This will probably be quite unpopular: Other than the obvious (Something Blue, Intervention), I think that each time Buffy kissed Spike, a small part of her died inside. Bang! Though, I'm assuming you're talking about their season 6 relationship, which was probably true, I won't deny that

This will probably be quite unpopular: Other than the obvious (Something Blue, Intervention), I think that each time Buffy kissed Spike, a small part of her died inside. I think that's very true. But it also gave her a will to live. She needed to feel something, and Spike gave her that. Lust, comfort, disgust, hatred, you name it. Without Spike, I think she might have killed herself, and I'm not just talking about how he stopped her in OMWF. She needed him for a while (but I think he could have offered the non-sexual kind of comfort and it might have worked just as well or better). But he didn't accept it when she didn't need him anymore, when it hurt her more than healed to be with him.

I've recently been really enjoying Buffy, picking random places to watch from; and it's all because I've decided to ignore season 6 & 7.

Ok I have no idea where this falls on the popular/unpopular scale, so I'm just going to put it out there for feedback 'cause I want to know what people think. The master's punchbowl mouth: stupidest looking thing ever or what? Is it just me?

I'ma go out on a limb and say that The Master in general is just a terribly written villain. He's just so cliche and lame. I know whenever I watch Season 1 and he comes on screen I just get annoyed because he's just so damn lame. By and far my least favourite Big Bad of not only Buffy but pretty much every television show ever. He's just so ... blah. On another note; Season 8 spoilers: Hence even further disappointment in Season 8 when he's somehow back alive and attempting to be a major threat again. Man I hope it's the First and not actually the Master. KEEP DEAD THINGS DEAD. NO ONE LIKES HIM.

I didn't think he was so bad, especially for Buffy's first big bad. At least he had a personality, unlike Adam.

His red face is kind of gross, yet scary. Did he never wash his mouth for a decade straight? Or did he just eat that often?

I didn't think he was so bad, especially for Buffy's first big bad. At least he had a personality, unlike Adam. Adam wasn't supposed to have a personality. It's kinda ironic, since he's a composite of so many beings, and yet, he isn't any. Adam kinda served as the manifestation of one of the major themes of S4: identity. He didn't know who or what he was at first. Hence, his whole need to understand by dissecting, which is a very reductionist way of looking at things (i.e. science). The only problem with that is that personality and issues like the soul aren't easy to tackle with a reductionist method. But I digress... my point was, I think Adam gets a bad rep that's kinda undeserved because his entire character makes sense in a sorta metaview of S4.

I want to know more about where the human parts of Adam came from. Was he once one of Maggie's 'favourites'? or was he just a body they had handy? Did they choose him for particular strengths he had? Did he consent to having his body parts used?

I think the main reason Adam's less liked than other Big Bad's is because compared to other Buffy Big Bads, he's mediocre. I like him, but I don't think he's Big Bad material, not by Buffyverse standards. At least we got The Initiative to be a mini Big Bad in that season. Come to think of it, they're both like mini Big Bad's.

People don't like the master? I thought he was amusing. The Master would have been a disappointment in subsequent seasons -- pretty much one-dimensional, "Blah, blah, look at me, I'm sealed evil in a can, and as soon as I escape this prison I will rule the world, mwa ha ha ha ha" -- but he worked for Season 1. First because the season was short and really didn't allow time for a lot of elaborate plots, and second because we were just getting to know the protagonists and didn't need a lot of character development for a complex villain at the same time.

I guess my opinion is unpopular. I way prefer Adam to the Master. Like Wenxina said, I've always kind of enjoyed Adam because I also saw him embodying the theme of identity, or loss thereof, within the season and I found that kind of enjoyable. I thought he just generally had an interesting backstory, good development and was a good way of replicating Frankenstein's monster in modern times and re-examining the implications of technology/science that were present within the original novel, except, well, now more advanced.
The Master on the other hand has always just seemed so unoriginal and bland. There's one of him in a million vampire stories and I didn't feel that there was anything unique about him. I just loathe him because I think he's pretty much the most boring character ever.
