Joss Whedon: I do have plans for Spike, but the Angel franchise to which Spike defected is in fact owned by another comic-book company, so all that has to be worked out... and is indeed being worked out. (TVGuide) This was before season six was announced, though, right? I get the feeling 'indeed being worked out' was more to do with Joss sorting out a canon Angel continuation than it does legal issues. He's said before that he can and will use Angel and Spike in Buffy, but that - since Angel has his own story (and, now, so does Spike!) - he'd be using them sparingly. MB x

I wonder how similar this is going to be to the TV movie Joss had planned for Spike and Illyria? Interesting stuff, though. I've never been a huge Spike fan - I think his presence became too overbearing in the last seasons of both shows, Buffy especially - but I do think he's an interesting character, and I'm looking forward to seeing where they take this one...
Also quite excited by the fact that we're going to get so much of this before July! I wish Buffy was over at IDW, they really keep their writers hopping with knocking out the comics!

Whatever happens, IDW still own the rights to the Angel comics, so I don't think it'll be the last we've seen of the characters. That said, I'm not sure how brave they'd be to continue the story after After the Fall without Joss Whedon's name over the title.

the length of Nina's hair (should be shorter) Maybe in the hell dimension, Nina is forced to suffer really bad hair. And really big breasts. MB x

Bryan already said at Whedonesque it's not Buffy. Doesn't rule out The First playing Buffy. Just a thought. I'm leaning towards Cordelia, though. Mostly because I'm assuming it's someone we've already met, and Lindsay doesn't have the rack to pull off that outfit. MB x

I am from Scotland, Edinburgh and got the bus into town to get it from Forbidden Planet and they said it won't be out until next week and the other comic book shop said two weeks. Oh! There's another comic shop in Edinburgh? Sorry, the issue at hand! I thought it was odd that I couldn't find it today. I spent about ten minutes rifling through this week's new arrivals looking for it, the girl in the shop was standing by the shelf with a big pile of comics in her hand waiting to put them out. I hope she hates me. It's a shame, but it'll keep 'til next week, and at least I had the penultimate Whedon Runaways to placate me. MB x

Lorne

I can't stress enough how the opposite of cool Lorne coming back into 'season six' would be. As much as I liked him as a character, I think he seemed like a spare part for much of his time on the show, but the writers made some interesting turns in season five, particularly after Fred's death. I love the idea of him doing one more job for Angel and then disappearing into the ether; Lorne was never a fighter, and his story was always about running away from himself, and it was a really solid, full-circle ending. It would be a shame to ruin that.
That said, isn't issue five the 'First Night' issue, that catches up with characters from the Angelverse that aren't necessarily going to impact upon After the Fall?

Bookmarking this thread. I can only dream of having the sort of money to throw at an auction like this, but I'd like to see how it does. Good luck!

The bigger mistake is the line that led to Lorne's revelation. It would have been just another small mistake except for the fact it played such a large role in the narrative. "I thought Fred was the victim, but when all is said and done, she wins. She's in Heaven." Except she's not. It doesn't explain the Plot Twist Ending, and Brian has already offered an explanation of his own, but Lorne has been known to... convince himself of things that weren't entirely true in order to make himself feel better. Loved this issue. Buffy could learn a thing or two about how cool it is to have all the gang back together, doing what they do best; slugging it out, trading one-liners and just being the characters as we know and love them. None of this kerazy plot stuff. Very interested to see where they're going with Frillyria, too. Also, I realise it's an Important Plot Point to show that Angel has a reflection, but I am particularly pleased by the fact that his reflection was all... you know, shirtless. MB x

My comic book shop always brings it out 1 day after the official release date...weird and it's usually on a Thursday. Comics are always officially released a day later in the UK than they are in the US; it takes them longer to ship, and they don't usually arrive instore until late Wednesday afternoon. It's the most frustrating thing in the world to walk past Forbidden Planet on Wednesday afternoon and see they've put out new issues of Buffy and Angel in they're 'out tomorrow' stand, though. MB x

I enjoyed this issue. Lots to mull over. I've been very vocal about not wanting Lynch to ruin Lorne's exit in 'Not Fade Away', but he handled it very well. Still not sure about Groo, but I was never a big fan of his on the show...
Also, am I the only one who thinks Spider looks like Cordelia?

Gwen/Nina don't look like hookers and prostitutes. Nina is drawn extremely well and they already explained why she was acting weird. Gwen's boobs are bigger I will give you that one but that doesn't make the art bad. Whilst I think the Angel artwork has a lot going for it, I do think there's something in these accusations regarding Nina and Gwen; the same applies to Spike's harem of demons. Joss always said of Fray that he wanted her to look like a real woman, physiologically possible in that she wouldn't have a pin waist supporting ginormous breasts. I think Nina especially falls into this category of the ridiculous, and - whilst I don't think a likeness to the actress is necessary - it did take me a while to deduce who the character was from the initial sketches we saw; I can't say Nina was particularly high on that list... I do have a small gripe with some of the demons we've seen, too; I realise LA is supposed to be in some sort of Hell dimension but, as with Buffy, I don't think the demons we've seen so far really gel with the demons we saw on the show. I know the show was limited to men in rubber suits, but for me that was always part of these shows' charm; a bit of consistency wouldn't go amiss. MB x

God. The art in this comic is above and beyond anything I've seen in Buffy so far.

As things go, Angel not being a vampire feels like a cheap shot, and I'm not convinced that Lynch has the chops to pull it off.

Angel, Wesley, Gunn, Gwen, Nina, Connor, and that girl from the spike comic books. Is that all or did i miss somebody? It's ambiguous as to whether Gunn still bats for Angel's side; I'm starting to think he's the Big Bad of this arc. We still haven't seen Spike or Illyira, but solicitations for forthcoming issues suggest there are going to be some thorny subjects there as to peoples' loyalties. At this point, even Wesley could go either way. Good stuff. I like my Angel team fragmented. MB x

I do hope it does come out in November as announced and that we don't have to wait like 6-7 more months like we had to do with Buffy. IDW have always been good with getting their Angel comics out on time, as promised, and their pretty good at keeping the fans sweet. Oh! And Harmony! Let's see what she did with her recommendation. I always thought Harmony was what the Spotlight series was missing. It'll be interesting to see what they come out with; whilst I do think 'Not Fade Away' was the perfect last stand for the show, I'm not as invested in Angel as I am with Buffy, and I won't be as irked if they take turns which seem out of character (given that Cordelia's character progression was more of a wiggly line than any sort of arc, I've always felt that anything was possible with the Angel mythology). That said, I'll be in a major grump if they bring Lorne back, given his exit from the show almost made up for his complete lack of character throughout much of his run. MB x

Cordelia is one of my favourite characters. I have a gazillion things to be getting on with at the moment, but I'm so going to make time for this!
