Alright, I have another mystery movie: I watched it late at night when I was about 10 years old... lots of claymation. I remember young kids, two boys? and an eye out the back of one's hand or something like that. No, it's not the Angel episode. Freaked me out hardcore. Never been able to find it again. <EDIT> haha, ok I found it, it's called The Gate, and it looks absolutely ridiculous now Doh... I was about to say that that sounds like an early video for Tool but I haven't seen them in so long that I can't remember if one of the little claymation dudes ends up having an eye in the back of his hand. Seems like something crazy you'd see in a Tool vid, though. And the one about the guy living in the wall sounds really familiar to me. Like, I can picture it, just almost. I wanted to say it was an episode of "Masters of Horror", but I just looked at the synopsis for the 1st season and it's not. Also been a while since I saw any of that. I doubt anyone will get this one but here's my movie that I can't remember: This one's old, 70s, and I saw it when I was a kid and it freaked me the hell out. It was about Dracula, or some vampire(s), and they were going around stealing babies in the night? Or eating babies. Something about the blood of a newborn. I don't remember. I'm so vague on it. Seems like there were female vampires also? The mother of one of the babies? Trying to seduce someone. I just remember there was a scene with someone, maybe one of the vamps, being buried in a grave, like, alive. And maybe a castle on a hill. And possibly a dark and stormy night.

God, it really sucks when different countries get 'staggered' viewings of shows, or blocked content. It's a bunch of lawyery cockadoodle-doo, if you ask me.
I'm sorry you guys in the UK can't get the show. The interwebs have virtually erased all our political borders yet the TV business makes sure to hammer them into your head here at every turn.

Much as I heart Joss to bits and pieces, and am excited to be getting to the ep where Fox has finally gone all hands-off with the show, I will be bypassing Dollhouse on the night that Battlestar Galactica is in its finale. I will catch the ep on Hulu after my head stops spinning, which'll probably be Saturday evening or Sunday.
Joss is a super duper BSG fanboy. I bet I know what he'll be watching Friday night, too. I also bet this "do we keep DH against BSG that night" question has come up in his office. The BSG finale is like the geek Superbowl. Well, except that it just happens once. But still. My point is like everyone else's: "preview" the show after a big show, for one night, for two reasons: to attract viewers (it'll be a novelty), and to dodge the stampede to Skiffy.

It had its moments and a couple of funny lines, but for me this ep was mostly forgettable. The whole spoiled brat pop star clueless skankatron in bikini decorated with chandalier crystals just grated on my entire nerves. Flew past "just not remotely interesting" right to "I wish Echo would kill her so we don't have to go through the whole stalker bs so the episode will end".
What was interesting:
- Finding out Victor was a doll.
- The chair slap. LOL
- Jordan/Echo going off on the brat near the end, telling her "bitch don't think you can take me".
- Audra Mode.
- That Echo apparently is remembering stuff, and Sierra is, too. That the two both know it. That they know to conceal that fact.
- Tahmoh.
What was anti-interesting:
- The stalker guy plot (seriously... must every ep be about a deranged guy trying to hunt/kill/torture/godknowswhatelse some woman? did I accidentally flip over to the Lifetime Network?)
- The pop star brat plot, and a couple of too-long throwaway scenes of her performing on stage.
So... that's it. I liked it less than the pilot, and I really liked it less than last week's. After the pilot, last week's ep was a hopeful step forward. For me, this week's ep was a step back. The last minute, in the Dollhouse, showing Echo and Sierra passing by and the looks they exchanged, though, was great and really caught my attention.
My 2 cents.

I just read the original pilot script for "Echo" and that was full of amazing. It was simply awesome. Probably one of the best pilots Joss has ever done, period. It potentially could have been better than Firefly's pilot. I honestly don't understand what Fox was thinking. It's what happens when you have business types squiring the artist types. These two worlds are not similar. I freaking hate the business end of Hollywood. I have to deal with it occasionally when something crops up with my dad's estate. It's like... the business comes first and foremost, and then the art can happen... within the parameters of the business model.

