There have been hundreds of reoccurring characters in Buffy and Angel, which ones do you guys think were the most overused or should have served a specific purpose and than gone away.
I would say Andrew I never was a fan. I wish he would have died in the final instead of Anya (at one point this was the plan) I would have also had Jonathan be a part of the team instead of Andrew. He was someone we knew since season 2 and I cared about him a heck of a lot more than Andrew. He could have played a similar role to what Andrew did and we would have had one more tie to the early years. As the season was advertised as things coming full circle ( with sunnydale high back in the mix), it made more sense to me to have Jonathan there than a character we had known for 1 season.
Jasmine I thought this was a very poor ending to season 4 especially after we lost Cordy to the dark side and the wonderful Faith and Wes story. It just seemed the excrement died down 5 episodes to soon. The worst part is they killed Cordy off for this storyline.

I'm going to have to go with Drusilla. She was an important character sometimes, but she got tiring after a while. I always skip her scenes unless it's relevant to the rest of the plot.

Andrew, but he was only overused because Nicholas Brendon couldn't be full-time comic relief due to some serious real-life problems. So, that's sort of understandable. One that's less understandable is the overuse of Harmony (Season 4 of Buffy, Season 5 of Buffy, Season 5 of Angel), especially since Mercedes was a pretty bad actress for more than half of that run. (I do adore her in Not Fade Away, though).

I love Harmony. The fact that she's the only character to be been from the unaired pilot to Not Fade Away makes her special, and I really like her as a vampire.
Most overused (good thread idea by the way !) :
- Clem
- Darla (with her pregnancy thing, she should have been killed as the big bad of season 2)
- Spike (he never should have returned since Chosen)

I would have said Spike hands down until Andrew, now it's pretty much a draw.

wow...saying spike is like blasphemous in my book. Totally needed, though his writing was awful in season 4.

Andrew.
Mostly because I hate that he stayed with Warren even after Katrina's rape-speech. That would have been a wonderful opportunity of him to come clean to Buffy and show were Warren and Jonathan was. That way, he could have run away, done some mooping and then come back in season 7 as an asset.
Or Jonathan could have turned stopped Andrew from stabbing him and joined Buffy instead. I would have liked that.

I wished jonathan would've survived instead but andrew's appearances on Angel were hilarious. I think if they would've tried that with jonathan it wouldn't have worked

I'd have to say Andrew and Spike.
Andrew just annoyed me.
As for Spike,I liked his character,but had a hard time getting past the fact that he should have been staked in season 4.

I agree with the guy who said that he should have been staked in S4 (or before... like Season 2...), but I don't really like Spike, as you're all aware of... But the difference is that Harmony, and Drac weren't in every episode.... they fought Buffy & Co. and then ran away when they lost. Spike was THERE... chained to Giles bathtub and yet he somehow survived getting staked. But I hate Spike anyway. So I'm a bit biased. |

I feel like Anne (after taking Buffy's name) should have come back more than just in Angel after her last appearance on Buffy.
