I started watching when it first aired on BBC2. I remembers seeing the trailers for it and thinking it looked really cool, so I recorded the first episode while watching it and was so glad I did, because I loved it! Then I became 'Buffy girl' to everyone, buying everything, talking about it all the time, etc. I must have been 13 or 14 at the time. Ahh, yes. High School I was always referred to as "Nick, that one kid whos obsessed with Buffy."

Ahh, yes. High School I was always referred to as "Nick, that one kid whos obsessed with Buffy." Hee cool. I wish I'd gone to school with other Buffy obsessed people. I never minded being called Buffy girl though. Made me feel like the biggest fan. ;D

Same here. I literally thought that I was addicted to Buffy at one point. I literally started to shake like I was going through withdrawls when I didnt watch it.

Been a part of it from the start, was the highlight of my week no matter what!? id tape every episode and watch that episode repeatedly until the next new one aired. Addicted? You could say that Ahh Buffy, i just could not imagine my life without you. Much to my sisters dismay i achieved the honour of naming our dog and of coarse i gave her the most awsome title ever, Buffy

I became a fan during season 1 by watching FX reruns. Then bought all the DVD's from the UK, a region free DVD player and caught up so I could watch season 7 in real time.
Watching episode after episode is way better than waiting a week between episodes.

I'd watched the movie (in the theater no less) and enjoyed it for what it was, mostly just a silly movie. When I saw they were making it into a tv show I thought that was kind of funny but wasn't really very interested. One night (and on a sad note all of you that were watching it when you were 8 or 12 or what have you.......I was 19) I was going out with some friends and I had a little while before they came to pick me up so I was looking for something to kill time not something to really get into when I happened along "Lie to Me" and left a little before Spike came to kill everyone. I remember telling one of the guys that night "you know that Buffy show? it's not as bad as I thought it was going to be, I think I'm going to start watching it" Well.......I didn't. Things come up something else that I know I like is on, that sort of thing so I didn't see anything until.....and this is what I'm not sure of.....it was Becoming pt 1 and 2 back to back. I'm not sure if that was the way it originally aired or if it was a repeat later in the year. Then I was hooked. I started taping it every week and when The Watcher's Guide vol 1 came out I got that and "Watched" everything I'd missed until I finally got to see them on replay. I remember scrounging the net for a week to finally find a horrible quality cam taping of Earshot from Canada right after it aired there. Anyway that's my story.

Around Christmas, my friend who's pregnant was like "Tragic! I need someone to watch Buffy with. *gets handed a link to School Hard* This is Drusilla. Love her."
And I've been addicted ever since. Enough so that it actually alarms the aforementioned friend.

I started watching Buffy about seven years ago, because of my dad. We didn't never watch it on tv. He had borrowed the second season from one of his friends and at first I thought it was a "scary movie" (ha, I was seven or eight years old) But then I got really into it. And we bought the third season and we just started buying the seasons. I've been a big "Buffy-Nerd" ever since. It's been my favorite show for a long time (: And, Angel... I don't really remember. My dad bought the second season of the show and we watched it. I didn't watch all of the Angel episodes until the first of this year! And there for awhile I liked it better than I liked Buffy, because it's a lot different and I've seen Buffy so much

When did I become a fan? Let's talk about this. (ahahaha, someone's going to PM me one day with a fave Lindsey quote from Not Fade Away: "You get a little speechy, alright? I breeze out.") I didn't even know who Joss Whedon was until Summer of 2007, when I was exposed to Firefly by watching the whole series with a bunch of other people. Shortly thereafter, I was reading about Firefly and discovered that he was responsible for Buffy and Angel. "...'Kay, kinda odd but OK". I didn't really know much about the shows beyond the obvious about Buffy (since she'd been a cultural icon long before '07). And then came Hulu. When I was browsing Hulu, I noticed that Buffy S1 and 2 and Angel S1 were both online for complete viewing. (As of my writing this, Buffy now has S3 available as well.) I figured that, if I loved Firefly as much, maybe I'd enjoy Buffy. So I started going through them. The premise was neat, and I enjoyed many of the first season episodes, but the moment that got me is in 1x12 "Prophecy Girl" when Buffy, having been revived by Xander and Angel and now facing the Master, says "I may be dead, but I'm still pretty." I have no idea what it was about that line, but it was enough to convince me to watch Season Two, which of course was soooo rewarding (especially since I'd put early stock in Buffy/Angel, so I cried many times during S2 ) and then I was hooked.

Someone recommended it to me when I was about 14, and I bought the first season. I though it was ok, but didn't really get hooked, so I didn't bother to buy more seasons. Then about a year later, I bought season 2 because... well, I don't really remember why, but I did. And it was amazing, so I bought all the seasons and became an obsessed fan, which I still am.

It's been a little over a year since I finished watching the series for the first time. A couple of my friends who are big Buffy fans had been bugging me to watch it for ages, but I refused (I was put off by the name, and didn't think I'd like the concept). 2007-8 I was living in France, with no internet connection and no TV service and there was a lot of downtime where I had nothing much to do. So I bought DVD boxsets... and Firefly happened to be one of them (didn't know at that point that BtVS and Firefly were both Joss Whedon shows). So I watched Firefly, loved it, told my two friends this and they were like, "you need to watch Buffy now." Well, Firefly had convinced me that anything by Joss would be worth taking a look at... so I bought season 1 to take back with me for the summer term in France... and got hooked. Then there were several journeys back and forth between LeClerc and Fnac frantically hunting down seasons 2-7. My friends were all with the "I told you so's!" and now I'm an even bigger Buffy fan than they are In some ways I wish I'd watched it when it aired, but at the same time I'm glad I didn't. I don't think I'd have had the same appreciation for it back then as I do now.

I think I remember watching an ep during the first or second season and thinking this was so stupid.
But then a few years later I watched an ep when it went into syndication. Thats where I got hooked. Fan ever since.

Hellbound Hyperion, my story is exactly like yours.
Though I did watch the occasional episodes during BtVS's original run, just because I thought SMG was very cute.

Um, weird story, I became a fan halfway through season 1 some time in '97 or '98 when someone turned on Buffy in church. (I know, weird huh? Watching a show about vampires in church!?! Kind of unorthodoxy...) and it was the episode where Buffy tries out for the cheerleading squad, and I just thought, "Wow, this show kicks so much ass!" I've been hooked since. I watched it all through high school, and then went off to college and missed the last two seasons, which I am only now dutifully going through!
Like many of you, I am addicted. Contemplating reading the comic after I finish season 7.... Anyone know if it's any good?

wow. i got into buffy in late 2003 when the show ended which was kinda a late start. lol. my parents showed it to me, the first episode i watched was season 3 "homecoming". i said it wasn't the best show, but then again i was in 4th grade......then i watched a few more episodes including "Hush", "Fear Itself" & "WTTH". and then i was oppsessed. i started to collecting the toys, the first figure i got was Deluxe grad faith, which broke and i bought a new one recently. im 15 now so it's a little different then when i was in 4th grade. i have wathced all the episodes, have all the S8 issues, and have a wide variety of mechandise, but i always look back at the first time i watched, and i really don't think i would be the same person today without buffy.......lol.

Just about 6 months ago. My one friend was always trying to get me into it but I was like " no that sounds dumb" (I had seen the movie a lot when I was a kid). Anyways I saw some of the episodes on Hulu and I figured what the hell. Within a week I was hooked. Now I own all the seasons, a t-shirt one of the books and have a painting I did myself of Buffy. I'd have to say I'm more of a fan then my friend who recommended it.
