The original movie is not so bad. It has it's strengths- mainly the comedy. Kristy Swanson made a perfect Buffy (even if she was maybe a bit too butch at times). She delivered a lot of Buffy's lines pitch perfect. Every scene with Buffy, and her girlfriends is funny. The script is just as funny and witty as the show. Some great black comedy moments. It may not be 'citizen kane', but it isn't completely lacking in entertainment value. The worst parts of it are how the dramatic, horror aspects were not as serious & scary as they needed to be. The action/fighting sequences are mostly lame and it's embarrassingly dated at times. But this is all what makes it a cult classic today!

I thought the 1992 movie was your typical low-budget 2 1/2 star movie. I remember watching it, thinking Kristy Swanson was pretty hot, and Vamp Pee Wee Herman's death scene was kind of funny, and then pretty much putting it out of my mind. I was late coming into watching the TV series because I assumed it would just be like that movie, and that got a resounding "meh" from me.
Looking back and comparing the movie to the original script, I can say that just about everything that was good in the movie (apart from Kristy's legs) was due to the Joss parts that got left in.

I'm glad to see more talk about what this movie might be like, and more tolerance for an alternate version of Buffy. When the time comes, let's go see it, and then say what we think.
I'm very much in a minority on this issue. I never thought it would be otherwise. But I don't feel quite as isolated as I did before. One post in this thread suggested that anyone who supported the so-called Nuffy movie must've been ten or younger when the show was on the air. My! How old do you guys think I am, I wonder?
It occurred to me this morning to check my karma points. Apparently I only lost one karma point through this acrimonious exchange. I'm impressed. This is a pretty polite forum, thanks for your courtesy.

I don't really like Emma Watson and to be honest i'm 100% sure that she would say no if she was offered the role. Same for Amanda Seyfried, she would also say no. However, I really like Kristen Bell, but she's like 30 at the moment so i can't see her getting the role now.
When it's time to cast Buffy, it will be somebody who is not famous basically a unknown star, who's probably only had little success. Maybe that girl from Desperate Housewives who plays Julie, but i'm only guessing.

Similar here. I saw the movie when it first came out on video and thought it was rubbish. Still do. I nearly didn't watch the TV show because of it. It was only the great advance word of mouth and some early reviews I'd read that made me give TV Buffy a go when it first aired over here. And I was instantly hooked. I've no idea how much of Joss's script survived being Kazuid in the movie but it still amazes me to this day how lame the whole thing comes across. Mostly this is down to tone and the entire movie being treated as a joke. Also IMHO Swanson just didn't have the charisma and acting chops of Gellar. Anyway, my views on this new movie reboot are on record. It's just interesting reading on here others take on the Bufster: what works, what doesn't work, what makes her special etc. In my mind the original movie just didn't work. Period. And yet the TV show took the same idea and made it solid gold. There's a reason for that (Charles Roven and co. take note): Joss was in charge.

This is a Buffy forum, not a Joss forum. This doesn't reflect my views on this reboot at all (for those, read much earlier in the thread, and yes, those were back in the day when the Kuzuis were the ones in charge). But this statement... I think the fact that we have a separate board for every single one of Joss' shows, and continue to discuss the endeavors of both him, and his cast and crew over the years shows very clearly that this is a Joss-centric forum. The Buffyverse (yes, I use this term to encompass ANGEL too; same 'verse, despite chronological/canonical issues) is currently the most active, due to its comic book continuation. But a good number of us are also excited by news of any previously Whedon-affiliated alumni. Or news of Joss himself. Many of us gave V a try, merely because Morena Baccarin and Alan Tudyk were in it. Jed and Mo and Steven DeKnight on Spartacus? How do you think some of us even heard of the project? Felicia Day's The Guild? Being a Joss-centric forum doesn't necessarily mean we offer blind allegiance to the man. It just means that we're a forum that discusses his works, or works that may sometimes only be tangentially related to him. But we are clearly a Joss-forum. And there should be no shame in that. Some of us may only love one of his shows. We are Buffy fans. Or Angel fans. Or Browncoats. That's fine. This is the place to discuss your interests, just as much as it's the place for fans of Joss' works in general to chime in.

I just hope that when/if the Nuffy movie comes out, the discussion forum for it will be kept strictly separate from the one(s) for Joss's Buffy.

Do yo think that it should not be discussed here when it comes out? If the admins want to create a sub-forum to talk about it, that's their decision. I'll stay well away from it. I just don't want to hear about this movie all the time when I'm trying to discuss the real Buffy, and constantly have newbies butting in and talking about it as if it was canon.

Pat, I agree with a lot of what you have to say. While I am not over the moon about a Jossless reboot, I like the idea of Buffy living on. I think they could have waited another 10 years, but strike while the iron is hot and such.
I think a lot of people forget that above all else this is a business. Even Joss Whedon cares about money. It's nice to think that he does it all for us, but that's just not true.
I am really tired of seeing people bash Whit Anderson. She's just doing her job. Some people say she should have said no. Would you have said no? I wouldn't have. If they asked me to I'd be writing the crap out of this movie, if I knew how to write a movie, that is.

Been away for a bit... prepping for room-mate's wedding and all that (then the 4 day trip to the actual wedding), but having actually read some of the posts here... I will say that I'm NOT at all happy with the Whit Anderson bashing that happened here. Play the ball, and all that. Any more trash talking of the person (who no one really knows ANYTHING about in the first place), and I'll be going through my list of names and banning those not so nice ones. And yes, there is a list. I recognized some of the posts in Pat's blog post. Can even place names right next to them from memory. Yeah, I'm the Mod you NEVER want to cross.

Hah. That's something I've never understood about remakephobes... the remake may be shit but it won't change the original. My favourite film, the original Halloween, has weathered countless average-to-terrible sequels, not to mention the excruciating Rob Zombie remakes. And guess what? It's still regarded as one of the greatest horror films of all time. And as awful as some of them may be, I still kind of respect the later films as an interesting alternate take on a flawless standalone film.
Karma for that blog, Pat.

Do yo think that it should not be discussed here when it comes out? Since we are a Buffy forum, it will be getting it's own section in the new forum. And discussions are encouraged! But it will be separate from the Joss show. Since it is a separate entity, like Season 8 is.

Hmm... Never seen this site before. Is it trustworthy? If it is, good for him. I'm sure he has better things to do than to restart the story he is still trying to tell.

Since it is a separate entity, like Season 8 is. If there's still a "Whedonverse" section in the new forum, hopefully this movie won't be under it, since it's not part of the Whedonverse.

I was watching Big Time Rush earlier today. And in the ep they basically had this knock off Zac Efron making a vampire/Basketball movie. Now I have this bad feeling that Zac Efron will be in the new Buffy movie somehow.
I've been thinking though. If the new movie can only use elements from the movie... Is there any characters from the movie you wouldn't mind seeing in the new one?
I wouldn't mind Pike coming back as the love interest. After that though... basically all the other characters need a massive overhaul. Potential for good characters, but still.
