how long each particular comic has been out.

Best sellers in the top 100 list are based on actual sales of products invoiced to comic shops between January and December 2007. Each issue of Buffy s8 has arrived the first Wednesday of each month.
However, the first 4 issues had multiple editions so that could also be artificially inflating the numbers for that story line ("The Long Way Home"). The largest drop in sales was between issue#4 (54th) and issue 5 (84th).

I think a more representative data set would be the rank of each individual issue per month. Like top 25 in Jan, Feb, Mar, etc. Then you could attribute a downward trend.

It seems simple to do that. However, the initial story had multiple printings that were released in different weeks/months so it difficult to say if those sales were based on new readers or collectors picking up new covers.
Another issue is the fact that many comics don't trend downward in year long sales records, for instance, JLA issue #7 (13th in sales) sold better than issues #6 (32nd) and #8(33rd).
Obviously issue 6 of JLA was "technically" on the shelf for a month longer than #7 in 2007, but it didn't help it in sales for the year.

It was a good decision on Joss' part.
It was a selfish one on Buffy's. She knew how Satsu felt about her and used that as a chance for some sexy time fun. It does show growth that she was up front about using her partner this time, but it was still using in the end.

They haven't invented a comic book that doesn't see sales decline over the first year, I don't think (possible exception for miniseries, like "Gunslinger Born"). I think on average I read that most comics that fail, fail in the first nine issues? But it's like movie box office -- it's going to fall off every week, the question is just how much and how quickly.
I think, at least late last year, Season 8 looked like it was well ahead of the curve, not dropping at or faster than average.
I don't think it was a "marketing ploy" -- but I did say on Whedonesque that I thought it was *very* significant that this was the first storyline that had really opened the door for that question in the Buffyverse, which on its own is reason to wonder if it was executed as well as it might have been.

I really don't get the attitude you have towards me. Did I do something in the past that pissed you off or something? You're always rude to me on here. The relentless defense of Joss/Willow/Buffy/whoever's on your list that week doesn't help. I disagree with a lot of what you say, but it's your attitude that irritates me. You rarely back up your arguments; instead, you're condescending and hostile towards those who disagree with you. MB x

I honestly and unfortunately think that the Buffy/Satsu thing will make sales go down, not up. It changed a lot of fans opinions on Season 8. I haven't seen pure hatred here or at Whedonesque, but I went to IMDb to see what people thought, and I pretty much saw only 2 people who liked the idea, and a whole bunch of people who didn't.
This is some of the things I read:
-Joss is a sell out -Joss is milking Buffy for all she's worth -Joss is doing Season 8 just for the money -Joss doesn't care about the characters anymore -Joss is slowly ruining his own francise -Joss is lazy and doesn't take the time to explain things
And that all started when we found out Buffy slept with Satsu.

Okay I sse it as Buffy used Satsu to feel something nice as she said just like she was using Spike although probably in a nicer way as she has cut it off with Satsu right away before it got any further. Willow would not have had a crush on Buffy, I'm sure Xander and ANya had a brief talk about that when they see the Buffy bot... Xander says that Willow has went through alot of changes but doens't feel that way about Buffy. Also conisdering what Willow said to Kennedy in issue 10 i seriously doubt that Willow wouild feel jealous about what she saw. So not that one SHOULD be sorted out.

Here are my thoughts:
-Joss is a smart one, yes he is -Joss is the God of TV -Joss is doing Season 8 because he wants to, and we want it -Joss doesn't care about negative opinions because he knows where this is going, and it's gonna be good. -Joss is slowly ruining nothing -Joss is lazy and doesn't take the time to do every interview that is proposed to him because he is working on a comic, a tv show, and maybe Ripper.

Dark Tower/Gunslinger fell off with each issue, but brought in all of its issues (Seven total) inside the top 50 in sales the weakest coming in at 41st out of a 100 for 2007. What I find most interesting is the multiple printings of the original four issues. So many printings each with their own unique cover really could have artificially boosted the sales numbers of those issues just because collectors will buy multiple cover of the same issue. Beginning with issue #5 ("the Chain"), which had no multi-prints, we see a HUGE plunge in sales down into the mid 80s and issue 6 in the 90s. And as I posted before issues 7, 8, and 9 were also released in 2007, but failed to make the top 100.

OooOhhh maybe "Ripper" will now include Faith too?!
Giles/Faith on a mission, all the while Giles tells Faith of his youth and the lessons he learned...shown in flashbacks as well.

While I don't think that Season 8 will see a major commercial upturn or downturn because of this storyline, I do think it may have devalued the Buffy property overall in terms of it's cache to relaunch on TV or as a feature film.
I would *love* if Ripper were to go ahead as a canon Season 8 timeline Giles and Faith story -- with Eliza already "in house", could be doable.

I'm not going to launch into a big long rant here (I already did that in another thread) but I would just like to say "I love Joss." I will mail him a shiny nickle if I can find his address.

i dont like it. I dont see how it is going to enrich any of the story, etc. I mean, if it comes around and ends up being an important part or something, cool. I will change my tune, but I am getting annoyed with all the twists that last for one comic, seeming to be part of something bigger, then disappearing. I want some answers! It has been about a year now and I am just more confused!! It doesn't feel like Buffy to me. I hate the idea that I am losing faith, but I just read the comic and I am irked..........hopefully next month will change my mind...oh please joss, don't let us down.

Becuse if she is I found the actress she would have been based off of the look at least. www.imdb.com/media/rm3369439488/nm1280361Now I have no idea if this is true just figure it be interesting if it was that girl.
