I finished to watch the five full seasons of Angel and I think it really is an amazing show but I still like BTVS better. Nothing can beat BTVS.

I admit, seasons 1-4 of Angel were pretty hard for me to get through. But in my opinion, season 5 of Angel was the best season of either of the shows.

I wouldn't say Angel "sucked," but Buffy was a lot better, at least until S5 of Angel, but Buffy was off the air by then anyway. I think a lot of people liked Angel because there was less teenage angst, which is usually older people's problem with Buffy.

Well, I went with "No way, BtVS was so much more entertaining," as Angel is my least favorite of Joss' finished shows. But even though I definitely think that Buffy was the better show, I still loved Angel and think it had more than a few episodes that matched some of Buffy's best (mostly in season 5).

if i could add another option, it would be:
Writing on Angel was better, but Buffy had better characters, that would be what i choose...
I actually watched Angel before Buffy... i was bored at my grandmother's house during spring break '04 because, Hell, what is there to do in Pittsburgh anyway? and i watched the last few episodes of Season 5 and LOVED IT!! i immediately went to best buy and bought seasons 1-3... i didn't find out that it was a buffy spin off until late '05, when i started watching Buffy... haha even after seeing Sarah Michelle Gellar and Angel calling her "Buffy" i still didn't make the connectoin.

I always find it extremely weird that some people out there started watching Angel before even knowing about Buffy.
So snizapman6294, did you watch every season of Angel before switching to BTVS? What did you think? And which, eventually, do you think you liked better overall?

yes i did, i thought the writing on Angel was miles better, since the age of 11, before high shcool, i was sick of the high school bullshit put into shows and i felt like i had lived it 10000000000 times... I liked Angel if we're talking plots and writing... Buffy is better, however, if you want to connect with the characters and made a little more sense plot-wise, but as someone said in a post earlier:
Buffy is a show about growing up, and Angel is a show about being grown up.

I loved them both equally but it also kind of depends on what I'm watching at the time. And i also gotta say i loved season 5 of angel it had the perfect mix and drama and comedy, and nothing beats the spike/angel moments. :broody: :moody:

I went for "No way, BtVS was so much more entertaining" but in all honesty I loved Angel as well. Not quite as much as Buffy but still.....there should have been another option in between the one I chose and "Well yeah, I loved both shows, equally"

I love them both. There are times when I love BTVS more, but then there are times I love ATS more.

I voted for loving both shows equally (ok, so that's not entirely true, but I couldn't just leave Angel out in the cold). I do love Angel, but Buffy will always be my fave.

"No way, BTVS was so much more entertaining."
Honestly, I see both series as being beautifully flawed in different ways, but BTVS played such a major part in my childhood and adolescence, that to this day I still find it far more engaging than Angel. Both had problems at times with writing and plot direction. Personally, I find the Angel/Cordy/Connor plot line to be one of the weakest and most problematic arcs of any Whedon series. Both, I believe, had weak first seasons, even though they're hard to compare in terms of length, as BTVS Season 1 was much shorter, but Angel's first season had the amazing Faith arc and tighter writing and quality overall. (Sidenote: Most may disagree with me, but I'm quite sure that Dollhouse Season 1 was Whedon's finest first season, despite a muddy beginning, and Firefly ranks at a close second.)
If I had to rank the seasons, it would go something like:
1. BTVS Season 2 2. BTVS Season 3 3. Angel Season 5 4. Angel Season 3 5. BTVS Season 4 6. BTVS Season 5 7. Angel Season 2 8. BTVS Season 7 9. Angel Season 1 10. Angel Season 4/BTVS Season 6 11. BTVS Season 1
As another sidenote, I see BTVS as much more a series about the power of the individual, recognizing that power and using it to empower others, than I see it as a "growing pains" story, whereas Angel for me is a story about coming to term with your past and taking your place in a world that's against you. Both are stories of champions, but I see BTVS as far more directed towards issues of inequality, otherness, and community, and Angel towards justice, redemption, and society.
As far as the comics go, I really haven't liked where Angel has headed, and though I've had some isssues with the writing in both continuations, BTVS: Season Eight has been so much more exciting for me thematically. Twilight is by far Whedon's best villain in the Buffy/Angel verse, IMHO.

I liked both shows just about the same. It always seemed like when "Buffy" was having a bad run, "Angel" was having a good run and vice versa . Sure I didn't catch on to the craze until Season 5 of "Angel". It was the only season I got to watch on TV. But two summers ago I watched every episode of both shows in order and that felt like I was watching it throughout the run on TV.

Buffy and Angel are my two favorite shows. I wanna say equally but I may slightly lean toward Buffy... but only slightly.

I pretty much like both sows the same. Both shows had grate stories and excelent characters. and I loved that both shows did crossovers and made refresons to each other. I did like Btvs a litter better. But mostly because it had more light hearted moments and that I like the character of Buffy a lot more then Angel.

I chose both the same, but I do love Buffy just a tad more than Angel. Always have, always will.
