So it's now confirmed that episode 13 will not air.
At first glance this seems like the death knell for the show, but if Fox was cancelling it why would they show the 4 next episodes but not the last one? Why not just pull the plug now?
Is it because episode 13 was made to wrap up the story in case the show didn't make it past season 1, but Fox now wants a second season and so doesn't want to end the season with a momentum-killer?
This is either an inexplicable bit of very bad news, or a bit of bizarre good news for the show.
Regardless, it looks like we won't get to see Felicia Day's performance, at least unless they release this ep as a DVD extra after the series ends.

I really don't understand FOX's thinking here. I'm leaning towards them canceling the show after Omega and having a "Never Before Seen" episode on the DVD so it makes more money, because it is listed on the DVD Press Release.
I really like your thinking about how it could possibly be good for a second season, but why not air an entire episode they paid to make? That makes no sense to me. I feel sick.

I really like your thinking about how it could possibly be good for a second season, Because if there's going to be a season 2, then season 1 needs to end with momentum... preferably a cliffhanger. But from what I've heard, #13 is more of an epilogue. Fox might feel #13 seems too much like a series wrap-up. Again... if they're cancelling the show, why hold back the finale and ONLY the finale? What a PR disaster that would be... the only interpretation would be that Fox is deliberately trying to antagonize and alienate Joss's fans, and that just doesn't sound like their MO recently. but why not air an entire episode they paid to make? That makes no sense to me. I feel sick. Well, they failed to air the last 3 episodes of Firefly. Felicia Day sent out a Twitter today that mentioned the show will be on the DVD... but just as an extra, maybe?

Felicia thinks Episode 12 will be aired as the Finale.

Yeah, don't think this can be good. FOX throwing away an episode they paid money to make is fishy. I think Dollhouse is done.

This has been an absolute PR disaster of FOX's part. From what I hear, they still haven't decided about the show yet and are waiting for a few more weeks of Nielsen data. Their press release however, completely screws everything up. Now it is all over the Internet that the show has been cancelled, which will definitely affect the ratings in some shape or form. Even if this news just causes them to drop by 1%, it's a huge mistake on their part.
Absolutely ridiculous.

Networks constantly throw away episodes they paid to make.
This is more an indication of Fox's PR incompetence than proof that the show is cancelled.

This can be construed in two ways, that they aren't airing Epitaph One as the season finale and it is definite from FOX's perspective that the show will not be renewed OR that Epitaph One worked as a SERIES finale and not a SEASON finale and by not airing it as S1 finale they are preserving the show and setting it up for a successful second season. I'm on the latter boat, though I know it's depressingly optimistic. Do you mean somethingawful.com ?

And like Wyn said, I'm reading on a few sites where people are convinced it's already cancelled. I guess we just have to wait, but I'm expecting heartbreak.

There's just no way this makes sense if it's an indication the show is dead. Why would they air #9 - #12 and then just pull the rug out?

A blogger (Alan Sepinwall, TV critic of The Star-Ledger) just broke everything down: sepinwall.blogspot.com/2009/04/dollhouse-13th14th-episode-in-limbo.htmlApparently, FOX considers the original pilot part of the 13 episode deal they originally struck with Joss. So they are not obligated to show "Epitaph One," per the original agreement. FOX hasn't made a decision on the show yet, like I said earlier, and won't make one until Upfront week in May. So somewhat good news, although we still don't know WHY they don't want to show the final episode. Most industry sources, like this blogger, seem to think it has to do with the content of the episode, and the fact that Prison Break's final episodes take up a lot of the schedule. This is all still one huge mess though.

That makes a lot of sense because the same thing is happening with Prison Break. The studio made two more episodes than FOX ordered, and those two will only be on the DVD. It's a pretty good guess that the same thing is happening with Dollhouse.
But then again, Prison Break isn't coming back...

ohemgee I am so frustrated. FOX seems to be screwing up all their shows, with big exception to AI. Bones has been bumped so many times I have stopped trying to watch it live.

What? Felicia Day is on the 13th episode?!? I had no idea... After finally discovering/watching the Guild last week, I've come to love her work so much, and having her on the dollhouse, man that's fantastic! But now I'm sad, bacause Fox won't air it! Arght.

Basically the bottom line is:
FOX won't be airing 'Epitaph One' (as of right now), but Dollhouse is definitely NOT cancelled yet. That won't be decided until May upfronts.
I am O.K. with this for now, just as long as the show is technically still alive. What a horrible failure from FOX's PR department though. Ridiculous.

I don't know what to think. FOX has made a big mess. Even though I've been readying myself for a cancellation, I don't know how I'll deal if it actually happens.
