So we are lucky enough to have wonderful Q&A's with Dark Horse editor Scott Allie and I thought it'd be great to have an official place for us to discuss all the great tidbits he reveals. I've made this separate discussion thread in order to cut down on the confusion for people who arrive late and ask questions in the Q&A thread. Have you read the latest Q&A for the Tales one-shot? Willow one-shot this fall! The Whedon/Chen MDHP is now 3 pages. An original cast member is showing interest in working with Dark Horse and there's going to be an announcement in the future. I'm betting it's Seth Green showing interest. He's a huge comics guy, actually reads the Buffy comic and is certainly creative enough to come up with something.

Reposted from other thread...
Yeah, the casual mention of a Willow one-shot made me do a spit-take too. Wonder who will write it?
And... did he say it was very likely we'd get a Faith spinoff of some sort? Hm.
Really curious now as to what the deal will be with Amy and Warren.
I suspect the smaller cast for season 9 will be because so many main characters will be dead by then. Sorry to say.
Another controversial romance coming up. Xander/Dawn? Buffy/Satsu Part 2? Willow/Oz? Will Willow catch Kennedy in the act with Saga Vasuki?
And the "big secret announcement" about another cast member writing for the comics... could that have something to do with what he mentioned last month in response to my question about doing something with Felicia Day?

I hadn't thought of Felicia Day but maybe. OMG that'd be awesome. Why is Felicia Day so amazing?
Yeah, it was very casual how he brought the Willow one-shot up. So casual I was like "wait, were we supposed to already know this?"
I'm taking an excited viewpoint for the smaller cast for the future. More close and personal with the characters we love. But could it be that the reason season 9 is smaller is because there's no army of Slayers?
I think the controversial romance will probably be Xander and Dawn. It feels like it's going in that direction considering it appears like Xander and Dawn are maybe off on their own mission during the Retreat arc, a mission involving the submarine. And since they're the only characters without a magic attached to them, that'd make them able to move about more freely. And moving about more freely and just the two of them? I say hook-up.

I hadn't thought of Felicia Day but maybe. OMG that'd be awesome. Why is Felicia Day so amazing? I'd looooove to see her write a Vi one-shot. Yeah, it was very casual how he brought the Willow one-shot up. So casual I was like "wait, were we supposed to already know this?" Was he so exhausted from his trip that he let something slip? If it's coming out in the fall, it should be solicited within the next couple of months. I'm taking an excited viewpoint for the smaller cast for the future. More close and personal with the characters we love. But could it be that the reason season 9 is smaller is because there's no army of Slayers? I hope it's because they're off the stage, rather than a) all dead or b) de-powered. The former is too sad to think about and the latter would kind of fly in the face of the "are you ready to be strong?" theme. Unless (as I've speculated before) they just learn they can be heroes without needing magical powers. How cool would it be if season 8 ends with the Slayers getting de-powered, but they go ahead and kick ass anyway? I think the controversial romance will probably be Xander and Dawn. It feels like it's going in that direction considering it appears like Xander and Dawn are maybe off on their own mission during the Retreat arc, a mission involving the submarine. And since they're the only characters without a magic attached to them, that'd make them able to move about more freely. And moving about more freely and just the two of them? I say hook-up. It's certainly possible. I don't think it would be in character for him to treat a relationship with Dawn as just a hook-up, though. (Buffy would kill him, for one thing). Maybe just another tragically doomed romance that will pretty much guaranee one or the other of them is toast in the finale.

Lol hook-up was just a cavalier phrase. I don't think it will play out that way.

