I thought the issue was pretty weak. I enjoyed with Dark Willow parts. Am I to understand that her only being allowed to cast that one spell at that particular time means her magic is greatly weakend? Makes sense. ALSO - Her saying that she has earned the MADWOMAN card means that something crucial has happened to her. I think that means Kennedy dies. But that is my opinion. Yeah like Mikey said, the Xander and Dawn stuff was annoying and unnecessary. I really don't care if the tree people help them out or not. I want to get as much as I can out of this arc and it just isn't delivering in terms of "bringing the juice". Maybe it's the art. I hope it's not the writing. I guess I will find out in a month from now. Wolves at the Gate was so good. This isn't as good. I think it all depends on if you read fray and enjoyed it to how much you will enjoy this arc. I personally read fray and liked it as part of buffys world, so the fact that it's now becoming part of buffy's story is exciting to me!

i'm hoping somehow Xander + Dawn get thrown into the future with buffy and have the finale take place in central park! Dawn was a giant in tokyo, so a centaur in futuristic new york would make sense. lol

So a lot of good stuff going on in this issue.
I liked how the tree people were played for laughs. But there DEFINITELY wasn't enough Dawn + Xander in this issue. They better get some serious story in part 4.
I liked that we finally got to see more of Saga Vasuki. She is a cool character except I'm not sure how I feel about her being all naked with Willow. What the hell is that all about??? yea we've seen our characters in relationships with vampires, werewolves and ex-demons but this snake lady is just kind of weird.
I liked the interaction between Fray/Willow and Buffy/Erin.
Also, the cut to the panel of buffy and the crashed car and her line "Oh futuristic snap!" both made me smile!!
I think the arc is shaping up nicely. I'm super excited for the concluding issue! It comes out on my birthday!! October 1!! ;D
Time, only time!

Since this arc will be about vampires becoming the "new vogue", I'm hoping for a vampire's POV issue. This probably wont happen, but I remember reading someone's theory about Harmony becoming sort of a vampire "superstar". I think that would make for an amazingly funny and interesting issue. I'd love to see Harmony and I agree it would be very interesting and possibly hilarious!

When Willow resurrected Buffy, she seemed convinced that Buffy was trapped in some hell dimension like Angel, but do we really believe that she thought this whole heartedly?
I believe that Willow wondered where Buffy was and if she was okay, but to go through and bring her back to life seemed really kind of selfish to me. Like she just wanted to have Buffy back in her world.
Then, it's basically the same situation when Tara died. She couldn't bring tara back like buffy, so she just went off the deep end.
Love the character to death, but she has some serious issues with accepting loss.

LOVE the cover of Illyrias true form! Really don't know why I didn't ever expect to see it. I guess I just believed them when they said that Fred was gone forever.

i'm super excited for this issue but it's so far away!! and I agree with the person who said that the presence of cordelia and anya are sorely missed. Someone needs to take their place as the comic relief b/c Andrew just doesn't cut it.

That Buffy is a villain of the story has been obvious to me since the end of Long Way Home 4. Warren, Amy, vamps, Twilight... this is just a smokescreen. Especially Twilight. This guy is Mr.Trick of S8, cool, funny, wears cool clothes, does the Slayerfest thing, but he is a fake villain. Here is the picture of the real one. That's not a Good Guy. And I am very glad that Joss has guts to tell this story, it would never would have been allowed to fly on TV. Not for the main character. Heck, the mighty Angelus, Scourge of Europe, most evil vampire ever, was not allowed to kill anyone in Ats (which was supposed to be dark series). This is very logical character development for Buffy character. Very dangerous. Very close to the "character assassination". This is Buffy's final challenge and final lesson. I just hope Joss will be able redeem her later (the way how he did that at the end of season 7 did not worked for me). And if you need further proof that Buffy is a bad guy just look at the banner: she has exactly same look in her eyes as frickin' Dracula. Heck, she works with frickin Dracula! personally I think you are WAY off. Buffy- the bad guy?!? c'mon! Buffy looks that way in that picture because she's dealing with general Voll!! Working with Dracula was circumstantial. He helped Buffy retrieve the scythe and he was there because of Xander more than Buffy. Twilight is not funny or cool. I really don't think he is a fake villain. How does that even hold up? I'm sorry I'm picking everything you said apart, but it all kind of bothered me lol.

Ok, I realized this last night as I was going to bed and it hit me like a ton of bricks. In Issue 2 we see Xander & Dawn (with a shirt on) ride off into the woods. Then, on the cover of the very next issue we see Dawn-SHIRTLESS in the woods, looking very sexy: like post-orgasm sexy. Now, with Dawn being half horse and all I'm pretty sure there is no way they would or could get that intimate (cause that'd just be weird!) but there just HAS to be something romantic between the two in the works. I'm not really against it. I mean, Dawn had a crush on him from the very beginning (Real Me) and Xander liked it when she did (Crush), they do have a cute interaction and Dawn isn't so young anymore. I predict at least a kiss between the two and Buffy seeing Xander in a different, more desirable light once he's moved past her and gone for the other Summers girl. I'm not really sure though if Buffy see's Xander like that at all or if she ever will.

