if the freaking Anderson lady really WAS a fan, why not do a FRAY movie... then you have a whole new idea to play with and the general public is all about future scifi meets vampires mix? Come on. i 100% agree. I would totally rather see something like Fray instead of the Buffy remake. I think Buffy fans, and even new fans alone would be head of heals if they did something like that instead....and im sure Joss would love to come along for the ride. im still 50/50 on the remake but my views are slowly converting to not wanting them to ruin Buffy forever....that's my biggest fear is to see Buffy's name dragged in the mud because of this.

I think if Joss were to get an advance version of the script, and give some sort of approval, then I would be very much okay with this.
The only thing in recent times I can think of are the Harry Potter films. JK didn't write or direct or anything did she? I'm not sure, but I don't think she did. But I did see that she visited the sets, and gave her input on casting and stuff. If Joss were to have that type of influence I would be happy with that. Don't flay me.
I don't really want the re-boot because I think the show is a great beginning and end. But let's not forget that Sarah is not the first Buffy, and not she will not be the last one either.
To me, this means that ultimately Buffy the Vampire Slayer will grow and become something bigger, more than an amazing show, and reach new people. The show and it's continuity will continue for years. There isn't anything we can do as fans about the reboot except allow this to ruin our days, because it looks like this will happen whether we accept it or not. So I am choosing to just be optimistic, and hope for the best. I love Buffy. It shaped my youth, and it plays a role in my daily life, with this site! So I will see this movie. And I don't really care whether or not I am a Joss purist. Just because I own everything he's ever done doesn't mean I have to make myself hate the reboot. Hell, it might just turn out amazing!
If the people behind the reboot really want to do something great, and feel inspired to do so, why not just wait and see? It's not very related, but I happen to like Batman Begins and the rebooted Star Trek, and I am always quick to notice the inaccuracies in the film stories versus "what really happened in the show/comic". But it doesn't make those films wrong or terrible. It makes them what they are, a mostly diluted version of what they are based on...like most movies are! Interview with a Vampire was not as good as the book. Neither are the Harry Potter films.
This is a Buffy forum, not a Joss forum. So I hope that if that time comes, it will not turn into a huge war of superiority where members have to feel wrong for being "pro-reboot". I'm sad that Joss 99% won't be involved. I wish it were a continuation with the same cast. But it's not going to be.

^^Nicely said CBG, I agree with lots of what you have said.
I also agree with whoever mentioned a Fray movie. Now THAT would have been awesome and something I would love to see. She is an amazing character who deserves her time to shine on the screen and I would definitely go and see it.

It sounds like the consensus opinion in the fandom is "I really hate the idea of a Jossless reboot, and I will be first in line to see it the day it opens." Which, as far as Warner Bros. and the Kuzuis are concerned, is WIN all the way. So this will get made, and there will be a new Buffy in town... way glitzier and fancier and big-budget than the old one. And people like me will be taking care of our now out-of-print Buffy TV DVD's, and crying in our beers along with the fans of the original "Battlestar Galactica."

^ I feel like I would have no right to criticise it unless I actually watch it. Like the Donnie Darko sequel, I watched it so that my critisisms wouldn't be completely without ground. Which is why I don't tend to say much about Twilight/Eclipse etc, I've not read the books or seen the films so I'm not gonna say anything other than what I've heard of it isn't good. The idea of a Jossless reboot makes me angry, so I will see it and complain about it.

What's wrong with the new BSG? I really liked it... Exactly. And if everybody likes the Nuffy movie, that will become the new Buffy, and replace Joss's version as far as all new fans are concerned.

What's wrong with the new BSG? I really liked it... Exactly. And if everybody likes the Nuffy movie, that will become the new Buffy, and replace Joss's version as far as all new fans are concerned. A) I highly doubt it. Look at the fan outrage everywhere, way more fans of the show are dreading this movie than looking forward to it. Even if it is amazing I don't think a lot of the fans of the show will enjoy it due to the fact it's different from the television. B) Does one have to replace the other? Look at the new Star Trek movie or the (seemingly) hundreds of comic book adaptations, can't fans like both separately and not have to replace one with the other? I know tons of people that consider Batman their favourite comic book character as well as many of his comic book arcs yet still really enjoy Nolan's Batman. They don't really rank them either, they're separate entities. You don't need to rank them into a hierarchy, you can like elements of one more than other, but still appreciate the other. ----- I was wondering who are some actors that people could see taking over the mantle of Buffy? I love Sarah Michelle Gellar and for me she will ALWAYS be the 'true' Buffy, no matter who they cast, but I highly doubt she'll be involved in this and I'm betting they'll be aiming for a younger actress. I've been hearing a lot of suggestions of Amanda Seyfried. And while Amanda is one of my favourite actresses at the moment I wouldn't want her in the role. And it sounds bad because it's for superficial reasons, but she's more voluptuous, curvy, whereas I've always pictured Buffy as a waif-ish figure. I just can't fit her into the role, but I wouldn't be against it because I think she's a damn good actress with a lot of range (watch Mean Girls and then Chloe, she's great at both comedy and drama, the two characters she plays are so different). Personally my choice for the role would be Katie Cassidy. I know she hasn't done a lot of movies but she's a pretty good actress in the roles I've seen her in and is pretty good at playing a touch bitca. Plus they said it wouldn't be high school Buffy which makes me think it'd be a bit older, like college age, and I think she would fit in to that amazingly. I wanted to vouch for Kristen Bell cause she's pretty much my favourite actress and she's blonde and tiny. Butttt the more I thought about it the more trouble I had picturing her in the role. Who are some other actresses that you feel would fit into the role? And if we're lucky we'll be getting Willow and Xander, feel free to cast those too!

