People pick the weirdest things to dwell on. We have five weeks between the last issue and the next one that need to be filled by talking about something...

Ha! There we go! And you all thought you'd seen the last of this bad boy. Emmie! You look all different! How are we supposed to recognize you now? See what you dopes did? Fooling around with guns, and you blew a great big gaping hole in Emmie's old avatar and forced her to find a new one...

Hey, spuffy22, even tho it's not actually a "current" show, yay on you for "Party of Five"! I just lost serious guy points for saying that, didn't I? I don't care--it's got Matthew Fox, JLH, and best of all, Lacey Chabert, who I've had a ridiculous crush on for, oh, only about 9 years. ;D Anyway, I don't really watch many current shows these days, because it seems like the minute I start liking a show, it gets cancelled ("Deadwood"; "Jericho"). "Terminator:SCC" and "Lost" are the only 'scripted' shows I bother with, and the two versions of "Ghost Hunters" on SciFi. Other than that, gimme my DVDs, or even them old-timey things called books...

I absolutely thought Claire was toast there for a second. I hope she lives, but her death is the most sensible explanation for how Kate ends up as Aaron's "mom".

But debating this issue and trying to understand who's actually responsible brings me back to the most important part - that these events weren't really the point. That the everyday little battles of saving people were the most important times. Saving and protecting the innocent. I think that's one of the things I dislike about S4. "Buffy" was always more about the Big Bad who wanted to destroy or take over the world (the Master, Angelus, Glory, the First), and "Angel" was always more about the smaller, more personal battles (Darla, Holtz, Wolfram & Hart)--which is ironic, with "Buffy" being set in the small town, and "Angel" in the big, bad city. David Greenwalt really seemed to grasp this about "Angel" better than anybody--even including Joss--so when they lost him as the showrunner at the end of S3, I think that really contributed to some of the problems S4 suffered. There's still a lot about S4 I like--I just think it tried to go beyond what the show had been in the first three seasons, with mixed success, and kinda got away from what had made it so great.

Spike's always been jealous of Angel. Maybe he stole Angel's tattoo for himself when Angel's back was turned, just to make himself look a little cooler. Does that make sense? Of course not! But let's roll with it anyway. We need a shot of shirtless-Spike from behind to confirm.

There's Willow's changing eye-color. From blue, to brown, to green, and I think back to brown. Aly's eyes are actually green, aren't they?

Looks like dawn and not willow. She does like a bit like Dawn, but the clothes give her away--it's the same dress she was wearing when she first appeared in S8, in issue #3 (and the final page of #2).