Reposting this from the Q&A thread:
Whoa... so many possible bits of information here.
1. Willow one-shot?!?! That's... erm, is my leg being pulled? 2. More Tales-like stuff. Cool. 3. Possibly the payoff for bringing back Amy, and I'm guessing Warren too, since he's gonna be in "Retreat". 4. Hmmm... re: smaller cast for S9... wondering if that's because it's a Scooby-centric storyline (wonder if the term "Scoobies" will still be relevant then), or because we'll finally see how the 2000 Slayers become 1/2 a Slayer. I've a feeling that S8 has to reconcile those bits since it's been so heavily hinted at. Plus, addressing the disconnect between "Chosen" and Fray was the point of S8 afterall...
EDIT: I didn't even think about the cast member who's shown interest in writing as I thought that he had mentioned chatting with Felicia Day before... And the MDHP special now up to 3 pages... sweet!
EDIT2: Andrew - Scott's let some things out of the bag here early before. Like the title for "Retreat"... I think we knew that one way before the solicits came out. Also, the individual titles for "Safe" and "Living Doll".

Lol hook-up was just a cavalier phrase. I don't think it will play out that way. That's not the first time I've heard that phrase used to describe Xander's future romantic activities in season 8, though... didn't Scott or someone say a few months ago that he had another romance coming this year, but it would be "more of a hook-up?" I'm not sure what to expect of a Xander relationship at this point. He lost his virginity to a violent lunatic, badly muffed up his first two long-term relationships, lost his last two girlfriends in horribly scarring ways, and hasn't exactly worked through his grief very thoroughly, as far as we can see. If I were him, I'd be worried that I'd kiss Dawn and she'd instantly explode.

Also, Scott mentioned that the TPB for Predators and Prey will be the biggest one in the season. And since he confirmed that "Thrill" will not be included, it's probably safe to assume that "Harmony Bites" and "Vampy Cat" will be in the TPB instead.

Re: Amy's significant role in "Retreat."
Does anyone suspect she might switch sides at some point? She's moved an awfully long way from the person she was in season 1... she's even much worse than her post-rat self as last seen in "The Killer In Me." She's not getting a lot of respect from Warren. I wonder if there's any way she could get ahold of her old self?
Re: The canonicity of "Long Night's Journey":
I haven't read it... Scott seemed to think this could qualify as comics canon, like "Fray" and "ToTS" and so forth... but doesn't it directly contradict previously established canon? That's what has kept me from recognizing it as canon, even though Joss co-wrote it. I just assumed he intended it to be an "alternate reality" story.

I wonder if there's any way she could get ahold of her old self? I truly hope so. She is such a tragic character, which is why she is one of my favorite recurring characters. I'd hate to see anything bad happen to her. Unlike Willow, Amy had nobody to help her with what she was going through. She's had it rough: mom, rat, trapped underneath Sunnydale... it's really not fair. Amy is what Willow would of become had it not been for Buffy and Co. I'd love if she redeemed herself. Team Amy!

I actually want Amy to stay bad. I know the grand theme across the Buffyverse is redemption, but does every one have to be redeemed? Can't we have a few people stay evil, just because they enjoy it?

Oh come on, there are still plenty of evil characters in the Buffyverse. Good vs. Evil is a big theme in Season 8, and Amy is a perfect example of that, and of course, she is still human. It'd work extremely well for her journey as a character.

Kinda wished that Dawn had worn spiky stilettos when she "Fee Fi Fo F^*&ing Fum"-ed Amy's ratty ass. But no... Dawn had to be wearing soft sneakers. Sometimes compassion annoys the hell out of me. EDIT: Or soccer cleats. Those would work too.

You heartless bastard! You have no idea how much I enjoyed Amy messing with Willow during The Killer in Me. Willow deserved every agonizing second of it.

What I’ve loved about Amy is that her slow descent went unnoticed for so long. It was bubbling under the surface ever since Witch and finally came to a head in The Long Way Home. She was such a interesting character because no one paid attention to her magic abuse, literally taking on a darker persona (both in clothes and hair) or her shift in attitude until it was to late. And now she’s gone quite literally insane by having to feast off living human beings in the Hellmouth. I love that she finally snapped, years as a rat, being dumped by Willow, having everyone notice Willow’s power instead of hers.. It all just finally broke her.

I'm game for the only slayers in s9 being Buffy! Faith will even get her early retirement she wanted. If this happens, the story can finally have a tight small scooby gang again.
