Sorry that this isn't really buffy season 8 news but Joss announced at Comic Con that he is in talks with Anthony Stewart Head and the BBC about a 90 min tv movie next year about the character of Rupert Giles in pre- buffy days as his counterpart Ripper. I hope this happens as it shows that Buffy is still going strong and also it brings Buffyverse back to our TV screens. I hope we see some buffyverse vamps... I know I'm from Briton myself but I hope this program is kept up to American standards as I really dislike British Sci- Fi like Doctor Who which I think is extremely corny and cheaply made which I guess is kinda the point but still...

Ahh! How exciting! That would be awesome! I had a feeling after reading that interview with Anthony recently as he mentioned talking to Joss about that. Hopefully it happens!

If it takes part in his Ripper days than none of the Buffy cast members will be in it except for a possible appearance by Ethan Rayne and later Quentin Travers. He hadn't met anyone from the States before leaving England so it wouldn't make sense for them to guest star. As for him being older they can do the same as they did with the episode "The Dark Age" and give him a wig or makeup to make him look younger. Also it could take place 3 or 4 years before he traveled to Sunnydale without giving him a wig or a lot of makeup.

This makes me so happy! Ripper has such an interesting background with both of his parents being watchers, then his father becoming a vampire and having killed his vamp dad! I wonder if they will work that into the movie somehow. Can't wait!

Yes, I can't remember if it was in one of the books or mentioned on the show but either way it's part of his history, so very interesting. If it was in the books then it isn't considered part of the Buffyverse canon, but that would be an interesting storyline. |

It needs approval to go into the books (just ask any of the Buffy/Angel authors) so it's about as close to canon as you can get if it was in one of the books. Like I said, either way, it's a really interesting background. I'm just so happy for a Ripper movie, I love Giles!

If I remember correctly, it was Sins of the Father, it turned out that it was just a demon posing as Giles's vampire dad.

As far as things being canon, they aren't canon in my book unless it has Joss' stamp of approval as being canon. To me, the only canon Buffyverse sources are : BUFFY the tv show, ANGEL the tv show, and the Buffy season 8 comics. Everything else is just stuff to make money, keep fans happy, etc. There are a lot of mythology messups and stuff doesn't make sense. It's best to just keep the main things canon. Exactly! |

No prob and no arguments, you're entitled to envisage the Buffy/Angel verse the way you want and I'm entitled to envision it the way I want  I'm still so happy about this because the comics just aren't doing it for me. I'm buying and reading and liking them ok but they're just too comic-y for my taste and nothing can compare to tv/movie and a fleshed out novel in my opinion. Happy that so many are enjoying the comics more than me though. Go Ripper! |

I really cant wait. I hope it happens. It would be nice to see the Buffy/Verse back on t.v even if its only for a one of episode. I'm glad BBC are backing this up since they where the ones airing the final few seasons of Buffy. And they have had a few good t.v programs lately. And whats wrong with DrWho Bennyboi it is a classic  |

I just mean that the budget for buffy is much more than Doctor Who and that I hope it keeps to the standards of Buffy... I know the whole idea of Doctor Who is that they haven't got a huge budget and that the monsters look fake and the special effects aren't that great...sorry if this offended fans of the show