When I re-watch my DVDs, I like to try to do it in a way that both shows match up, in terms of the crossovers. For the first couple of years of "Angel", it's pretty easy to figure out. For the fourth season (S7 of "Buffy") it can be kinda difficult to juggle. But I did finally work it out awhile back, and thought I'd share it for anyone else who might find it useful: BtVS 4.01 "The Freshman" =====>> AtS 1.01 "City of" BtVS 4.02 "Living Conditions" =====>> AtS 1.02 "Lonely Hearts" BtVS 4.03 "The Harsh Light of Day" =====>> AtS 1.03 "In the Dark" BtVS 4.04 "Fear, Itself" =====>> AtS 1.04 "I Fall to Pieces" BtVS 4.05 "Beer Bad" =====>> AtS 1.05 "Rm w/a Vu" BtVS 4.06 "Wild at Heart" =====>> AtS 1.06 "Sense and Sensitivity" BtVS 4.07 "The Initiative" =====>> AtS 1.07 "The Bachelor Party" BtVS 4.08 "Pangs" =====>> AtS 1.08 "I Will Remember You" BtVS 4.09 "Something Blue" =====>> AtS 1.09 "Hero" BtVS 4.10 "Hush" =====>> AtS 1.10 "Parting Gifts" BtVS 4.11 "Doomed" =====>> AtS 1.11 "The Somnambulist" BtVS 4.12 "A New Man" =====>> AtS 1.12 "Expecting" BtVS 4.13 "The I in Team" =====>> AtS 1.13 "She" BtVS 4.14 "Goodbye Iowa" =====>> AtS 1.14 "I've Got You Under My Skin" BtVS 4.15 "This Year's Girl" =====>> AtS 1.15 "The Prodigal" BtVS 4.16 "Who Are You?" =====>> AtS 1.16 "The Ring" BtVS 4.17 "Superstar" =====>> AtS 1.17 "Eternity" BtVS 4.18 "Where the Wild Things Are" =====>> AtS 1.18 "Five by Five" BtVS 4.19 "New Moon Rising" =====>> AtS 1.19 "Sanctuary" BtVS 4.20 "The Yoko Factor" =====>> AtS 1.20 "War Zone" BtVS 4.21 "Primeval" =====>> AtS 1.21 "Blind Date" BtVS 4.22 "Restless" =====>> AtS 1.22 "To Shanshu in LA" Pretty simple here: watch one episode of "Buffy", then one of "Angel", and just alternate all the way thru. But really, you just wanna make sure you watch "The Harsh Light of Day" (BtVS 4.03) before "In the Dark" (AtS 1.03), "The Bachelor Party" (AtS 1.07) before "Pangs" (BtVS 4.08), and "Pangs" before "I Will Remember You" (AtS 1.08). Later in the year, be sure you've watched "Who Are You" (BtVS 4.16) before "Five by Five" (AtS 1.18), and "Sanctuary" (AtS 4.19) before "The Yoko Factor" (BtVS 4.20) ----------------------------------------------------- BtVS 5.01 "Buffy Vs. Dracula" =====>> AtS 2.01 "Judgment" BtVS 5.02 "Real Me" =====>> AtS 2.02 "Are You Now or Have You Ever Been?" BtVS 5.03 "The Replacement" =====>> AtS 2.03 "First Impressions" BtVS 5.04 "Out of My Mind" =====>> AtS 2.04 "Untouched" BtVS 5.05 "No Place Like Home" =====>> AtS 2.05 "Dear Boy" BtVS 5.06 "Family" =====>> AtS 2.06 "Guise Will Be Guise" BtVS 5.07 "Fool for Love" =====>> AtS 2.07 "Darla" BtVS 5.08 "Shadow" =====>> AtS 2.08 "The Shroud of Rahmon" BtVS 5.09 "Listening to Fear" =====>> AtS 2.09 "The Trial" BtVS 5.10 "Into the Woods" =====>> AtS 2.10 "Reunion" BtVS 5.11 "Triangle" =====>> AtS 2.11 "Redefinition" BtVS 5.12 "Checkpoint" =====>> AtS 2.12 "Blood Money" BtVS 5.13 "Blood Ties" =====>> AtS 2.13 "Happy Anniversary" BtVS 5.14 "Crush" =====>> AtS 2.14 "The Thin Dead Line" BtVS 5.15 "I Was Made to Love You" =====>> AtS 2.15 "Reprise" BtVS 5.16 "The Body" =====>> AtS 2.16 "Epiphany" BtVS 5.17 "Forever" =====>> AtS 2.17 "Disharmony" BtVS 5.18 "Intervention" =====>> AtS 2.18 "Dead End" BtVS 5.19 "Tough Love" =====>> AtS 2.19 "Belonging" BtVS 5.20 "Spiral" =====>> AtS 2.20 "Over the Rainbow" BtVS 5.21 "The Weight of the World" =====>> AtS 2.21 "Through the Looking Glass" BtVS 5.22 "The Gift" =====>> AtS 2.22 "There's No Place