When watching Dollhouse, I reflect back on how much I didn't like Buffy when it aired. And how later it had blossomed into such an amazing show that it became one of my most favorites, like, evar. But unfortunately I didn't cotton on to that fact until the summer before S7 aired.
So, I take that into account first.
Also, though the premiere and ep 2 fell flat to me, and felt bland and sorta cheesy/generic (I can't find the words I'm actually searching for, so that'll have to do), I found that I liked episode 2 a lot more on second viewing over at Hulu. I missed a few key things and got my thoughts untangled on a few others. It was worth it to rewatch it. It hasn't made me a hardcore fan or anything like that. But it took away a lot of the apprehension I had (have?) when I saw the promo for "Stage Fright", which looked (looks? ... eh) still cheesy.
I've read reviews that say that the only people watching are most likely Joss fans, and that the only people that will be left watching in the end will be Joss fans. I don't think that's necessarily true. I won't stick around if I don't like it, but as a Joss fan I'm cutting it a little more slack than I would if it were a show by somebody else I didn't really care about.

I don't like Topher. Not sure why yet, but he rubs me the wrong way. I do like Boyd, because I think he's going to come to care about Echo enough to change the Dollhouse, or at least try and get her out of it.
And I can think of at least one way to change the Dollhouse... stop running a prostitution ring.

Wait... The Scythe was in Fray before Buffy? Whoah. I thought it was the other way around. I would totally flip if I was watching that ep for the first time and saw it. I guess this is one of the disadvantages of becoming a fan after the series ended That was my understanding, but I could be wrong. I only came on board as a fan for season 7, and it was after Chosen that I found out about Fray.

I'm thinking have her read Fray beforehand, but don't tell her why. Just tell her what she reads will tie in to the show in a big, big way.
Reading Fray first might actually make the final battle in Chosen have more epic emotional impact, if she actually remembers what Urkonn tells Fray by then. Because she might be saying "OMG! But Urkonn said..." and "What happens next?!" and plow straight for the S8 comics, once you tell her that it has a Fray arc. Tell her all these things are connected. I'd definitely give her Fray to read now.
I wish I'd known about Fray, myself. I didn't. I had just barely caught like the last episode of S6 on TV, and it hooked me on the show, so that summer, I watched the entirety of the show so I'd be all caught up for S7's debut. But I had no clue that there was a comic that would tie it all in for me and make the ending more epic and whoa!-worthy. I mean, it was dramatic enough, but the whole scythe thing didn't really make much sense as I had no idea about its history. To me, it was a shiny red axe but I had no clue about the power it held or why Buffy would need it.

I rewatched it last night and I liked it better. I think because I caught some things I'd missed when it was on TV. It's still a bit Walker Texas Ranger-ish. But after the better impression I had last night, my hopes are a little higher that everything's going to be alright.
Also, I like Boyd. He's grumpy and all business. I think he has tried to see Echo as the non-person thing, but she's starting to get to him. (Speculation) I forsee angst in his future when he starts to give a damn about her, and wonder what made Caroline want to be a nothing, and maybe this puts him at opposition with the program. (Does he even know Echo's real name/previous life?)

Speaking as a nerdy lesbian, I can TOTALLY see why Willow would fantasize about Tina Fey. I mean, the woman is sexy, sophisticated, brainy, reeeally funny, has a goofy sense of humor, and is rich. Hoo... yeah. *fan self*

Harmony will totally go on forever. And I can totally see Joss having her be the only survivor of some apocalypse and riding off in the sunset in her Barbie car with her Pomeranians, in search of a mall...

