You've got a point there. But I think this brings up another problem with the Buffy reboot idea. If you're trying to connect with the teenage girl audience, it may be tricky to use Buffy as a role model today. Twilight was mentioned, that has the largest fanbase of young women and Bella is almost an anti-Buffy. I'm not so sure the girl power movement that allowed Buffy to be big in the 90's is still as strong today. God, that's depressing... I miss the 90s for so, so many reasons.

If they remade a Buffy movie, you know that everyone would say 'yeah this new film, it's called Buffy or something, sounds just like Twilight' and it would just be a load of Twilight fans going on about how much of a rip-off it is.

Well, if they ever wanted to reboot it to just make it "darker" and "scarier" (wasn't that the Kuzuis plan anyway?), they'd probably drop the original title for something more ominous sounding... like "Slayer". Which is what FOX wanted to do for the TV show anyway. Which will then drive home the point to people that whoever's running the show just doesn't get it. "Slayer" may sound cooler (to some people), but it disregards the central character that made the TV show a cult phenomenon.
The way I see it, the franchise has already had one successful reboot, resulting in a great TV series, based on some of the basic premises of a hokey movie. I'm good with that.

I think what's going on at Dark Horse right now has the potential to set up the Buffy franchise for the future. It sounds like they are creating a Comic "Buffyverse" and even compared it to the early Marvel universe. This would allow for offshoots and stories that may later get turned into movies. I do imagine that any movie would not be in continuity, but rather a reboot, and I think that could be OK 10-15 years down the line.
You know, I could see an movie Exec Produced by Joss and written and directed by some up and comers reintroducing the Slayer mythos. SMG could either do a cameo as an older Buffy or Buffy's mom, depending on if they are using the "Buffy" character.

"It also pissed me off that anyone would waste money on a second version of Buffy that had nothing to do with Joss, when he had proven he's a real money-maker." - Skytteflickan88 I'm sorry, but I just don't see how people come to this conclusion. He has one, count them 1, truly successful franchise to his name. Poorly phrased of me. I mean that he has already been very successful with writing Buffy in specific, made it famous, praised, blabla, and that bringing someone else in could be mayor fail, money and writing wise. Come to think of it, if Spieldberg or Jackson did the Buffy movie, it might sell more than a Joss movie would have. Not saying it would be better, but more people might watch it. Superhero movies are easy to reboot because its generally the same plot just being revamped with new effects and new actors. Buffy isn't really comparable in my mind to Batman. Buffy didn't start off as a comic and Buffy never fell in line with the typical superhero format, it was a combination of drama, comedy, and also had a very distinctive language. A movie would fail, simply because you can't build a character up like Buffy in only a couple hours for a new audience and new story. Batman doesn't have this problem because when you watch a Batman movie, you already know the character, who the bad guys are, and the tone you can expect. Only thing that would work in my opinion would be a tv series format reboot. But if they try to do a comedy/drama it would be too similar. They would have to make it more serious and scary, which would need a lot of re-writing and appeal to a different audience. I think its possible, but with all the changes they would have to make to rework Buffy, it would barely resemble the original, so I don't see the point. Yeah but the reason Batman is like that is because he has been around for years. Become a true myth of today's world. I think I once heard that if you put all people, real and fictional, on a list of most popular and known, I believe Batman and few other comic book heroes were in the top 5. Why is that? Because others were allowed to take the character to new heights. Yes Bob Kane and Bill Finger created the character, but it took Dennis O'Neil, Adam West, Tim Burton, Frank Miller, Bruce Timm and countless others to make the character as big as it is today. If Buffy is not allowed to do that, it will become just another 90's teen show that will, not necessarily forgotten, but fall into obscurity in another ten years. I think its funny, though, the same people that want Buffy to be huge, are the same ones that scream and shout everytime the idea of people not from said 90's show being a part of it. You do have a point there. To make her more famous, maybe you'd have to let many people play with her (sounds like cheerleader in high school trying to be well liked actually). But I'm not all that crazy about her being famous. Just about her story being told well. The show evolved all the time, it didn't seem to just ahjve one message, and that's it. First it appealed the most to high school studens (I assume), then college students, then single parents, then anyone who has a shitty life and trying to make it through. It went through stages, and I actually think it could be great, if Buffy continues to grow with the audience. I'm a young woman now, and when I'm 40, I might want to see Buffy slaying vampires in her midlife crisis. I have no idea if that would sell, but I've seen Joss do wonders so I think it could be amazing (or it will turn out to be Ats S4: The Return of the mess). Besides, are we sure that ther main audience was or was suppose to appeal to teenagers and young women? I realize Joss used the girl power bit a lot, but was that his intention or result?