I haven't read it yet, but this worries me. Dark Willow, again? I feel like I'm having leftovers. I'm mostly a fan of seasons 1-3 and 5 of Buffy, so seeing more season 6 shenanigans is not really exciting for me. And i'm not into Fray. So I don't think this arch is going to give me as much joy as any of the previous ones. So far my favorite arch has been Wolves at the Gate, with my second favorite being No Future for You. But they can still surprise us. I'm hopeful. I'll say more after I've actually read the comic. I'm hoping that the theory someone laid out about "Dark Willow" being the hero here is correct. Seeing dark willow in season 8 doesn't feel recycled to me at all because I still feel like her story is in motion. Not like Adam or Glory or the Mayor whose stories had appropriate endings. Dark Willow just reverted to regular Willow in "Grave", but we all know she's still in there b/c she popped up a couple times in season seven. Whether she excites you or not is your taste I suppose. Personally I think she is entertaining: at times funny and at times bad ass. I'd like to see more of the bad ass so here's hoping for Time of you Life!

This is so crazy. I really have no idea where all this is going! Guess that makes it good though. I knew before I even picked it up that this issue wasn't going to blow my mind because it's the second of the arc and it is just getting into the story. Plus, dark willows return was a given. But it was very good IMO and the ending did leave me wanting the next one (okay EVERY isssue does that). All I can say is...I hope this doesn't mean the end for Willow. I want to know who twilight is NOW and I really hope it isn't Xander. I think I could handle Willow dying more than Xander being evil. And Giles (AKA Gates), dies @ starbucks?? Are we going to see this? so many possibilities!

I want Xander + Buffy together more than Xander + Dawn. If something does develop between Dawn + Xander though, I can see Buffy getting majorly wierded out or jealous and end up wanting Xander.

i def understand girl power and all but just for me, all these slayers running around, well im bored already. I just really really miss Buffy being "special" Buffy still is 'special'. She's the Queen of the Slayers! How do you not see how special that is?

Trust me, I know Joss isn't afraid to make big moves. But killing one of the core four scoobies is BIG. Killing Willow in comic form would piss alot of people off. In the end though, you have to realize that they can't live forever-well okay in the buffyverse maybe you can- but for arguments sake. The comics are canon and serve to FURTHER the characters stories & Willow's story is getting pretty heavy. Who knows, I could be totally off base, but Buffy's reflection in dark willows eye looks pretty scary and serious.

yeah, I was just posting about the big change after TOYL. I thought this was the right thread.
I agree that bringing spike back kind of cheapened his death in chosen, but I think his dynamic with angel in season five worked rather gracefully and was pretty entertaining. They were like brothers, but just so much more complicated.

Ok, I really thought it was Drusilla who was the mystery character in TOYL but it has to be dark willow. True, the cover IS a dead giveaway for a "mystery" character, but she just makes so much more sense than Dru. I don't know if joss has the guts to do it but I'm thinking Willow might die. After TOYL we see a flip in time again, going back to the earlier buffy years. Seems kind of like a reflection of the past good times. Then after that, we have a 5 issue arc with OZ. Seems like a lot of the upcoming issues have to do with Willow and the Scooby Gang. Plus it's been confirmed that a big change is on the way. There is one reason I wouldn't think this plot twist would work and be good (even though I love Willow). I would want Alyson Hannigans character to be alive if they ever make another Buffy movie. This is buffy the vampire slayer though not everyone stays dead!

I have to say issue 9 as well. The faith arc is still my favorite. 9 wrapped it all up nicely and faith + giles is relationship that makes so much sense to explore but wasn't really all that much in the show.

Please, Willow WAS GAY in high school. She just hadn't come to fully realize it until she met Tara. I mean, "Doppelgangland" anyone?! Willow: "I think I'm kind of gay"...Hm...then we have her as the quiet, shy outcast in the earlier seasons..only drawn to the boy that she's known her whole life and is kind of a goofy outcast himself. Then we have her form a relationship with OZ- a quiet, not incredibly masculine guy. In real life a lot of gay people date heterosexually in high school. I think Willow might've liked Buffy at some point because Buffy befriended her and helped her come out of her shell and issue 13 or so even proved that Willow has wondered what Buffy was like in bed. But I don't think that Willow or Buffy even would cross that line with their friendship- or I hope not at least.

I also liked when buffy and the scoobies worked in secret and it was just their tight knit group...but things change, and we're in season 8, not season 1. I find it intriguing that things are getting bigger and scarier and more epic. Why do any of you want the story to look exactly like it did in the earlier seasons?! Season 8 is expanding Buffy's story to make her truly an icon. I am loving it.