Willow and Xander definitely won't be in the movie. They were created for the TV series, which the people making this movie have no rights to. They can only use characters from the 1992 movie, and new characters. They can't even use Sunnydale.

It's weird to think of Buffy without her buds. I hope they don't go lame action heroine/independent woman against the world route. That seems like the easy answer and they should really strive to in some way capture the feeling of the television show.

Personally I'm excited! It's going to be a fresh breath of air for our favorite franchise. I'd rather have a Joss-less reboot and introduce new stories, whether they be canon or not, than have nothing except the TV series.
I started watching the series because I loved the movie (campy and silly as it was! <3). It's nothing to protest, fear, or get angry about. It's simply another person's view on the story. And can you blame them? Buffy is a huge franchise from books to RPGs and figures to collectible place sets. I'm sure the DVDs were lucrative, considering they've released the standard seasons 3 different times and a collection of all seven in a box set twice, and that's only in the US. The UK (if I'm not mistaken) also has a boxset and 2 different DVD packaging. Don't forget about the VHS tapes too. They had the seasons, best of's, etc. Buffy is a cash cow.
I'm going to keep an open mind. I can't wait for the movie re-boot. I can't wait to watch for the new characters, new actors, and new storylines. Woo!

I just think the main reason I'm so against this is because 1). The original storyline is STILL continuing with the comics and 2). I'd rather see an epic movie with the television cast.
I think it could be done really well and I hope it will since it probably is happening, but I'm still not crazy about the idea.

I'm very positive about the reboot, although I'm also nervous. I understand people freaking over Joss not being involved b/c that makes the chances of it sucking way higher.
This scriptwriter, if she is as big a buffy fan as she claims to be, better not piss all over the mythology of the original movie and the show.
When I first heard they were rebooting it, i figured they were sticking to the original movies story line, but just updating it-which was a cool idea in my opinion. Then I heard they were planning to make a trilogy of movies & that made me even more excited! The first movie would be just a reinterpretation of the original movie. The second and third movies could show what happened in between the original movie and the show. Then, the new movie would compliment the original movie & show.
Now I hear that it's going to be totally different than the 92 movie and the show? Now I'm nervous. What in the world could this writer Whit Anderson have thought up?? The only alternative story line I can imagine is if they explore the world shown in the season 6 episode 'Normal Again' where Buffy was in a mental institution. That has potential to be amazingly dark, violent, raw and intense. It would be a whole different dimension with lots of new character & story possibilities, but it'd still be buffy and actually compliment the show.
However dark it is & different it is from the original movie, they better not lose the valley girl motif in the beginning or it truly will just NOT be Buffy for me.
As for who will play Buffy, I'm not even a Harry Potter fan, but I feel like Emma Watson would make a great Buffy. She's the right age, has the right look & character quality- that balance of innocence/strength that Buffy needs. She would surely bring the same element of class to Buffy's character that SMG did. If they do go ahead and make it a trilogy, I kind of doubt Emma is going to be eager to get into that after making 8 Harry potter movies, but I'd still like to see her as Buffy & feel like she has the acting chops. It'd also be interesting to see her shed her british accent to sound like a valley girl. Amanda Seyfried may work as well, but she has enough going for her. I think I'd rather see an unknown actress inherit the role of Buffy. & Kristen Bell? No no no. EMMA all the way!!!

Okay, I just read the posts that the movie can't use anything from the series...
That's a recipe for disaster. If they can't even use the things that made Buffy Buffy, then this isn't a good idea. The first Buffy movie was one of the worst movies I've ever seen in my life. And it's badness has to do with a lot more than the acting...
