We could have had a completely different cast of actors and the show might have been even better or maybe it would have been less successful. We'll never know. But let's be honest here, the cast never was realistic, especially Buffy. We had this group of teenagers who were supposed to be outsiders, rejected by the rest of the school but they were all extremely good-looking (except Willow maybe she did look like a super nerd during a few seasons until she finally blossomed). I mean come on, those people would have never been outsiders in real life. They would have been the popular ones, especially Buffy.

I'm glad they cast Amber Benson as Tara, for example, rather than the "hot girl" Joss initally had in mind (Amber's not that fat though...). Interesting, where'd you get that info?

Yeah can we have the name of the hot girl Joss had in mind for Tara?

It was on the season four DVD special features (commentary for "Hush" maybe?) where they talked about how Joss envisioned Tara as more conventionally beautiful, and considered Amber Benson too "volumptous" for the role. I believe it was Marti Noxon who talked him into it. They didn't have another actress in mind as far as I know, I just meant that Joss imagined her as a "hot girl". We could have had a completely different cast of actors and the show might have been even better or maybe it would have been less successful. We'll never know. But let's be honest here, the cast never was realistic, especially Buffy. I mean come on, those people would have never been outsiders in real life. They would have been the popular ones, especially Buffy. Lol, Joss admits that in the commentary for "WttH". He acknowledges that Nicholas Brendon is way too good looking to play the nerdy guy. He does say, though, that he avoided the cliched "supermodel in horn rim glasses" route for Willow, which is fair.

Personally i think alot of people have talked a load of BULL S**T on this subject. Alot of you say "Oh i don't like her because she's fat" well I'm sorry but that's crap. Why bring up that shes fat then?? Its obvs you think she shouldn't have played Willow because well lets face it she's over weight, no wounder the library was so big!! When you sit there typing that it's because she couldn't act or anything like that it's rubbish none of them were the best actors when they started. Nic wasn't for sure. He had never really done anything like Buffy before the show. Yes she wasn't the best actress but i wouldn't have minded if we had had a Willow like that.
And as for the 'as if they would be out casts in real life crap' Do you guys watch the show??? It's now how they look that makes them outcasts it's the personally of them. Like Xander would have a chance in the cool gang or what not and Buffy chose not to be in the Cordy group. Willow well it speaks for its self [more so with the old fat one]

Have you gone through high school yet? Buffy could totally have been a Cordy and Xander could have been the hunk that all the chicks drool about. Instead they came up with the excuse that Buffy was too busy chasing vampires and that she was branded a freak and they made Xander too goofy to be cool.

Instead they came up with the excuse that Buffy was too busy chasing vampires and that she was branded a freak and they made Xander too goofy to be cool. Been through school and college. And i strongly disagree. Buffy chose to not be another Cordy, she was a Cordy back in Harm. Xander, just because he's cute doesn't mean he would be a popular and all. He doesn't do sports, he's a geek and so forth. How would be a jock just because he's good looking? "They made Xander too goofy to be cool" Thats the whole point. Looks are not the only things that make popular people. Lots of other factors come into it.

Some one back me up.... O.o now i feel like i'm going back 4 years to school
I'm sorry but just because some one looks pretty, hot etc it does not mean they are auto cool and in with the populars. Thats crazy talk. It's not even really a big factor some of the populars at my school were dog ugly really looked like they had been hit by a piece of metal.
A person could look pretty but chose not to be friends with populars for a number of reasons or they could have interests that the populars would make fun of.
Being pretty or anything does not make you popular i don't know what kinda place you went to school but that's not how it works. Your logic to this has many holes.

Ok, the whole back me up thing was pretty lame. I can defend myself without the help of others. I'm all grown up now.
Ugly people who are popular through middle school and high school most of the time are bullies.
If you're not good looking, if you're not a bully, you still have a 13% chance of being popular but you really need to have something extraordinary going for ya, money maybe. I don't know. Hey, this is not a perfect world. Fortunately enough, things change when you go to College. You just have to wait for people to be more mature.
I'm WAY happier with my life now that I was back in junior high school for example. But I also think that I'm way more good looking now, so I don't know, I guess I'm not as insecure as I used to be, it's definitely a plus. Life is unfair anyway.

Ok let's agree on our disagreement. But I also see what you're saying. We can be good buddies now that we worked this out.

No. Riff Reagan to me was not fat. I have seen fat. People riding around in the motorized shopping carts at Walmart because they weigh 700 lbs., now that's fat. Riff Reagan was cardboard, that was Riff Reagan's problem. You can sit there and say it all you like, why you think I'm saying such and such, but I'm gonna tell you straight up: she was boring.

I love the original Flutie though. He is Ned rierson from groundhogs day and Bob Bishop from Heroes Agreed! I wish they had kept him on in that role.

Looks are entirely superficial and people who judge others on looks alone are pretty vain and superficial.

Looks are entirely superficial and people who judge others on looks alone are pretty vain and superficial. While I agree with the above and follow it when applied to reality, I've been tainted too much by years of watching television. If there is a female lead in a show, it has a lot more chance of pulling me in if i think that she's sexy - call me shallow if you like, but it's true.

Amazingly, how awoman or guy looks is the last thing that interests me, other than looking right for the part. If I am only drawn to a show, or am more drawn to a show, because of how attractive a woman is, then the show has failed and I stop watching.

Don't get me wrong - I won't watch a show purely because there's a hot mama-yama in it, but I'd probably ease into the watching of it on a weekly basis more readily if I like the lead female.
