Pretty solid ratings for a Friday night premiere of a genre series, especially if one takes into account the fact that Friday night is a hard night to crack (and Dollhouse seems to have done, in light of the Fox percentages) and that this Friday was also the premiere of films like The International, Friday the 13th, among others.
Personally, I believe the next couple of episodes will remain a stable 4.5 - 5.2+ million until maybe the final episodes which will hopefully range in the high 5 to 6 million. Quite sad to see Terminator's ratings suffered however, as that is one series I've really been getting into.

4 million? That's good for a premiere, right? dollhouse got about the same ratings for FOX as America's Most Wanted last saturday. so the answer is no.... =( It's not the viewer numbers that matter here so much as the DEMO. Dollhouse came in second for adults 18-49 and 18-34 and here's the big deal, #1 for men which is a much coveted Demographic that's hard to get on a Friday night. So total viewers were low, but demographics were high. They didn't get as many people watching as CBS and ABC, but the people they *did* get counted for a lot.

My dream for the series it that it retains its viewers while slowly building up to an arch that has some major apeal. After gaining maybe a million viewers it moves to a weeknight in prime time (8 or 9 pm). I think the series could have some major apeal (think Alias) if more people knew about it. Fox did a good job with volume of advertising but not really content. I think that is why the audience was mostly male. The ads show nothing but hot girls kicking butt. Not to mention the plugs in Maxim and Rollingstone I think there is huge mass apeal potential if advertised right.

What do you mean #1? Like number one overall, or just for Friday ?

Bear in mind that this show is also going to have a *large* DVR audience and a *large* download audience, and those haven't been factored into the numbers yet. Once they are, Dollhouse will be a very solid 2nd place in its timeslot.

ughhh im sure if they didn't put it in the death slot, it would've done much better... does anyone know the dvr numbers? cuz lately, that's been deciding the future of shows.

I'm starting to get really, really pleased about how the show did last night. Most people seem to get stuck on the 4.71 million viewers, which, as many have said, FOX just doesn't care about. In the areas the network does care about, like the 18-49 demographic, which Dollhouse pulled in some serious numbers, the premiere was a huge success.
If FOX is happy, we should definitely be happy. Hopefully the demo's won't decrease and we will get a second season.

LMAO Spiked! You're so funny. ;D
More news from Whedonesque:
Now this isn't from an official source, but from someone who might know a bit about what's going on with FOX since he knows people there.

Hope it's true Emmie, as that would certainly qualify as great news. Seeing as Fringe is sadly on break until April, I definitely think it'd be a great chance for Dollhouse to appear at least once paired with Idol. Again, for a genre series on a hard night, it seems to have done fairly well.

I don't get why FOX didn't do that to begin with. Airing Ghost after Idol would gave the series a HUGE boost before moving the show to Friday. Sure, Ghost may not be the best episode, but it makes more sense then doing it in the middle of the season. I hope that news is true, though. If FOX is happy, I'm very happy.

Seeing as the episodes seem to be very stand-alone-ish, I can see why they would wait for a very strong episode to air after idol! It makes sense to place the best of the best in a great spot to attract the maximun number of viewers. Maybe a 2 parter during sweeps? The first part could be after idol on Wed and then concluded on Fri. That would be smart, imho.

Yeah, I see what you're saying. I think the sixth episode, Man on the Street, would be a good one. It's written by Joss and he's said that's really the story and mythology starts to take off.
I'm just praying the demo is still good next week.