Like Plrtz Glrb" Again, just watch one "Buffy" and then one "Angel", and you'll be good. But specifically, you want to watch "Fool for Love" (BtVS 5.07) before "Darla" (AtS 2.07); "Redefinition" (AtS 2.11) before "Crush" (BtVS 5.14); and "The Gift" (BtVS 5.22) before "There's No Place Like Plrtz Glrb" (AtS 5.22). ----------------------------------------------------- BtVS 6.01 "Bargaining, Pt. 1" =====>> AtS 3.01 "Hearthrob" BtVS 6.02 "Bargaining, Pt. 2" =====>> AtS 3.02 "That Vision Thing" BtVS 6.03 "After Life" =====>> AtS 3.03 "That Old Gang of Mine" AtS 3.04 "Carpe Noctem" BtVS 6.04 "Flooded" BtVS 6.05 "Life Serial" =====>> AtS 3.05 "Fredless" BtVS 6.06 "All the Way" =====>> AtS 3.06 "Billy" BtVS 6.07 "Once More, with Feeling" =====>> AtS 3.07 "Offspring" BtVS 6.08 "Tabula Rasa" =====>> AtS 3.08 "Quickening" BtVS 6.09 "Smashed" =====>> AtS 3.09 "Lullaby" BtVS 6.10 "Wrecked" =====>> AtS 3.10 "Dad" BtVS 6.11 "Gone" =====>> AtS 3.11 "Birthday" BtVS 6.12 "Doublemeat Palace" =====>> AtS 3.12 "Provider" BtVS 6.13 "Dead Things" =====>> AtS 3.13 "Waiting in the Wings" BtVS 6.14 "Older and Far Away" =====>> AtS 3.14 "Couplet" BtVS 6.15 "As You Were" =====>> AtS 3.15 "Loyalty" BtVS 6.16 "Hell's Bells" =====>> AtS 3.16 "Sleep Tight" BtVS 6.17 "Normal Again" =====>> AtS 3.17 "Forgiving" BtVS 6.18 "Entropy" =====>> AtS 3.18 "Double or Nothing" BtVS 6.19 "Seeing Red" =====>> AtS 3.19 "The Price" BtVS 6.20 "Villains" =====>> AtS 3.20 "A New World" BtVS 6.21 "Two to Go" =====>> AtS 3.21 "Benediction" BtVS 6.22 "Grave" =====>> AtS 3.22 "Tomorrow" This was the first year the shows were on different networks, and the crossovers are pretty much non-existent. Watch "Carpe Noctem" (AtS 3.04) before "Flooded" (BtVS 6.04). ----------------------------------------------------- BtVS 7.01 "Lessons" =====>> AtS 4.01 "Deep Down" BtVS 7.02 "Beneath You" =====>> AtS 4.02 "Ground State" BtVS 7.03 "Same Time, Same Place" =====>> AtS 4.03 "The House Always Wins" BtVS 7.04 "Help" =====>> AtS 4.04 "Slouching Toward Bethlehem" BtVS 7.05 "Selfless" =====>> AtS 4.05 "Supersymmetry" BtVS 7.06 "Him" =====>> AtS 4.06 "Spin the Bottle" BtVS 7.07 "Conversations with Dead People" =====>> AtS 4.07 "Apocalypse, Nowish" BtVS 7.08 "Sleeper" =====>> AtS 4.08 "Habeas Corpses" BtVS 7.09 "Never Leave Me" =====>> AtS 4.09 "Long Day's Journey" BtVS 7.10 "Bring on the Night" =====>> AtS 4.10 "Awakening" BtVS 7.11 "Showtime" =====>> AtS 4.11 "Soulless" BtVS 7.12 "Potential" =====>> AtS 4.12 "Calvary" BtVS 7.13 "The Killer in Me" =====>> AtS 4.13 "Salvage" BtVS 7.14 "First Date" =====>> AtS 4.14 "Release" BtVS 7.15 "Get It Done" BtVS 7.16 "Storyteller" BtVS 7.17 "Lies My Parents Told Me" =====>> AtS 4.15 "Orpheus" AtS 4.16 "Players" BtVS 7.18 "Dirty Girls" =====>> AtS 4.17 "Inside Out" AtS 4.18 Shiny Happy People BtVS 7.19 "Empty Places" =====>> AtS 4.19 "The Magic Bullet" AtS 4.20 "Sacrifice" AtS 4.21 "Peace Out" BtVS 7.20 "Touched" =====>> AtS 4.22 "Home" BtVS 7.21 "End of Days" BtVS 7.22 "Chosen" This is where it gets tricky. You can alternate for the first half of the year, but somewhere along the way you need to squeeze two extra episodes of "Buffy" in there somewhere, because you need to watch "Lies My Parents Told Me" (BtVS 7.17) before "Orpheus" (AtS 4.15). Then you need to watch the final 7 episodes of "Angel" while only watching 3 eps of "Buffy", because "Home" (AtS 4.22) comes before "End of Days" (BtVS 7.21). Hope that's helpful to someone.

