People would have more then likely said he was a bad actor such. I liked the character Riley. I don't see why people hated him. What did he do that was so wrong?

Save your "We's" lol; I like the Riley character.
I'd take it personally too if I was playing a perfectly decent character week in, week out who gets hated on.

I can quite imagine people saying he was a bad actor, and a lot more 'no way his not as HOTT az ~*AnGeL*~ <333'.
I like him. He's no great actor, but he does the job, and I think Riley is interesting character. I like where he goes in season five, and the way they just completely skewer his entire world view at every turn in season four.
And he's totally hotter than Angel.

Great find mikey!
I will say that I remember being on buffy-boards when Riley was on, people hated him and they baseh Marc for his acting ability. They used to say he was rigid, or too much like a "soap" actor. I disagreed.
Actually I like Riley now...when before I didn't really. I think the only stupid thing he ever did was to let vampires bite him "for the thrill". I didn't agree with that, nor do I like his whiney-ness about not getting enough of the Buffster's attention. He was a good boyfriend for Buffy, although she didn't realize it till it was too late. I hope we see him again sometime in the comic.
DB & Marc are both good-looking but in different ways. DB has more of that dark, sexual thing. Marc is like all-American down home buff frat boy. lol!!

I never hated Riley but he wasn't my favorite character. He played his part in the story and did a good job. I recently re-watched season four and I actually liked it better than I did when it originally aired.
I hope his feelings weren't hurt too badly. He was a part of something amazing and that must feel good.

Up until recently I really hated Riley. But I was watching season 5 again lately and found myself feeling bad for him and liking him. I even looked at Buffy and thought "You idiot. He loves you and you don't even see him." I watched the end of Into the Woods hoping that maybe this time Buffy would make it to the helicopter. Believe me, no one was as shocked by me feeling that way then... well me.

I honestly did not enjoy Riley, but I really was just bored with the way he was written. I don't think Marc Blucas was a bad actor, and I can't say I really thought he was a good actor either. In the spectacular cast of Buffy, he was one of the weaker actors, even if he was still pretty good. In all fairness, though, I don't think I've ever seen him in anything else, so my dislike of the character may have tainted my judgement of his actual acting skills.
On a side note, today is his 36th birthday. Happy birthday, Marc.

I didn't like Riley, but I thought the acting was great and that the guy who played him was hot.

i don;t think Marc got to really shine in the riley role. People hated the character and of course then bashed his acting. The all american good boy was the character. And i can see people bashing him for playing that, not understanding that it is the way the character was written. Has anyone seen prey for rock n roll? WOW! Marc shined and looked very nice! I go for the bad boy...heheh spike.. and Marc has tattoos and such. It's fantastic. and he definitely shows that he is a great actor. people are immature and bash the actor, not the character. but not us great fans!

I really like the character of Riley. He didn't do anything wrong until season 5 with the vamp biting thing, which he was driven too because he felt neglected. I'm not saying Buffy drove him there on purpose, she didn't realise, but eventaully it was too late when she realised how much she loved him and needed him. I also don't think it's fair for those people to have hated Marc's acting skills or him personally just because he took over Angel's role as Buffy's boyfriend. I think he's a great actor!

I don't think that was Buffy's fault. She had other, more important things going on than how Riley felt.
I think the whole military theme in season 4 killed me on Riley. Not really my genre, and that seemed to be what he was about.

I think the "stable, non vampire boyfriend" was a good idea, but I really would have preferred it if Riley had been more of a psychology student and less of a lame secret agent. The psychological component of season 4, what with Maggie Walsh's psychology lectures tying into the stories and stuff, was way more interesting than the Initiative shenanigans.

It was definately hard to find the character of Riley likeable. After angel's man-liness (yes, irony there I know), Riley was really a bit of a wimp. Plus Marc just wasnt as sexalicious....
but I agree, there is nothing personal against marc. altho i might suggest if he didnt want the backlash against his character, he chose a bad role to audition for.... did he never watch buffy pre- season 4?!?!:S

I feel bad for Riley, but I still don't like him. Sorry, but he was just sort of a bland character to me. Marc Blucus (I think his name was...) was just fine as Riley, he was good, but still, Riley was just sort of... blech.

He was like a ken doll- always shaven and nothing to say!

I thought Marc was a fine actor and played the character well. I didn't care much for Riley in season 4 but that was mainly b/c he came along with the Initiative, which was totally bleh for me. In season 5 he comes more into his own. One thing I liked was the way he opened up to Xander about Buffy not loving him, that was when I kinda started to empathize with Riley.