Could a Slayer possibly live to be 40? But maybe that's not the point ...
If we do see an older Buffy on screen (I hadn't really thought about this before), she'd better be different than the younger Buffy we saw, and I mean her character, not just her appearance.
Remember when they made the first Star Trek movie? And Kirk was the same swash-buckling horse's ass he always was, only with a bigger belly? And Uhura was still checking sub-space frequencies and ... I better stop.
I assume Joss wouldn't do anything like that.
Buffy changes so much from season 1 to 7, we can hardly recognize her as the same. She better keep changing and growing.
That said ... I want more Buffy!

Okay people!! 40 not old!! Older maybe but not old. For a slayer it is! After all, being 40 as a slayer means you've probably had to survive 25 straight years of vampires, demons and assorted other evil nasties trying to kill you almost every night. A recurring theme in the first few seasons of the show is that Buffy's life expectancy is short and there's a strong chance she'll die a brutal death at a very young age. Just by living past her 22nd birthday, she may have become one of the oldest slayers in history. Of course, Willow's spell made it possible for her to "retire" into more of a leadership role, so it is entirely possible she'd live a normal human lifespan -- maybe even longer, if her slayer powers make her less prone to illness, etc. (Or shorter, if it turns out there's some unknown side effect to her powers that causes her body to burn out more quickly than normal ... since there's never been a slayer who lived very long, she has no way of knowing how she'll age and whether it'll be any different from the normal human process.)

Not sure if this is the right thread for this, but I just finished a rewatch of S4 (of Buffy) a few days ago. I have noticed that every time I get to "The I in Team" episode, I find myself annoyed with Buffy's behavior...like, to the point of almost wanting to smack her. I dislike how she's all about Riley and completely blows off and ignores the others in this episode. Don't get me wrong, I like the Buffy/Riley relationship for the most part, and, of course, I LOVE Buffy, but I just hate the way she treats her friends this ep. I get that she's happy for once, and it's nice to see, but I feel like she was being a little insensitive to the others, most especially Willow. Willow was in desperate need of some alone time with her BFF, and instead Buffy brings Riley and a bunch of other commando guys to The Bronze. You can see that Willow is hurt by this, that she feels rejected and pushed aside, so she goes back to hang with Tara instead. Not to mention that Buffy is seen always rushing out the door whenever Willow tries to talk to her. I know how it can be with a spanking new boyfriend, the excitement of a new relationship, etc. I don't find myself annoyed with Buffy's behavior often, but there is something about her in this ep that I just find obnoxious and irritating. Does anyone else feel this way? Or am I just being a bitca? lol.

I disliked Buffy during S4 too. But I think it was a good addition to the plot. Especially with entering college and Willow's coming out, it seemed to make sense that it might create an awkwardness between the gang. I think its pretty true to life. Once you hit college, it can put a strain on friendships. I think its in "Primeval" where they all make up? That scene where Willow and Buffy hug it out and Xander is like "..We're all going to die aren't we?"...awesome.

Makes my heart go all warm and fuzzy. And the "typical Xander" reaction is just priceless. I actually like a lot S4 as a whole. I just find myself specifically annoyed with Buffy in this ep.

I actually enjoyed season 4 as well. I mean yes there were some moments that I didn't like, but it's like that with every season at least to me anyway. But season 4 is one of my favorite seasons, it's different because it is a transitioning season. They are going from high school to college, and Giles is transitioning from employed to unemployed. Xander has to get used to the fact that they aren't all going to be together all the time. And the season just had so many hilarious moments, some of my favorite funny episodes are from there. Like "Beer Bad" which a lot of people hate it but I love that episode, it's hilarious to see Parker get knocked out with a branch multiple times!

^^ Same here! I Love Beer Bad! I actually think S4 has some real moments of comedy gold. Not to mention great eps like Hush and Restless!

I think my opinions on season 4 is pretty unpopular/unusual.
I like it overall (actually think it's the third best season) but I don't enjoy watching Restless and Hush all that much and rarely even think about watching them. I see how they're brilliant, and while I consider Hush somewhere in the middle on my all-144-episodes-ranked-by-how-awesome-they-are list, Restless is close to the bottom.

I think it all just depends on the person, someone's favorite episode might be someone's least favorite but nothing wrong there, I can see how some people wouldn't enjoy certain episodes, and vice versa.

I really like episodes where they change the fabric of the universe in a way that alters the title sequence at the beginning. By this I mean Superstar and OMWF