You know another thing that bothers me? The teaser of "Apocalypse, Nowish" where Cordy has a nightmare about being attacked by the Beast. She's evil and the one controlling it by that point, so why the hell is she having a nightmare about it? I always liked to think that this was the last time we saw the real Cordy in S4. Its a dream sequence, so it makes sense that she'd appear as herself in her own subconscious. The dialogue "I wanna warn Angel, but the words won't come out. Why can't I tell him?" implies that she is no longer in control of her body. Then its followed by the Beast choking her, which is probably meant to represent what is suppressing her. Yeah, okay, that works. Good on you. But it still highlights one of the problems I have with S4, which is that the writers left us to fill in too many of the blanks ourselves. I don't want them treating me like I'm 9 and need every single detail spelled out and explained, but at the same time, don't leave me as the viewer to do all the work of trying to make sense of the plot...

An idea occurred to me tonight: What if, of all the vampires and demons to be banished from this dimension, Drusilla was the only one to find her way back, and became the lurks' version of "Patient Zero"? Maybe 10 or 15 years before "Fray", she returns to 'our' world, and begins siring vampires--err, I mean, lurks--who go on to sire others, who sire others, which eventually leads to Icarus, then Harth. It would be cool if there was a direct line of descent between Darla (and Angelus) and Harth...

Hurray! We're back! DG, you said that better than I ever could in my life. Awesome, and please come 'round the boards more often. For the record, my whole thing all along has been, why do we have to label or define Buffy as being anything? There's certainly no line on her driver's license that identifies her sexual orientation (unless hers is different than mine). Kara added a poll to this thread, and I'm sure she was very well-meaning in doing so, but I haven't voted in it, and won't, and here's why: I've already referenced "Objects in Space", and now I'll bring up another classic Joss episode, "Hush". One of the things he talked about as one of the ideas behind "Hush" is how limiting words can be. That when you say something is a certain thing, you immediately confine it to a narrow definition and close off all possibilities of it also maybe being something else. I really don't think Buffy is straight, bi, or gay. I think she's just Buffy, and should be allowed to be interested in anyone she wants--male, female, Catholic, Jew, athiest, white, black, Hispanic, or Asian--without everyone scrambling around like crazy trying to figure out what she "is". Bring on the zombies, baby!

The scene at the beginning where Ben took down the two Arab guys on horses, I literally said right out loud: "I think I know why Ben's the boss--he's like a superhero or something!" Didn't see that coming...

But can you answer the question? Do you think Buffy is sexually responsive to both sexes, yes or no? Regardless of my definition. I think, for one night at least, Buffy was sexually responsive to Satsu. I really have no idea if it goes beyond that, and quite honestly, neither do you.

Can you admit Buffy is sexually responsive to both sexes? Mikey, you've already done a thoroughly wonderful job of explaining the textbook definitions to us, according to Mr. Webster. Bravo. Hey people I added a poll in this thread so go vote! No, because the choice I'd pick--"Not Enough Information Yet"--isn't available. I'd like to wait a little while and see how things play out with Satsu first.

Oh, and I didn't respond to Gremlin because 1) at first I didn't see his post because so many people posted at once, and 2) his questions are nearly identical to others I've already answered and I don't want to have to keep answering the same questions. Well, maybe a quick recap would be helpful for those just tuning in. Or those who don't remember back to what you might've said 6 pages and 4 days ago. The big problem I'm having, and maybe it's the same one others are having, too, is that you're trying to define Buffy in a very academic sort of way. You've mentioned the dictionary more than once. Well, academia and books are great when you're 20 and in college and freshly-enlightened. I'm choosing to view Buffy in a more realistic, real-world sort of way where dictionary definitions are often not worth the paper they're printed on. For the sake of argument: There's a person that considers themselves straight. They've never thought about having a same-sex encounter, never had any interest in a relationship with someone of the same sex. But something happens one night, and they try it. And tho they go all the way thru with it, they decide they didn't really like it, that it wasn't for them, and that they have no urge to ever repeat it. By your strict viewpoint, that person can never be considered "straight" again. By the confines of the dictionary definition, you're right. By the way things work in the real world, where people are living flesh-and-blood beings with thoughts and feelings all their own, and not just abstract ideas on a page, I don't think you are. How does that apply to Buffy? Well, I've said more than once that I dislike labels in this area, because it leads to exactly these sorts of arguments, but if we have to hang one on her, I'm still gonna call her straight. If there's more to come between her and Satsu in following issues, then okay, I'm willing to call her bisexual right now, at this point in her life. And still be perfectly ready to change that back to straight at some point down the line (and then back to bisexual, if circumstances ever warrant). But by all means, go ahead and continue to view things thru the lens of a dictionary--no one's stopping you. The rest of us will be out here in the real world if you ever get lonely and wanna join us.

Mikey, at this point I can't decide if the point I'm making is just legitimately not getting thru, or if you're being deliberately dense so that you don't have to concede anything. Either way, explaining it further is obviously a waste of my time. There's a very fine line between being confident in yourself and your opinions, and being obstinant and unwilling to listen to anyone else. You've made some very good points in this thread. But other people have made some very good ones, as well, and you refuse to acknowledge that they might, just might, be right (for instance, I'd love to hear your thoughts on Disgruntled Gremlin's very well-written post at the bottom of the previous page). At this rate, it sounds like no one is ever in your life going to win an argument with you, and that's not necessarily a good or healthy thing. Now, where did I put my popcorn? I'm going back to the sidelines of this thread and resuming spectator-mode...
