Andrew is obviously gay! Maybe Xander should get Willow to "Gay me up, lets gay!" and then we could have Xandrew (-:
I always thought of Lorne as a gay character too.

^^But Lorne is straight, or at least attracted to women. He's said so a few times.

Not really... he said he thinks cordy is a catch or something to that effect, I think the same and im gay! I think there are to many non-descript male characters in buffy. I understand Lorne because he's a demon but someone like Andrew... just out him already!

I think the deal with Andrew is that all the writers know he's gay, all the fans know he's gay, Heck, probably Buffy and the rest of them suspect Andrew's gay too! But they don't mention it because there just hasn't been a right moment to explore that avenue of Andrew's life. He is a real secondary character so there's no panels for him to talk.

Andrew has been pretty much de-gayed in Season 5 of Angel and Season 8 of Buffy. But who knows what the writers have in store for him?

How has Andrew been de-gayed in S8? He was playing strip poker with his Slayers, and was "bored stiff". He has a Spice Girls t-shirt. Stereotypes, sure, but if I had to bet money, I'd say that those things play up his gay side more than anything.

Not to mention in Angel season 5 when he says that Spikes been brought back 'more beautiful then ever' haha. Poor Andrew, I hope he gets a boyfriend...

I understand Lorne because he's a demon but someone like Andrew... just out him already! He said if Cordy was into green men or something he's go after her. I don't remember. But also in the Pylea arc he also said he was chattin it up with the ladies while the other Pylean men are out fighting. And the way he said it seemed like a way a guy intested in women would say it.

Omg, I was thinking the same thing!! I'd love to see Xander and Andrew together. Xander could mention something about how nearly all of his girlfriends have been b*tches (Cordy), demons (that chick from season 7 or something), or have died (Anya, Renée). GaGa~Vampyr

lol alexkrycek! I usually like to see gay characters who dont fit the sterotypes out there. But then i think, hey i'm not the manliest gay guy either! The more we lean towards Andrew being gay the more I want to read about him because there are not enough gay characters in comic books and if there are any, they never get focused on, they're always the secondary characters! I think that the Whedonverse has done a splendid job of telling lesbian stories and i think that they would do a sexy job of doing a gay story with two males. Andrew wouldn't need to even come out, for all the gay people out there think about how hard that is for a person to do realistically. I think if he just told one person in secret that would be enough for a while and then they can explore his idenity because one can be in such denial about it for a while, maybe he still is. It would be nice to see Andrew get a boyfriend, someone who can be like his Tara. It can be a new cast member (i say that like its a tv show ) and it can be like how Satsu came into the story through the comics and was able to develop her own fanbase.

The only way I could see Andrew ever coming out of the closet is if someone else helped him realise he was actually in it. Perhaps a male Kennedy; someone confidant and aggressive who would force him to acknowledge his own sexuality. Which might be a cute story actually. I don't think it would be a big angsty storyline about Andrew hating himself, so much as a comedic penny-dropping moment. "Huh, I'm gay? Guess that explains a lot. Cool, I'm so Neil Patrick Harris!"
An alternate, and perhaps more likely version, would be if maybe Xander brought it up during one of his trademark pep talks. He's good at that kind of stuff, and it would be a nice bookend/redemption to "Phases", where he was slightly homophobic towards Larry.

Honestly, I can't imagine Andrew dating anyone XD Me neither, which is why if he did, it would have to be with someone aggressive like Kennedy, who could do the driving.

I agree with view that there's not really any space for a new character, at least in Season 8. Perhaps in Season 9 with the new small scale cast?
But I do think it'd be interesting to follow a male gay character in the Buffyverse - perhaps a wiccan, you know, a minor role.
The only problem I have with Andrew being the verse's gay guy is that he doesn't really do much for stereotypes; like someone said earlier, gay stereotypes need to be broken down, hardcore.

I would love to see sterotypes be broken down so that more gays would be more comfortable exploring their sexuality without feeling that they'll end up being less or more of anything. But i think at the same time, nobody would want to make a flamboyant gay male feel bad about himself because he just conforms to ignorant perspectives. Everybody deserves to feel good about who they are. You know what would be funny? If Andrew suspects he's gay and then it turns out that he isn't, and that the gay guy is someone completly unexpected like Giles lol It would be like that episode in season seven when Dawn thought that she was a potential when really it was another girl and Dawn just had to deal with the fact that even though she didn't have special abilities...she was still worth something.

If Andrew suspects he's gay and then it turns out that he isn't, and that the gay guy is someone completly unexpected like Giles lol IMO, Giles and Ethan were more than just friends back in the day. ;) As for Andrew, I think there have been a lot more instances to suggest he's straight than there are for Lorne. He wanted a Warren to create a robot Christina Ricci for him, a Robo-Ricci, if you will. There was also the time where he went out with a few women in Italy. I recognize the writers are having fun with his sexuality (or lack there of) and the stereotypes he falls into, but I'm not jumping on the "Andrew is gay!!!" band wagon.

I think it's about time for a strong gay male character. The problem I have with Andrew being that guy is that Joss could do much better. Andrew is a stereotype, and honestly still not a character I want to see around.

I don't think Andrew is that stereotypical. He's not Kurt from Glee, he's a slightly camp three dimensional character whose sexuality is pretty irrelevant, to be honest. He's defined far more by his immaturity and geeky charm than being gay, which is why I don't think it's even neccessary to out him. It's true that some of the clues to his sexuality are stereotypes but that's part of the joke; if he was closeted and completely straight-acting, it wouldn't be funny.
Plus the thing to remember is that some stereotypes are true. Andrew's sexuality was born out of the fact that Joss considered Tom Lenk "fey"; the actor behaves that way naturally, he's not mincing it up for the role. I don't think gay characters always need to be "straightened" up, camp people deserve representation too because they do exist.
I think Andrew has enough depth and unique character traits to distinguish him from the "gay stereotype" blueprint. For one thing, most TV gays are more interested in fashion and sex than Star Wars and comic books. Which is sad, because there are a lot of gay sci fi geeks out there.
