Plot lines thicken and hopefully nobody dies, not even little old Lady Geneive Savidge, poor girl. I hope Giles' stupid sidekick troll made of rocks... thing dies. Trafalgar, indeed! MB x

And it also means that something big must be happening on the first few pages! Not necessarily; they've cut out the first few pages in their previews before, I'm sure. MB x

Oh my sweet merciful Zeus, that would be a very long wait! What 4 or 5 years? It depends on whether there's going to be a strong division or not; forty comics is a hell of a lot to package together as one single volume, so there might be a 20-20 split, like they did with volume two of Runaways. I hope the season eight omnibus comes with extras, though. And a shiny, shiny cover. As for myself, I buy the regular cover every month; because I started with the regulars, and changing over now would make my spine itch. I do think Jeanty's covers have improved, but his artwork is still too cartoon-ish for me. I keep them boarded in a little comic book file. MB x

See, this is the kind of thing that makes me feel like people (possibly including Joss Whedon and Scott Allie) are lumping all unhappiness about the way this was done together and just dismissing it as 'close-minded', when I think it's we, the critics, who paid more attention to the details and the subtext than even the man in charge of the story. Have to say I agree. I think this sort of thing over-simplifies a complex issue that - with most people here, at least - has nothing to do with close-mindedness. MB x

^ In Crayon? I'd buy two. Well, you'd have to keep one in pristine condition to sell on ebay in five years time. All joking aside, I think most Buffy fans would buy - and buy into - anything Joss put out, regardless of it's quality. The complete lack of any ability to be critical is one of the things I most dislike about this fandom. MB x

It probably doesn't feel like it because it takes 4 months to tell a full episode most times. We're only in what? Episode 4 or 5 of the season? We're still in the beginning, even after a year. I think that's part of the problem with the comics; a lot of Buffy fans had never read comics before, but I'm still not sure that Joss has found his groove as a comics writer. It's the major 'PLOT TWIST!!!', the 'WAPOW! BET YOU DIDN'T SEE THAT COMING!' at the end of almost every issue that irks me (particularly given that we've usually worked out what's coming about three months in advance); if he'd go out on some mystery and intruige - the way that Twilight pops up at the end of No Future For You was perfect - I think people would feel more inclined to stick around for the next month, and using the time in between to do what this fandom is best at; creating batshit theories that everyone shoots down that then turn out to be correct. I do find the Buffy community slightly unhinged at times. There can be a bit of a hive mind going on, and anyone who disagrees with the consensus/suggets that Joss's work might be flawed in anyway whatsoever tends to get booted out, but I think that's true of most fandoms. That said, there are a lot of good things about the fandom, and about this board, and I'll be sticking around to see how things play out. I've yet to see anyone flounce out of the fandom, though I'll be sure to point and laugh at them as they do. MB x

And in most trans people's eyes, they ARE the gender that they get re-assigned as. True. But - at a scientific level - wouldn't they still have female DNA? Oh, snap. I'm becoming one of those wanky fans, aren't I? I need to stay away from this fandom. By the way though, sexual identity and gender identity are very, very different things. I... never suggested... they weren't? I don't really see why you're making this point. MB x

I think Andrew is asexual, at the moment. He's too immature for a relationship...
Although, oh! I did think of a way to clamjam another boy into the Buffyverse. Although it's the most horrificly fanfic idea anyone has ever had, so I'll probably delete this post at some point to retain my cool:
How would Willow's Spell affect a female to male transexual dormant Slayer?
Well, I did warn you.

Well, Buffy Season Eight is a very well-constructed story. If you dislike it because it continues the story, sets up plot points and evolves the characters then you are every bit as stupid as the naysayers who think Lost is "too confusing". Sorry, if that sounds harsh. Not harsh. Just completely ludicrous. 'You don't like it because you're too stupid to like it' is an extremely poor arguement. MB x

I agree with Pablo. My favourite scenes so far remain the interaction between Buffy and Xander in issue one, and the opening shots with Buffy and Willow in issue eleven. And the Slayerettes getting down with their bad selves all over Giant Dawn, because it gives me a happy. I can see the Scoobies gradually coming together, but it's issue twelve; it's taking too long, and the flimsy plot - which has, so far, been made up of vague evil, special guest stars and exciting PLOT TWISTS! - is losing hold of my attention.

If Satsu was a male slayer, would people be this outraged? I think not. I think some people are having a little trouble seeing their icon as a bisexual woman. BUFFY?! BISEXUAL!? No way! She's a "normal" girl. Ha! Not quite. Some people are having trouble seeing their icon sleeping with a woman to shift a few units. MB x

Fantastic news about the writers! I was thinking, 'Wow, not long 'til Jane's book!', but then I sat and thought about it and realised it was at least nine months in the offing, even without a month off here and there. Comic book impatience is no fun.
Interesting interview.

Willow killing Rack is worse than Warren killing Tara and almost killing Buffy? Really? lol Beside the point; she still killed someone. A pock-faced crack magic dealer, yes, but it still doesn't justify her killing him. The way some people view the Buffyverse in black and white - in right and wrong, good and evil - seems to completely defy what was, for me, one of the most prominent themes of the show. I find it truly baffling. MB x

I must be completely blanking, and I hope I'm not the only one, but who else did Willow kill? Rack. And she threatened to kill Dawn. And, well, everyone else. She wasn't just killing blindly, they were very specific targets; even if Willow wasn't fully compus mentis, there was a part of her that knew what she was doing. Arguably, Willow killing Warren and Rack is worse than Warren killing Tara; even if he shot to kill, killing Tara was accidental. Willow succeeded. MB x

It's kinda funny though that you think Warren could have been contained by police and be fine in prison. There's no way. They managed to maintain Ethan right enough. Until Joss needed someone from the series who was expendable for killings in the comics, obviously. But I always thought the point in Warren was that he used so much showy magic and technology, but never really got anywhere with it. I mean, the geeks did some awful things, but Warren was more of a ringleader than the one doing all the work. Without his cronies, he had to resort to shooting Buffy in order to kill her... It still didn't work. Also, I think people forget that Warren wasn't the only person Willow killed. MB x

Justice? I am sorry but he didnt actually even mean to shot her. Sure he aimed for Buffy and planned to kill her but Justice? All in all it really was a accident he didnt deserve to die for that accident. You'll find that big scary death is the common solution to all problems on this forum. Even if it's explicitly stated within the show that Slayers don't - shouldn't - kill humans, and that humans have their own set of laws for dealing with murder. Someone kills? Big scary death for them! Unless it's Willow. Or Buffy. Or Spike. Angel. Anya. Giles. Or Faith. Actually, anyone the fans like. A few witticisms and a shot in the opening montage and you're off the hook... Who said anything about logic? MB x

I'm sorry, I still think she would have killed her if her blood wouldn't have been useful. The fact that she'd have been lying crippled at the bottom of Glory's tower might have put a stop to any future plans. MB x

I've never really understood fandom's obsession with what is and what isn't canon, particularly in the Buffyverse, where there are so many inconsistencies within the show itself; just off the top of my head, the Turok Han being the most impossible things to kill ever/everyone and their Nan being able to dust them in 'Chosen', and all that nonsense with Warren being The First, for instance.
As far as I'm concerned, as long as something rings true to the characters and gets them where they need to be, I'm willing to accept as part of the mythology. If it doesn't, I can chalk it up to poor writing and pretend it doesn't exist.
(I posted something of a similar sentiment a few days ago, but it mysteriously disappeared. I'll be keeping my beadies on this one, homies!)