In the case of Buffy and Satsu, Satsu chose Buffy but Buffy didn't really choose Satsu. Now wholly and completely. It's something Buffy has struggled with for a long time - letting people get close to her. She pushed Satsu away and Satsu accepted that. I wonder if Satsu had been as stubborn as Spike if maybe she could have snuck her way into Buffy's heart. Exactly right. Thank you. I kind of figure that, too. Buffy's problem is intimacy, and trusting that she's not going to get the other person hurt, killed, or they end up hurting themselves on purpose to be near her, or she 'makes' them leave her, like, literally move to another county, or in Riley's case, another country. I kind of half think that if Satsu was just willing to let it ride how it was - with her getting to be near/with Buffy, even when Buffy wasn't in love with her - Buffy could probably have let it ride, too. She was actually getting something she needed out of it - peaceful connection and intimacy that she hasn't had for a couple of years. However, I think at some point (probably sooner rather than later) Buffy would have pushed Satsu away, too. She seems incapable right now of having a complete relationship with anyone (when I say relationship, I mean everything). The more responsibility she takes on with the slaying gig, the more she has to be the Slayer, and the less she has time to actually be Buffy. And Buffy's the one that needs the human connection. She needs her friends and family close - we saw that all through the TV show - but she also needs some way to be understood, and that's where the connection to people who are like Angel and Spike and Satsu come in. I think in some way, Buffy's afraid the Slayer is going to be all she is anymore. And we've seen the primal Slayer - and we've seen Buffy be defiant to her and the shamen that hold the Slayer's power, and express her human individuality as her primary power, and the slaying as her profession. But that's been slowly evolving over the life of the show, and become more pronounced since she was resurrected. I think, more than ever now, Buffy's edging toward that disconnect, where Buffy takes a back seat and Slayer comes front and center. And I think that worries her, because it means a life of solitude. So when she reaches for a connection, it's a very human need to still be Buffy, and not be a hunter, or killer, or demon, or monster, that nobody can be around. When she hooked up with Satsu, that's what I saw in it. Satsu restored a part of Buffy because she affirmed that connection with her humanity that Buffy has been denying herself because of her work. JMNSHO.

If he eventually calls it quits with TV (and I'm sure he will, someday), and moves to the web, I'll be a leetle sad just because it's the end of an era. Hitting the couch with a cold drink and a snack when it's time for the Joss Show is a small hobby in this house. However, it's the start of a new era, with Dr. Horrible leading the way! That kinda rocks. And I know, we all know, what he can do when he's got the creative juju happening and a bunch of stuffy studio execs are not standing in his way. What would be even awesomer is if this is how Ripper finally got off the ground, and I was saying to a friend yesterday how awesome it'd be if we got a limited revival of the Buffyverse. Wishful thinking on the latter.

I liked it okay. It was some better than the pilot, that's saying something. The first 2 eps were uncharacteristically bland and formula (for me), not at all what I'd expected from Joss. They had their moments, though, where the good shined through and was fun to watch.
I still have hope the show will shape up and get better, though. And if not... Joss will probably move into making web series... es... where he'll have total control and none of this catch 22 stuff with networks that screws his shows up.

I enjoyed the issue. But I have to know what the heck Kennedy's up to, because I know there's more to that girl's plans than meets the eye. She's got something up her sleeve, I just know it.
And what the heck is up with that weird-ass Vampy Cat stuff? "Eat their ovaries"?! I think I winced at that one.

I actually want Buffy to have another crack at The First. Maybe find a way to kill it for good. That'd mean she'd have to rid the world of evil and badness, since that's what the First is... but if there's anyone for the job, it's Buffy! Yep, I think the Big Bad for S9 is... er, should be... Buffy. She's kind of been drifting off course for the last couple-few seasons. It's almost like her cajones are now too big for her pants. *chuckle* That's a funny picture.

Delerium/ DJ Tiesto Mix: Silence Awesome mix! Have listened to it several times this and last week, too. It just makes me think of Buffy ever since I saw -> this video<- on Youtube a while back. It's a Buffy song! On repeat for me right now: V.A.S.T. - Touched and I'm Dying David Bowie - Loving The Alien Metallica - Hero of the Day (also makes me think Buffy!) Cocteau Twins – Cherry-Coloured Funk Art of Noise - Moments In Love Really varied music interests here, too. ;D Oh yeah, +1 to Fade Into You by Mazzy Star and Mazzy Star in general!

Just wanted a title that wasn't the standard hi. My name's Steph, I live in NW Arkansas, I'm 36, been a Buffy fan since Season 7 aired. Caught the tail end of Season 6 and was like WOW, so got the DVDs from a friend to catch up. I watched the episodes out of order, though, because I'm a dork. Since the show ended, I had not re-watched anything, just was so bummed about it. But a few months ago, I got the DVD sets, and plowed through the whole show. In order! Whole new view on the show, I guess it felt like I was seeing it for the first time. It was SO incredible. I think now I'm a bigger fan than ever. Ah - yes, I'm also reading the Season 8 comics and loving it, just thoroughly giddy that the show is continuing in some form. Anyway, I love the site, I can't wait to dig in. I probably won't post a ton because of schedule (hoping to get into nursing school here very soon) but very happy to be here!
