There's no way I can rank the Buffy seasons. But I love Season 7 except for the rushed ending. Selfless, Conversations, Never Leave Me, The Killer In Me... so many good episodes.
And whoever thinks season 1 is better than season 4 is off their freakin rocker.

I can't believe so many think season 4 is the worst it's one of my favorites..... o well i guess it's my opinion I just thought it was really boring, as was Adam. I also did not like the Commando Guys plot line, and I did NOT like Riley, though he became likeable in season 5.

Joss, too, then, since he "loves Season 6" and "thinks some of the best episodes they ever did were in Season 6".

Try saying that on Whedonesque. Nah, I agree with you. I don't think anyone can make objective assessments of the Buffy or Angel seasons, anyway; we like what we like.

The problem with judging this is most people rate the seasons based on what they liked more. It's hard to be objective judging the quality of the show. It's easier saying which one is your least favorite season. Feels more accurate to me.
Buffy related to so many people for a multitude of different reasons. So whichever season had the aspects that tickled you the most, that's your fav. Or whichever season had something that annoyed you, that's the worst one.
Unless you're very enlightened and basing your opinion on which one had the best arc, character development, quality of writing...blahdy blah blah.
I'd be interested to hear which season people felt had the best/worst of those aspects.

How could anyone rate seasons 2 or 3 on that list! Oh well, to each their own.
I find it hard to rank any as the worst season since I think all of them have great aspects to them. I voted season 1 just because the physical quality of it is not up to par with the rest of the show, it's mainly the music and lighting that I don't like in it. I would love to see a new release with a new score...I think that would completely up the value and feel of that season.

I'd be interested to hear which season people felt had the best/worst of those aspects. Even so, one could argue that there are no objective standards for art (which would include "best arc", "character development", "quality of writing", "blahdy blah blah"). We don't have the same personal experiences, the same kinks and turn-offs, the same tastes, the same real-life relationships, the same anything, so I'm not sure if an assessment could be made that would absolutely eliminate personal bias. I'm not even sure if art should be judged without personal bias, 'cause then it probably wouldn't affect us as profoundly, if at all. I don't know; it's a complicated subject.

I picked Season 1. I love all the seasons a hell of a lot, but as Adam said Season 1 just wasn't up to par with the others in terms of visual appeal. The first season of a lot of shows (Angel, Charmed, Buffy) all seem to have a dark/grainy feel to them.

Which makes defining a 'worst season' problematic. I say switch the terminology to least favorite.

Season 6 is the broodiest season and really boring for me (except Once More With Feeling). I don't know why so many people hate season 4. I think it might be one of the funniest seasons there is.

Season 4 was great to me, I loved Adam. If I could change one thing is I would replace Riley with any other human being on this earth.

Every single season of Buffy is amazing, although I would have to go for Season 4 and Sesaon 7 because of a few things. Too much of Riley in Season 4 and too much of Spike in Season 7. I picked Season 4.
But like it's been said they are still damn good seasons compared with other series.
Season 4 brought some awesome episodes such as Restless, Hush, Primeval, the Faith episodes, the Oz episodes...
Season 7 was still very enjoyable thanks to Andrew. He was simply too funny. He cracked me up all the time. I also liked the fact that Buffy turned very dark and tough with the potentials.

Season 1 was average by the way, but it's hard to tell as it was a mini-season.

I actually liked the fact that the first season was only 12 episodes. It allowed them to establish the base characters without overwhelming the audience.
My ratings would be: 2.great overall arc, great group dynamic
3.best "big bad"(I loved the mayor),Faith.group dynamic started to suffer(Xander)
5.best group dynamic, good "big bad".Would've ranked higher, but making Spike untouchable regardless of what he does got annoying(I loved Spike, but I felt that they gave him alot of leeway because he was a popular character)
1.great base for the characters to grow,I liked The Master
4&6.tied for opposite reasons 4.Great episodes, lousy overall season arc(I hated Adam) 6.good overall season arc, while all the epiosdes had good moments,I felt that most were pretty weak(minus the Willow arc, which I loved)
7.the first and last few episodes were ok,too many plot holes(actually, there were too many negatives for me to list)
